Chapter 77: 77

Failing to make any real difference in the twisted space of the spatial bracelet, Michelle huffed in annoyance and opened her eyes. Her forehead was soaked in sweat from concentration, and her spirit energy was nearly drained. That wouldn’t be so much of a problem, but she felt like she might have overused her soul energy again, but she didn’t want to sleep for over a month again, so she forced herself to stay awake and started cultivating.

Well... cultivating. Her level of spirit energy was already at the peak of reachability in the Land of Exile, but since she had drained her soul energy, she could cultivate for a short while to restore it. And she was hoping that could even help her recover some soul energy, so she wouldn’t need to sleep.

When Michelle started cultivating, the sun was nearing the horizon, but when she stopped and opened her eyes, the moon was high in the sky. Her beasts were nowhere to be seen by the fountain. They left because they didn’t want to accidentally disturb her cultivation.

Michelle stood up and went to her room. As always, she found Cold Flame in the shape of a small white bird sleeping on her pillow. She didn’t know why, but out of all her beasts, he was the only one who insisted on sleeping in her room. She thought he would stop doing it after maturing, but she was wrong. Maybe it had something to do with his Vermilion Bird bloodline, or it was just a habit of his, so she didn’t think anything about it.

After changing her clothes in the bathroom connected to her room, Michelle laid down on the bed, but she didn’t go to sleep. She was feeling better after cultivating, but she was still worried she would sleep for a long time, so she just stared at the ceiling. Also, after cultivating, she didn’t feel sleepy.

Since she couldn’t sleep, she decided to try reshaping and sorting the space in the bracelet again. She closed her eyes and sent a wisp of her consciousness into the bracelet. Before, she had coated the wisp in quite a big amount of both soul and spirit energy, and the result was very small after she pulled on the twist in space, so it made her think that maybe, since the bracelet was also connected to her, she didn’t need to use force but harmony to sort out the space.

So she coated the wisp in a tiny amount of soul and spirit energy and stuck it to a twist. Then, she gently pulled on the twist. To her pleasant surprise, though still very slowly, the twist started straightening much faster than when she used force. But the speed was still quite hopeless, so pulling on the twists probably wasn’t the best way. It was the best of what she had tried, but she knew there was an even better way, which she just hadn’t discovered yet.

Staring into the ceiling above her, a thought struck her. She sat up and started gathering her spirit energy around her and her soul energy in her hands as she closed her eyes. Her soul energy wasn’t in the shape of chains or anything else, because after finishing the training with the Archduke, she could use the soul energy as a translucent power similar to spirit energy. The biggest difference was that spirit energy was highly explosive, while soul energy was more like a gentle flow.

But even a gentle flow could be deadly for enemies if used by the right person. It could sometimes be even deadlier than spirit energy, and not many could use it. And since people could rarely use it, it was harder for them to defend against it.

Cold Flame woke up when he felt a huge amount of spirit and soul energy concentrated near him. His eyes snapped open and he looked up, only to see Michelle covered by a thick layer of spirit energy, with a ball of soul energy in the shape of a void swirling in her hands as she kept her eyes closed.

When Cold Flame saw it, he froze up. He didn’t dare move so he wouldn’t disturb Michelle. He was worried that if he disturbed her, the void would get out of her control and cause significant damage. And damage made by the void could hardly be repaired.

Meanwhile, Michelle’s mind was, using a wisp of her consciousness, in the bracelet, sinking into the twists in space. She had a theory that the space could be reshaped and sorted by harmony, so she wanted to try and blend her soul and spirit energy with it.

After her mind sank into one of the space twists, she pulled the soul and spirit energy from outside her body to her wisp of consciousness in the bracelet and got it into the twist. There, she tried to align them with the space, so they wouldn’t clash with each other. And to her surprise, the soul and spirit energy calmly spread around the space’s twists, blending with them.

Then, she tried to move the two energies, and along with them, the twists moved too. But it was quite a strain on her mind, and her spirit and soul energy.

As she straightened the soul and spirit energy in a few twists, the twists straightened too, but by then, she felt completely spent. It seemed that the faster the process was, the bigger toll it took on her.

Retracting her wisp of consciousness, Michelle opened her eyes, only to see Cold Flame staring at her. "Michelle, are you trying to get yourself killed?" he asked with a frown.

Hearing the question, Michelle lifted a brow: "What do you mean, Flamie? Why would I want to get myself killed?" She was clearly confused as she didn’t know what Cold Flame had seen while her wisp of consciousness was in the bracelet’s space twists.

Cold Flame’s frown deepened. "How could you ever think of conjuring up both soul and spirit energy in such an amount at the same time?! Don’t you know how dangerous that is?!" he screeched angrily.

When Cold Flame’s screech reached Michelle’s ears, she frowned. Those screeches, only he could make, were really making her eardrums suffer. It was torture, as her hearing was quite sensitive.

Knowing that Michelle’s ears hurt, Cold Flame stopped screeching and took a deep breath to calm down before speaking again, calmer than before: "Michelle, I don’t know if you noticed, but you conjured up a thick layer of spirit energy over your whole body and created a ball of your soul energy in the shape of a void in your hands. That’s both huge amounts, which, if they got out of control just a bit, could kill you within a split second."

Michelle looked at Cold Flame and smiled a bit. "I knew it, and did it on purpose," she stated lazily, like it was nothing to worry about.

Hearing the nonchalance in Michelle’s voice, Cold Flame got enraged and let out an enraged screech, forcing Michelle to cover her ears with her palms to block out the sound, but her eardrums still hurt.

Not liking the situation, Michelle formed small ice balls in her ears to block out the sound before flinging her hands out to Cold Flame and grabbing his beak shut. "Flamie, stop that... You’ll wake up the whole house..."

Cold Flame didn’t like having his beak grabbed, since he had the pride of a Vermilion Bird, but seeing the ice-buds in Michelle’s ears, he didn’t protest. He was angry that Michelle did something dangerous while he was asleep, but he also knew that she was a careful and smart person, so she wouldn’t really do it if she wasn’t confident in controlling the two energies. But that didn’t completely wipe away his rage. Just slightly.

Seeing the anger in Cold Flame’s blue eyes dimming and subsiding, Michelle let go of his beak. "Flamie, I know you worry about me, but I can take care of myself. I promise. I know that conjuring so much soul and spirit energy at once was dangerous, but I wanted to try something with the bracelet’s twisted space."

Sighing, Cold Flame returned to the pillow and curled up into a ball. "Don’t do it in front of me again!" he said as he closed his eyes.

When Cold Flame’s words fell, Michelle chuckled a bit. "Is my oh-so-great White Vermilion Bird pouting? I thought you’d already matured," she teased as she laid down next to him and petted him on his white wings with blue streaks.

Cold Flame didn’t say anything for a long while, and when he spoke up again, he changed the subject. "What were you even trying to do with so much soul and spirit energy at once?" he asked curiously. He didn’t know what was so tempting or important that Michelle risked the dangers of losing control over the energies and used them at once in a huge amount.

Michelle saw the curiosity in Cold Flame’s half-closed blue eyes and smiled. "I found a way to straighten the twists in the bracelet’s space," she said as she closed her purple eyes, her long silver hair falling over her face as she put her head down on the bed.
