Chapter 132: 132

Alexander stared at Michelle’s forearm and his eyes flashed with a bit of surprise before it got replaced by the light of amusement. "As far as I know, that’s a skill only those in the upper and heavenly realm know. How did you attain it?" he asked as he leaned against the wall.

Hearing that, Michelle arched a brow. Pushing herself over the limit to gain perfect control over her skeletal muscle was something she had accidentally discovered in her past life when she nearly died during her training to be an assassin.

The training was inhumanly hard and harsh, causing deaths of many, leaving only the strongest alive.

At first, Michelle was one of the mediocre candidates and was expected to die during the training, but instead, she was able to persevere through everything until her muscles started giving out. Still, she wasn’t allowed to stop, so she had to push through even through the pain.

Whenever that happened to someone, their tendons would break, rendering them motionless, and then they would die at the hands of the other assassins-in-training, but Michelle’s tendons didn’t break. It was because of the way she moved.

From the start, the reason why she was mediocre was because her strange way of moving was slowing her down, but this strange way of moving made it so that even under extreme tension and strain, her muscles and tendons didn’t get damaged. She was able to push through the training session.

But after it ended, she collapsed and was unable to move her limbs. She was able to move each of her muscles, making them contract and relax, but she was unable to move them all together as a system.

The trainers of the organization noticed the state she was in but they just brought her out of the training room so she wouldn’t get in the way of further training. If someone had succeeded the training but collapsed after, they were given two hours to get up. If they failed, they were killed.

Michelle knew that, so she kept trying to move her limbs. And after some time, she had no clue how long, she succeeded and slowly stood up, but her control of her body was terrible. With every single step she took, she had to push her concentration to the peak, so that day, just getting to the bed assigned to her was a torture. And she didn’t have a clue whether she would be able to get up the next day. That was dreadful. If she was unable to get up on time, she would be killed.

So, instead of sleeping, she kept secretly moving her hands and legs, until the morning. Then she got up, and was already able to move much better. But the next few days were torture for her. She was barely able to survive the training sessions and day by day she was more and more mentally spent.

Fortunately, after some time, her condition started improving and even the trainers noticed it. Soon she was able to consciously move every single one of her skeletal muscles, letting her move her body to more extreme positions than the other assassins-in-training.

In the next few weeks, Michelle turned from the mediocre candidate into one of the best and when the assassination training was concluded, she was far above the second best. She was able to rival the trainers who brought up her and the others her age since they were brought to the organization to become assassins.

After waking up in her new body, Michelle lost the ability to consciously move every single of her muscles, because the body had some muscle memories and she was not used to it, but she didn’t lose her memories from her past life, so after pushing herself over her limit and attaining the ability again, she didn’t need much time to get used to it again.

"It’s an ability I got in my past life," she answered Alexander’s question without giving him much information. He had enough tact not to ask her anything further. Since she only said so much, she most probably wouldn’t tell him more no matter how much he persuaded her.

"And it remained in your body even after you woke up here or did you have to do something to gain it again?" he still decided to ask that one thing since that wasn’t really related to her past life.

"I just got it back two days ago..." Michelle said with a lazy shrug. "Now, will you leave me alone?" she asked, a small frown on her face.

Seeing her frown, Alexander’s smile widened a bit as he walked over to her, to the window by which she was standing. "The frown doesn’t suit you..." he said with a playful glint in his eyes as he pressed his index finger between Michelle’s eyes and forced her brows back into relaxed position. Then, he jumped over the window frame and disappeared.

But Michelle could still feel his presence nearby.

So she summoned her dark element spirit energy and cloaked herself in thick black mist as she pulled a set of clean clothes out of her spatial ring and changed.

When the black mist disappeared, she was wearing a black set of pants and shirt, covering her from head to toe. She threw a purple cloak over that and put on the hood, hiding her silver hair.

Just like that, she walked downstairs and came to the old tavern lady to buy something to drink and eat. She realized that after walking out of the Land of Exile, she got hungry faster. It was probably because of the Heavenly Law.

After eating, she walked out of the tavern, into the darkness of the city, just moments before dawn. Leaning against the wall of a dilapidated house was Alexander, with that annoying smile still on his face. He walked over to her and his gaze roamed over her outfit. "Clothes like this were normal in your past life?" he asked with a lifted brow.

"Not really..." Michelle shook her head. "It depended on where you went. Also, the cloak I’m wearing is from this world. Cloaks and coats there were different. But the pants and shirt were just casual everyday clothes there. Not good for formal events and things like that."

Alexander wasn’t really curious about fashion. He just wanted to confirm if the clothes Michelle was wearing were something inspired by her old world, as they seemed quite comfortable and easy to move in. Instead, he decided to move on to a different theme. "You are looking for a place where you can destroy the Soul Seeking Pendants without causing a ruckus?" he asked.

"Yeah..." Michelle nodded a bit.

"And are you still curious about the tavern?" he continued, but the second question seemed a bit out of place. What did the Soul Seeking Pendants have to do with the tavern?

"Yes," Michelle still answered. It wasn’t anything worth hiding. "Why do you ask?"

"Let’s just say I want to repay a favor..." Alexander hummed with a smirk.

That made Michelle frown a bit. "If you are talking about the void that was in your body, it was a deal between me and David. There’s no need for any further repayment."

"Not at all!" Alexander shook his head with a playful glint in his eyes. It was clear he didn’t care about repaying favors. He just wanted a reason to stick his nose into Michelle’s matters and the case with the void was a good excuse. "Like you said, that was a deal between you and him. But you had more trouble pulling the void out of me, so I owe you one." He spoke with a teasing grin.

Michelle frowned a bit. She really hated the idea of going along with Alexander’s wishes. If he just silently followed her around, she would be able to ignore him, but that was clearly not his intention. "Pulling the void was beneficial to me since I gained more soul energy!" she retorted, wanting any reason possible to make Alexander stay away from her.

But, a pity, she was too weak to force him to leave her alone, and he had already set his mind on helping her. If one could call it that.

"So what do you want?" Michelle asked after a while of bickering with Alexander. There was really no way to get through to him. Well. He definitely did understand what she wanted and why she wanted it so, but he was just dastardly stubborn.

"I know a place where you can release the souls!" he said with a playful smile.

Hearing that, Michelle was a bit surprised. If he was telling the truth, it would be useful for her, but she had no clue how far that place was. "Show me the place..." she said after a while.

"As you wish!" Alexander’s smile widened as he strode past her and walked towards a building.

When Michelle saw the building, her eyes narrowed. "Why are you going into the tavern?" she asked with a frown as she followed behind him.

But Alexander didn’t answer her question and just entered the door Michelle had left just a moment ago.

At first, no one really paid attention to him, but once the old tavern lady’s gaze fell on him, she froze in shock. She clearly knew Alexander and was surprised to see him. That meant she most probably knew that he was trapped in the Land of Exile because of the void within his body, the Void Plague.
