Chapter 176: 176

Sitting on a solidified black cloud, Ivona was enjoying herself quite a bit as the wind blew past her.

In the meantime, Michelle just lazily lay on her back, watching the sky above her. Nyxaroth was quite fast in the shape of a cloud, so soon, the thing seeming to be a thick storm cloud stopped above a city.

Michelle bent over the edge of the cloud and looked down at the city. She had never seen one like that. It was a blend of an old city from ancient times and a modern city with the best technologies.

It was very easy to discern where the rich and where the poor lived. There were two areas with tall buildings and big courtyards, and between them was a big plaza with a single tall building in the middle. On the periphery of the city were small houses and huts.

When Nyxaroth stopped in his tracks, Ivona came to Michelle and bent over the edge too.

"What a strange city..." she muttered.

Then, she started her analysis:

"It probably has two powerful families standing against each other, and the only reason why peace can stay in the city is the house in the middle. That should be the neutral zone where the city lord lives. He has to be quite the character."

Michelle couldn’t help but nod.

"He probably has the highest cultivation level in the city, so they don’t dare go against him. But he is either heartless or incompetent, because the difference between the two families and the rest of the city is just huge. It looks nearly like slums."

"Or it could be a camouflage of the two families." Ivona could think of some nice conspiracy theories.

That made Michelle frown.

"If two families with clear enmity used the same camouflage, it could only mean their enmity was only superficial and in reality, they belonged to the same higher faction."

"Then, would the city lord be the leader?" Ivona’s trail of thought was similar to Michelle’s. "Probably not, right?"

"He would either be oblivious to it all, showing his foolishness, or he would be an executive, sent by the higher faction to keep the two families in check," Michelle smiled a bit. "Shall we go see what it’s like down there?" she asked, glancing at Ivona.

"Naturally!" Ivona nodded.

"But how do we get down without attracting attention? We can’t just descend from a cloud."

Michelle didn’t have to think about it to get an answer.

"Nyx, fly a bit further from the city."

So Nyxaroth moved again. When the city was nearly out of their sight, Nyxaroth came down and dissolved into ordinary mist, so Michelle and Ivona landed on the ground. Then, he returned into Michelle’s body.

"Are we going to walk the city from here?" Ivona asked with a lifted brow. She didn’t mind taking a walk.

"We can, but why be so hard on ourselves?" Michelle smiled a bit as she took out her shifting weapon from her spirit ring. In the shape of a dagger, she used it to make a small cut on her finger.

Very soon, a pair of leopards could be seen rushing at Michelle and Ivona. Leopards were the fastest beasts, so it was natural they would appear first after smelling Michelle’s Spirit Soul Blood.

Because the cut was small and thin, the smell was very subtle, so it didn’t cause such a commotion, but Ivona was still shocked to see the two leopards. They were much bigger than leopards in the Land of Exile.

Completely ignoring Ivona, they rushed at Michelle, both focused on her bleeding hand.

So Michelle lifted the knife up again and made a similar cut on her other hand. When the leopards reached her, she lifted her hands in front of her, letting them lick the blood as much as they liked.

Compared to the mindless beasts from the Land of Exile, the leopards were quite clear-headed, so they didn’t try to devour Michelle. They didn’t even attack her. They just lapped up the blood dripping from her hands, not letting a drop spill.

That even prevented the sweet scent from spreading out any more, so no more beasts or monsters came.

After getting their fill, the two leopards finally lifted their gazes at Michelle.

Beasts were instinctively averse to humans, so when they realized Michelle was a human, they wanted to leave quickly. But the sweet taste of blood was still fresh in their mouths even though the two small cuts had already closed because of Michelle’s superior healing abilities.

From the side, Ivona watched in shock as the huge leopards looked quite tame in front of Michelle. She was able to guess why, but it was still hard to comprehend and even harder to accept.

For quite a while, the two leopards remained motionless, each having one of Michelle’s hands in their mouths. After staring at Michelle for long enough, they glanced at each other and swiftly jumped away.

Two deafening roars blended into one, and some spit landed on Michelle’s face as she kept her gaze locked on the two big kitties. She looked far from normal. Her gaze was twisted.

The roars of the leopards were clearly a warning, telling Michelle not to follow them or show them the sweet scent again.

But Michelle didn’t get them in front of her just so she could let them leave.

As the two leopards turned to leave, Michelle used her Shadow Spirit Steps to get in front of them. The memory of Michelle’s blood was making them hesitant to leave, so she was able to use that opening to block their path.

Seeing that, Ivona felt her blood run cold. She knew that Michelle was both meticulous and courageous, but at the moment, it seemed more like she was just rash. But to her surprise, the two leopards didn’t attack Michelle. They just tried to bypass her.

Still, the memory of the sweet taste was keeping them from leaving.

Seizing that, Michelle finally spoke. The leopards seemed intelligent enough to understand human speech.

"If you carry me and my friend to the city, I’ll let you drink more blood," she said with a tilt of her head, a smile on her face.

Maybe it was because she had never encountered a leopard since waking up as Michelle Grace, or maybe because she had never seen one so big, Michelle’s smile was somehow crooked and her gaze twisted. She liked the two beasts and wanted to find out more about them.

The two leopards were wary of Michelle, but the temptation of the blood was too big. So they both lay down on the ground, showing they agreed.

That made Michelle smile, and she quickly climbed onto one’s back.

Not wishing to be left behind, Ivona got onto the other leopard.

"I’ll tell you where to stop!" Michelle had to shout through the wind so the leopards and Ivona could hear her as the two huge cats got up and started sprinting towards the city in the distance.

The journey was just a few minutes before Michelle shouted for the leopards to stop. They were just in a place where the people from the city walls couldn’t see them because the leopards’ spotted bodies blended well into the surrounding grass—some tall, some short, some replaced by small trees or bushes.

The environment reminded Michelle of savannas from Earth, but there were quite a few differences. But with how quickly the leopards were moving, Michelle didn’t have the time to think about them.

When the leopards stopped, Ivona instantly got off, landing on the ground. She held deep respect toward such beasts, so she didn’t dare stay long on their backs, so as not to annoy them. She didn’t want the leopards’ wrath to be directed at her.

But Michelle was quite the opposite. She slowly got off and summoned her shifting weapon again. She then brought it to her left arm and made a deep cut. Next, she switched the hand she held the knife with and made a similar cut on her right arm. Her dominant hand was the right one, but making a single cut with her left hand wasn’t hard—especially with a knife so sharp.

The moment the second cut was made, the two leopards plastered their jaws over Michelle’s arms, sucking up blood while also preventing the sweet scent from coming out.

The suction power of the leopards’ mouths was quite strong, so they prevented the two cuts from healing. So the leopards could drink until they could no longer drink. Then, Michelle summoned Nyxaroth, and he shaped himself into a solid, metal-like circle around her torso and arms, preventing any further bleeding and scent leakage.

A few moments later, the cuts were healed, only leaving behind temporary scars which would disappear within the next few days.

Having got their fill, the two leopards just turned and sprinted away, returning to their habitat.

When the leopards were gone, Ivona rushed to Michelle, grabbed her by her shoulders, and shook her violently while shouting:

"How could you do something so reckless?!" She was clearly flustered.

But Michelle remained composed, her smile ever-present.

"I had it all thought out..." her voice was lazily dragging as she spoke.
