Chapter 62: 62

After talking with the Archduke, Michelle was relieved to hear that as long as he was still in the Land of Exile, the Soul Seeking Pendants wouldn’t be able to harm him as the power restriction between realms suppressed his power just below the Spirit rank, so she went to her room to rest, but she was wondering where Cold Flame went. He didn’t tell her where he was going when he was leaving.

At first, she didn’t worry too much, but when Cold Flame didn’t return for a few days, she got a bit concerned. Even Nyxaroth, Snow and Mare had returned from the middle realm, but Cold Flame was still nowhere to be seen.

Michelle wanted to use the contract to pull him back to her, but he sent her a message that he was fine and that she shouldn’t worry about him, so she didn’t pull him back, but she was still worried.

What Michelle didn’t know was that Cold Flame was going through David’s library in the auction house, looking for a way to control the pitch-black soul energy, which was, as Alexander Terce described, like void. And void was unpredictable and dangerous, so Cold Flame wasn’t willing to leave it up to fate.

Alexander was lazily sitting in the window, looking at Cold Flame. "How many times do I have to tell you to stop? She will naturally learn to control the void. Just give her time." He spoke carelessly, clearly relaxed. Just the few times he had seen Michelle was enough for him to know that her soul energy wouldn’t be able to harm her. "Not to mention, you won’t be able to find anything here. The library here only has books about things once could get to know in the lower realm, and in the lower realm, people don’t even know about the existence of soul energy."

Hearing that, Cold Flame stopped and turned to look at Alexander. "And you couldn’t have said that from the start?" he asked with a frown.

But Alexander just shrugged. "I just remembered," he didn’t even bother to hide that he was lying.

Rage raised within Cold Flame, but he knew he stood no chance against Alexander, so he just turned into a small bird and flew away. After a while, he reached the Archduchy and flew into Michelle’s room through the window. When he saw that Michelle wasn’t there, he flew out and went towards the training grounds, and indeed found her there. She was sparring with Nyxaroth, at the moment in his human form, while Snow and Mare sparred together.

As Cold Flame landed nearby, Michelle noticed him, and instead of countering Nyxaroth’s next attack like she was planning, she dodged. Nyxaroth understood that something happened and stopped attacking. He turned around only to see Cold Flame transforming from a small blue bird into a young man with blue eyes, with pupils in the shape of flames, and long blue hair with streaks of white on them. "Cold Flame has finally matured?" Nyxaroth raised a brow as his black eyes raked over Cold Flame.

"Flamie!" Michelle smiled in relief when she saw Cold Flame.

Seeing Michelle’s smile, Cold Flame rolled his eyes at her: "Did you think something could happen to me? I told you I was safe!"

"So I didn’t look for you!" Michelle walked over. "But I still didn’t know where you were? Where were you even? What was so urgent that you left for days without even telling me where you went or when you would return?"

But Cold Flame didn’t answer. Instead, he turned his attention to Nyxaroth, thinking an ancient creature like Wailing Mist could know something about soul energy. "Nyxaroth, what if someone has pitch-black soul energy with consistency that of void?"

Hearing that, Nyxaroth raised a brow. "Who has soul energy like that?" He glanced at Michelle in question.

Cold Flame nodded. "It’s dangerous, isn’t it?" he asked.

For a while, Nyxaroth remained silent, thinking with a frown, before he spoke up: "No! For anyone else, it would be a death sentence, but Michelle should be safe. I doubt something could happen before she learns to control the void that would throw her emotions into such disarray that she wouldn’t be able to control them."

Listening to the two, Michelle was confused, and Mare and Snow who overheard it stopped sparring and started listening closely, but they didn’t understand a word the two said. "Michelle, what’s soul energy?" Snow quickly asked. "Are you in danger?"

Michelle frowned a bit. "I don’t know..." she shook her head a bit, but as she had no clue what Cold Flame and Nyxaroth were talking about, she couldn’t be sure.

Having noticed Michelle’s confusion, Cold Flame decided to explain what was going on. "Michelle, do you remember when Alexander Terce taught you to use Spirit Mark?"

"Yes... What about it?" Michelle didn’t understand what was wrong with the Spirit Mark. So far, she understood that to form it, she needed to use her soul energy, but she didn’t even really know what soul energy was since Alexander didn’t bother to explain it to her when he taught her to use it. So except when using the Spirit Mark, she never used her soul energy, as she didn’t know what consequences it could bring.

Cold Flame thought about how to put it before explaining: "I went to ask him about your soul energy, because soul energy can vary in color, from nearly white gray, to nearly black gray, and he told me that your soul energy wasn’t gray, but pitch black, and that it looked like void itself, which can be quite dangerous."

"Wait!" Michelle interrupted him. "First, can you tell me what that soul energy even is? Is it something like spirit energy?" she asked with a raised brow.

Being terrible at explaining, Cold Flame left that to Nyxaroth: "Michelle, every soul has its own density. And the density decides the color of one’s soul energy. The most dense souls are nearly black, and the souls which are about to scatter are nearly white. The density of one’s soul also decides their potential in cultivation and other things. So, basically, having a dense soul is good, but the denser the soul, the more dangers it brings. Because the denser it is, the more it looks like void and carries its traits. And void is unpredictable and dangerous, so if one’s soul is so dense, that the soul energy is highly void-like, if the person loses control of their emotions, the void could swallow their soul and basally kill them."

Michelle nodded a bit. "But you still didn’t explain to me what soul energy is and how I can use it," she said after thinking about it. She still didn’t know if it was safe for her to use the soul energy, because if it was safe, she already had a few ideas in mind as to how she could put it to use.

That made Nyxaroth freeze for a moment. Soul energy was something powerful cultivators used basically all the time, but no one understood it. Everyone just instinctively used it, without thinking about what it is.

Seeing Nyxaroth’s expression, Michelle understood that he realized something and that he probably didn’t properly know what soul energy was, so she sighed. "So, my soul energy is dangerous because it’s completely black, and it’s basically void?" she asked Cold Flame, leaving Nyxaroth to think.

Cold Flame nodded and then shook his head. "Well... yes and no. If anyone other than you had pitch-black soul energy, the first time their emotions got out of control they would die, but as you have extreme control over your emotions, you don’t have the risk of losing yourself in your emotions. Also, as you have Spirit Soul Blood, your eye color changes in accordance to your emotions, so if your eyes start turning so dark red, that it seems black, someone would notice and remind you. And with how you are, even in that state, you would be able to suppress your emotions forcefully."

"So I’m safe as long as I can control my emotions?" Michelle asked.

"Yes!" Cold Flame nodded. "You might be the only person we know about who ever had pitch-black soul energy, but you aren’t the first person who had a connection to, or had inside his body void. And the few people like that naturally learned to control the void, so it would never endanger them. That should be the case with you too."

"I see..." Michelle was a bit relieved to hear that. "So I can use my soul energy freely without any danger as long as my emotions are stable," she hummed a bit as a small smile crept to her lips. Her mind started reeling with thoughts about how to use her soul energy. Since it was void, she could use it for many things.

But before that, she wanted to take care of the Sloan family and find their backer from the lower realm. It was impossible for them to obtain the Soul Seeking Pendants in the Land of Exile since they were only available in the lower realm.
