Chapter 187: 187

With her hand on the side of the fountain, Michelle was a bit disappointed that nothing happened. She had come to the plaza to see the source of the pressure. She could feel it beneath the fountain. But it didn’t want to show itself.

Being the stubborn head she was, Michelle entered the fountain, not caring about the water splashing all around her, and came to the place where water was gushing out. She placed her hand over it and started freezing the water.

Quickly, the ice started clogging the fountain.

Watching it from the side, Nyxaroth sighed, knowing what Michelle was planning. And within the shadows of the city, Noctis had a good guess too.

Unlike Nyxaroth, he couldn’t remain calm. A flash of horror crossed his face.

The little girl was trying to provoke the monster even he didn’t really dare to face head-on. He wanted to bolt out to stop her, but it was already too late.

The water coursing through the fountain was fast and strong, so when Michelle blocked its path, it didn’t take long for cracks to appear around the ice she created. And a moment later, the pipe exploded, sending Michelle flying back.

But she didn’t care, even as she disgracefully landed on her butt and rolled back a few turns.

Water was spraying everywhere in the plaza, and the peace of the city was broken.

Still, Michelle wasn’t satisfied. In the pressure all around, she felt a familiar aura, telling her she definitely had to have met the monster under the fountain before. And if not directly the monster, she must have met something related to the monster.

Part of her instincts, along with her cells, were screaming at her to run far from the city, but the rest of her instincts were telling her to provoke the monster until it showed itself. And she decided to follow that part.

The next scene was quite comical. Michelle ran around the fountain, using her ice element to clog the pipes and make them burst in numerous places. Water started flooding the plaza, but she didn’t stop. Quite the opposite. She used it to clog up more pipes.

Finally, Noctis couldn’t bear to watch it and rushed out of the shadows. He grabbed Michelle by her wrists and locked her hands behind her back.

"My Lady, please stop! It’s dangerous!"

Michelle glanced at him and her eyes narrowed. She was annoyed by the constant pressure and by the fact that the monster stayed hidden from her, so her eyes were gleaming red, making her look like a bloodthirsty demon.

Even Noctis, who had seen a fair share of drastic things, felt a shiver run down his spine when that pair of eyes locked on him.

With her gaze locked on Noctis, Michelle didn’t say a word. Just a cold, manic smile spread across her lips. The next moment, Noctis let go of her and stepped back.

"Still, don’t do it again!" He was dead set on preventing Michelle from making more pipes burst.

Retracting her smile, Michelle turned her head back to the fountain. She couldn’t really speak because of the pressure all around her, but she didn’t need to even open her mouth for Noctis to understand what she wanted. If he got the monster to appear, she would stop causing a ruckus.

"My Lady, no! That’s dangerous!" he shook his head.

A frown formed between Michelle’s brows. If she wasn’t disguised as a boy, Michael Grayson, the frown would have been distinct upon her beautiful face, but in her disguise, it was quite easy to overlook.

Still, it made Noctis shudder. Michelle’s expression was strangely similar to the expressions Alexander used to show when he was her age. But it carried more danger.

The little girl in front of the shadow guard could surely once rival his master. And not only that, she would surpass him. Maybe not in power, but definitely in madness.

Noctis’s master, Alexander, was a crazy individual since he was born, but the craziness he showed when he was Michelle’s age was nothing compared to how he was at the moment.

But Michelle could already match Alexander in craziness.

No one could guess what she would be like a few years later. But one thing was easy to foretell. Her mere existence would bring about disasters.

Michelle couldn’t see into Noctis’s head, but she didn’t really care about his thoughts or concerns. She just instinctively wanted to see the monster. Her instincts were telling her that though the monster was extremely dangerous, it wouldn’t harm her.

So she had to see it.

Since it didn’t seem like Noctis was planning, or even knew how to make the monster come out from under the fountain, Michelle returned to clogging the pipes.

And here and there, she felt some flickers in the intensity of the pressure. The monster was reacting.

A while later, the pressure suddenly doubled, making Michelle fall over. But she was quick enough to put her hands beneath her and didn’t fall on her face.

Then, she looked up when she heard rumbling coming from under the fountain.

The next moment, Michelle was thrown away from the fountain with a block of concrete beneath her.

The monster was coming out.

Up above, Nyxaroth just raised a brow, recognizing the monster. Noctis, on the other hand, had a completely different reaction. He instantly rushed to Michelle, slung her over his shoulder and started rushing away.

"Please forgive me, My Lady! But I can’t let you play with death!"

Frowning a bit, Michelle turned her head back to stare where the fountain once stood. Her eyes widened in shock when she saw the monster that stood there. A huge black cat with a black cat upon its forehead.

"Kitty?!" She instantly recognized it.

The monster was the same little black cat she had been with just moments ago.

"Put me down!" she shouted in anger as she hit Noctis repeatedly in the back of his head.

But Noctis didn’t react, just continued outside the city.

Michelle felt her rage intensify like never before. She was probably angrier only when she found out that the Hilberg family poisoned her mother and caused her death.

"Let go of me!" Her voice carried coldness which made Noctis freeze, standing upon the roof of a house.

When he glanced back at Michelle, a pair of raging eyes was staring at him. The usual purple was nowhere to be seen. Even the red was scarce. The red turned so dark it was nearly black. Just the outer corner of the irises remained red. Everything else was bordering black.

Noctis had the urge to put Michelle back down and retreat, but the presence of the monster in the center of the city made him reconsider.

"My Lady, I can’t..." his voice was much meeker than before.

It felt like he was standing between a wall and a hard place. On one hand, he was ordered by his merciless master to protect the little girl. On the other hand, she was telling him to let go. If he didn’t, how could he know she wouldn’t complain to Alexander later?

The punishment then would be dire. And her eyes were horrifying even though she was just a weakling compared to him.

What Noctis didn’t know was that Michelle would never go complain to Alexander. But if she wanted to, she could make Noctis suffer with her own hands. For example, while he was carrying her, she had many opportunities to poison him.

But she didn’t. She still upheld some courtesy as he was tasked with protecting her.

"Put me down..." Michelle’s voice was cold and dragged, sounding like the hissing of a snake.

"I’m going back..."

Noctis wanted to say something, to retort, but he suddenly felt danger coming from behind his head. Before he could even turn around, something pricked him on the back of his neck.

Nearly instantly, his body went limp and he couldn’t feel anything below his neck. He had underestimated the young girl. She was able to paralyze him without much effort.

With his limp hand still over Michelle, Noctis fell to the side and rolled along the roof.

Lazily, Michelle got herself free and grabbed him before he could fall off.

"If I leave the needle where it is for a few hours, you’ll be paralyzed forever..." she said calmly, her voice smooth and sweet. A smile was adorning her beautiful lips.

"So will you let me go see the monster?" she asked with a tilt of her head. If her eyes weren’t blackish red, she would have looked innocent and harmless.

Before Noctis could even react, he felt pain in his neck as Michelle pulled out the needle. Very quickly, he could feel his body again and slowly sat up. His body still wasn’t perfectly listening to him. Compared to how quickly he got paralyzed, recovering took much longer.

Michelle didn’t even give Noctis a chance to get back to his feet and used her Shadow Spirit Steps to get to the fountain again. She imbued them with her spirit energy, so she was quicker than usual.

Noctis wanted to follow her, but when he tried to rashly stand up, he just fell over, nearly dropping off the roof. He wouldn’t have died from the fall, but he still didn’t want to experience it. So he remained sitting and started slowly moving his limbs, hoping to recover quicker.
