Chapter 113: 113

When Ivona left to go to the mountains on the border between the Land of Exile and the lower realm, Michelle secluded herself in the dark annex and sent a wisp of her consciousness into her spatial bracelet. For a few days, she just observed how the space worked, the flow of spirit energy in it, before she decided it was the right time to try reshaping the space for the first time.

Frown when she was starightening the space twists, she knew that direct force wasn’t a good try and that she should try to use harmony to do anything with the space since she had a contract with it, but her instincts were telling her to use force. Still, since she had already tried to use it once and felt the exhaustion of trying brute force against space, she decided to try that as a last resort if she couldn’t think of anything else.

So, just like when she was straughtening the space twists, she seeped her wisp of consciousness into the space and spread her spirit and soul energy around a part of the space and imagined what she wanted it to look like in her head. Instantly, the space started shifting, but instead of turning into what she wanted, it just struck at her spirit and soul energy and pushed her consciousness out of the bracelet, making her knit her brows together. She didn’t expect that. It seemed that if she didn’t show the space some kind of strength or authority, it would just disregard her.

With a sigh, she sent her wisp of consciousness back into the spatial bracelet, and, unlike before, she didn’t seep it into the space, but stright up forced her spirit energy into all corners of the whole straightened part of the space. Then she did the same with her soul energy. Since harmony didn’t work, she would try something a bit harsh, but not fully forceful.

After her soul and spirit energy filled the usable space, she kept spreading out more of it, letting it seep even into a part of the unusable, twisted-up space before stopping. Then, she remembered the image of what she wanted the space to look like and retracted the energies all at once, like a tsunami rushing toward her. As the wave rushed at her, everywhere it passed turned into a field of frozen ground. In some places, even small snowing clouds appeared.

Seeing that, Michelle was a bit delighted, but not really. The method she used allowed her to alter the whole space, but she wanted to change just a part of it. She was on the right track, but something was wrong. Or maybe she was on a completely wrong track which just resembled the right one.

Since the harsh, but not really forceful, method didn’t work, Michelle considered using brute force, but she still had a few ideas in mind that she could use first. She also had one which she would use only if even brute force failed her.

But she wanted to avoid using it as much as possible, because it wasn’t a method she could use repetitively, as it would completely drain both her spirit and soul energy, so she would have to sleep for over a month again. And with the spirit energy, it wouldn’t just drain the part which she could restore by some cultivating. It could completely drain her body of spirit energy, so she would need to start cultivating all over again. And that thought was highly repulsive. She was quite a lazy person, so she didn’t like returning to things she had already done once.

The next method Michelle wanted to try was basically the same as creating a tsunami of her soul and spirit energy in the spatial bracelet, but she didn’t want to make it so large-scale. She tried hard to keep her soul and spirit energy in a small radius around her wisp of consciousness, but it was like a gas, expansive, so even though the energies were the thickest around her, they still spread all around the room.

And that made her raise a brow in surprise. Whenever she used her soul or spirit energy in the outside world, it tried to stay as close to her as possible, but within the spatial bracelet, it just tried to fill every corner, as if it was no longer in her control once she let it out of her wisp of consciousness. She had never met such an anomaly.

Still, Michelle pulled the energies to her once again and formed a small tsunami with it, but the result that she saw when it ended was, well, to be expected. As in the places further from her, the energies were thinner, the tsunami there was smaller, and only parts of the space there got changed. As the tsunami progressed closer to her, the energies got denser, and the changed parts became bigger. And in a circle around her, where the density of the energies was at its peak, the whole area was changed.

That wasn’t something Michelle wanted to see. She knew that in nature, the biomes didn’t change from one to another like they were separated by the barrier of Heavenly Law between realms, on one side full of one biome and on the other side full of another biome, but she wanted to achieve that in her spatial bracelet so she could use each part as an incubator and growing space for a group from the eggs she got at the auction where she bought Snow as an egg.

With a sigh, Michelle decided to give the method one more try. She knew that the result would be the same, but she wanted to find out why her energies spread out in the spatial barelet when in the outside world, they clung to her when she didn’t control them to do something else.

She had a guess in mind, but she had no way of confirming it, so after giving the method one more try, so she could observe the spreading of the energies more, she would go to the library to confirm get rid of her doubts. And if she couldn’t find anything, she would go ask her father, the Archduke, since he himself had a contracted spatial artifact, so he definitely knew something about it.

Doing everything the same as before, Michelle put her full concentration into keeping the spirit and soul energu from sprading out too much, so she could observe as it moved around and tried to get away from her wisp of consciousness.

Finally, Michelle pulled all the soul and spirit energy back to her, absorbing the tsunami of energies into her body. Then, she retracted her wisp of consciousness, stood up, and left the annex, going to the library building. She found the floor with things about contracts, and then the sections about contract artifacts, not beasts. There, she looked for books about contrakts with spatial artifacts.

Finally, she chose the few books that looked the oldest and brought them over to the small table by the window and sat down. Each floor of the library had a window and a table by it, so those who knew they would need more than one book could stay there to read them and maybe take notes.

After reading the few books, which took her another few days because the books were written in the old language and quite difficult, Michelle leaned back in her chair and looked out the window at the setting sun. She was guessing that Anastasia would soon wake up, so she put the books back in their place and went into her room in the mansion, still thinking about the content of the books. She had to sort her thoughts out a bit, but she already knew that her initial guess was correct.

In the books, she found out many things about spatial artifacts and how they acted after being contracted, and one of the things was how they reacted to their contractor’s soul, or spirit energy. Or any other energy the contractor had.

Basically, any energy that came from within one’s body naturally clung to them, especially their dantian, or wherever the energy was stored, but once the energy entered a space that belonged to the energy’s wielder, it could no longer feel the wielder’s dantian.

In such a situation, three scenarios could happen. The first would be that the energy would spread around evenly, knowing it is in a space belonging to the wielder.

The second would be that the energy would try to search for the dantian, running around chaotically.

And the third would be that the energy would spread around gradually, with the densest being close to something resembling the soul of the wielder, or directly their soul, and the thinnest being in the corners of the space. That happened when the energy tried to search for the dantian, but it felt the presence of the wielder, so it still stuck to the wielder’s soul, wisp of consciousness, or whatever carrying part of the wielder’s soul, in some parts.

After taking a bath, Michelle went to sleep, feeling quite tired from all the studying. She wasn’t worried that she wouldn’t find out when Anastasia woke up, as the maids would definitely tell her.
