The Evil Lord's Wife Has Spirit Blood -
Chapter 171
Chapter 171: 171
Groaning a bit, Michelle let go of the Soul Seeking Pendant, and it fell to the ground. She felt her soul energy pulsing through her body chaotically, and her head was throbbing.
Because her consciousness was forcefully thrown out of the pendant, it got temporarily damaged, making concentration a bit harder for her. But it still wasn’t that bad.
Michelle bent down to pick up the pendant, but she felt her soul energy move within her body, forming a sign. "Stop!"
Frowning a bit, Michelle remembered the soul residing within her soul space. "Serith? What’s wrong?" she asked, as she straightened her back, retracting her hand from the pendant.
"Don’t touch it for a while," Serith signed.
Reading that, Michelle frowned a bit. "Serith, do you know something about Soul Seeking Pendants?" she asked.
"Yes..."
After that, Michelle read Serith’s explanation.
Just as she had thought, whether the souls in the pendants could be freed depended on the smoothness of inserting soul energy into it. And that depended on the inside of the pendants. Each pendant had some space for storing, or rather trapping, the souls.
Even if the souls were trapped there, if someone inserted their soul energy into it, they wouldn’t be able to feel the souls. But with great effort, they could spot the first part of space that came to exist when the pendants were created.
And that was the loophole that could be used to free the trapped souls. It had a simple principle: to force the pendant to no longer resist soul energy entering. That was done through that one spot. Serith called it the heart spot.
The heart spot was what decided everything about the pendant, and the bigger it was, the stronger the defenses of the pendant grew. So to make the insertion of soul energy into the pendant smooth, one had to somehow shrink the heart spot.
That was something Michelle had already partly achieved. The heart spot was vulnerable to soul energy, especially to the darker shades of gray. So Michelle’s black soul energy was able to completely dominate it.
But overkill wasn’t always good. It could be highly counterproductive.
So, when Michelle crashed a vortex of her soul energy into the heart spot, her consciousness got thrown out, because the vulnerability to soul energy made the heart spot nearly fall into itself, which caused a shockwave to rush out.
If Michelle wanted to use a method like that, she had to control her soul energy to only gently nip at the heart spot. Or she could end up with some permanent damage to her consciousness, which was very disliked.
After reading everything that Serith had to say, Michelle had just one last question. "Why did you tell me not to touch the pendant?"
"Because when the heart spot kicked your consciousness out, it temporarily created a barrier of a kind around the whole pendant, so if you touched it, it would have greatly damaged your soul," Serith explained.
"Can you touch it now?"
"It should be fine already."
That made Michelle smile a bit as she bent down again and took the pendant into her hand. She didn’t feel anything strange.
So she once again closed her eyes and inserted her soul energy into the pendant, to find the heart spot and check the state it was in. To her surprise, the resistance she felt while inserting her soul energy was much smaller than before. There was still some, but very little.
After a while, Michelle found the heart spot again and let her soul energy flow around it, to sense it. Compared to before, it was small, but it could still be shrunk.
Slowly and gently, Michelle started moving the soul energy towards the heart spot, letting it wash over it like a gentle stream.
For a while, she just kept the soul energy like that, until she felt the heart spot start shrinking slowly.
When the shrinking stopped, she smiled and retracted her soul energy. Finally, she examined the pendant again, and a smile spread across her lips. The dump marks ("~~~") were replaced by the sharp ones ("/\/\/\").
The pendant had transformed into the same one as the ones Michelle had broken already. She had achieved exactly what she wanted, making her smile in satisfaction. The smile was small and very subtle, but if someone who knew Michelle saw it, they would be able to tell that she was quite happy.
One by one, Michelle transformed the other five pendants. Then, she once again went to tell the old tavern lady that she was going to break the pendants and went into the basement.
There, she started breaking them.
She always broke one pendant, convinced the cultivators that she meant no harm, broke another pendant, waiting for the first bunch to leave in small groups before waiting for the second group to wake up.
And the process repeated until she broke the last pendant and made the people leave.
When the basement was once again empty, Michelle went back to the ground floor, highly satisfied that her long-time goal was finally achieved. She could return to Kieran and the rest to continue their journey. And she could also resume her cultivation and break into the Spirit rank.
Though she still couldn’t use her spirit energy as that would give out her Spirit Soul Blood.
With a lazy smile, Michelle bid her farewell to the old tavern lady and walked out, prepared to go back to the jungle. To meet her friends.
But the moment she stepped out of the tower tavern, she had an ominous hunch.
Before she could think further about it, she was forced into acting. Sensing a nearly unnoticeable presence behind her, she quickly squatted down and dodged the hit sent towards her neck. Someone was trying to knock her out.
While in the squat, she turned around, catching a glimpse of the person. A complete stranger, dressed in a brown cloak covering him from head to toe.
Michelle wanted to strike back, but she felt a similar presence behind her again.
Quickly, she blocked the attack and summoned Cold Flame at the same time. He took on the form of a huge bird and grabbed Michelle by her shoulders with his claws, flying high up into the air. "Flamie, the city lord’s manor!" Michelle ordered as she frowned a bit. It seemed she was up against the information guild the city lord spoke about.
Cold Flame flapped his wings twice and after a while, put Michelle down on a big rooftop.
In an instant, Michelle felt her nose go numb from the thick stench of blood hanging in the air.
Michelle didn’t have to guess what happened. The information guild must have killed the city lord because he knew too much. Curiosity killed the cat.
With a frown, Michelle jumped off the roof, landing in the courtyard. She didn’t even bother to conceal herself. If the information guild was waiting for her, they would have already seen her coming when Cold Flame flew her over. And if they weren’t, it was pointless to hide her presence.
No one stopped Michelle as she barged into the manor, only corpses of guards blocking her way. She went through every room, until she found the room with the city lord’s corpse. He had a huge stab wound on the back of his neck, one which damaged his cervical spine. A simple but efficient way to kill someone.
Michelle walked around the room, seeing that it was just an ordinary living room. When she found nothing important, she glanced at the opened window and jumped out of it.
It was way too obvious that the information guild wanted her to jump through there. Most probably, their elite forces were already waiting for her there.
The window was on the third floor, but Michelle was fine when she landed as she protected her legs with her soul energy. And once she landed, just as she had guessed, a group cloaked in brown surrounded her.
"Oh, hello!" Michelle smiled coldly, her purple eyes flashing with something blood red. Finally, for the first time in a while, something exciting happened.
The cloaked figures were surprised by Michelle’s demeanor, but they didn’t let it affect them. They had a mission to take care of.
A moment later, Michelle was painfully pinned down, her face pressed into the ground. Her bruises were already mostly healed, but it still hurt.
But Michelle didn’t complain one bit. Quite the opposite. The purple of her eyes completely disappeared, replaced by blood-red, making her look like a demon.
"Young Lady, you will be coming with us! Someone wants to see you!" the person standing at the back of the group spoke. Judging by the voice, it was a woman.
"And who is it that wishes to see me?" Michelle moved her gaze to look at the cloaked woman, her eyes narrowing into smiling crescents.
They would usually look beautiful, but with the bruises all over Michelle’s face and her irises being red, it was unnatural, making the cloaked woman feel instinctively repulsed.
Such a sight would rub anyone the wrong way.
"You will see when we get there!" the woman said with a nod at the person who was keeping Michelle pinned down.
In the next moment, Michelle received a hit to the back of her neck, forcing foreign spirit energy into her brain, flooding her consciousness like a tsunami. She couldn’t feel anything else.
