Chapter 80: Trauma
Chapter 80: Trauma
Now that Arren could think more about his dream, perhaps it wasn’t all just a vivid dream but something even more significant! Although he didn’t know what it was about or even about that shadow. For him to be in that place while he was sleeping, that was really suspicious enough, but for four days?
However, other than worrying about the meaning of that dream and the shadow, he was more concerned with what his condition was!
His father became solemn with his question, and Arren’s expression sank. Don’t tell him; was it truly something serious? Just as he thought he had already escaped having heart disease, he got something else again! Perhaps, his liver had collected his debt this early? However, he wasn’t that alcoholic, and he only drank in moderation from time to time when he felt like it.
While Arren loved to go to clubs and bars, that was only for the venue; he never drank without limits either. He didn’t want to die early because of an unhealthy life.
"You’re not sick," After a suspenseful silence from his father, he answered.
Arren finally could breathe a sigh of relief; at least he wasn’t sick. However, he wasn’t happy for long, as he still felt that something was amiss. If nothing was wrong with him, why did he suddenly pass out and become unconscious for four days? Even the expression on his father’s face didn’t seem right either.
His calming emotions began to sink once more.
"Then... what is wrong with me?" He inquired, trying hard to make his voice sound normal even though he was already anxious for the answer. At least, it wasn’t so serious as a terminal illness, right? He could still be cured. Arren could only comfort himself with that.
The Duke sighed and shook his head.
"We don’t know anything either; even the doctors can’t tell." The Duke responded, his voice now filled with worry. He then continued after a second of pause, "They conducted tests, and nothing seen was wrong apart from... a trace of trauma that was detected in your brain. They concluded that you passed out because the trauma was triggered, which is also the reason why you’ve been unconscious for so long." The Duke explained quite in detail and almost only sounded like a copy of the diagnosis from the doctor.
Trauma? Arren furrowed his brows, and he couldn’t believe it the first time he heard it from his father’s mouth. The reason he passed out was because his trauma was triggered? Did he have any kind of serious trauma?
Arren admitted that what happened to him when he was drugged and almost assaulted when he was in heat left a long-lasting scar within him. However, even that, Arren only thought of it as a minor trauma at best.
Looking at his reaction, his father seemed to smile a bit, yet a bit sad still.
"I know that you also think the diagnosis is ridiculous, I also thought so at first." His father, without waiting for him to say something, began to talk again. "Even His Majesty himself didn’t quite believe it at first." His voice now sounded even lower, but there was a slight hint of approval in his tone.
Hearing this, Arrem’s ears perked up as Spade was finally mentioned. He was also concerned about the alpha, and he knew that Spade couldn’t possibly be here to watch him as his father could. After all, the alpha was the Emperor, and he was still bound by his responsibilities.
However, he was also certain that his alpha had definitely visited him. It was not him being conceited but his trust in Spade and even in their relationship.
"His Majesty, called over the royal doctors, and yet everyone couldn’t tell what was wrong with you so..." His father smiled, much more genuine this time, and even almost laughed as he recalled things. It wasn’t because something was funny but even more out of satisfaction for Spade, not as his monarch but as his son-in-law.
Arren was curious as to why he didn’t wait for long as his father continued. "They were all yelled at! Each one of them was called something by the emperor, and no one dared to react. Since they can’t tell what’s wrong, His Majesty almost fired all of them in an instant and called them useless. He was truly furious, even myself, I have never seen His Majesty like that."
He listened intently to his father, and Arren could almost picture Spade when he was yelling at all the doctors and calling them useless because no one could diagnose what was wrong with him. He almost wanted to smile; he truly thought that the alpha really had a tendency to do such a thing. However, he couldn’t be happy either, since... his alpha was probably so agitated and concerned because of his condition.
Arren, and even Spade might also be aware that those doctors were not at fault; his condition was truly something they couldn’t figure out. However, they were unfortunate, and Spade happened to vent his frustrations and anxiousness on them. Arren was now guilty for those doctors as well.
Thinking of Spade, he raised his gaze and looked at his father.
"Spade... uhm, is he in the palace?" Arren asked. His question sounded a bit dumb as it was probably obvious that the alpha was in the palace. However, he couldn’t think of anything else to ask either.
Actually, he had lots of things to say, but it was better to say those in front of Spade, as they were meant for the alpha.
His father nodded, then looked at his son before sighing deeply.
"His Majesty came back to the palace for a bit, and he will return here later to watch you," the Duke responded, then paused as if he remembered something, "Ah right, I need to inform His Majesty that you’re awake."
Arren understood, and then only a few minutes later did he seem to process the key points.
"Spade will return to watch me?" He couldn’t help but ask; it appeared not to be crucial information, but Arren sensed that it was still a bit important to know.
His father had already let go of his hand; he took his phone out of his pocket and was about to contact Spade. His fingers stopped for a moment, and he looked at Arren.
"Yes, son. His Majesty was also staying here to watch over you when you were unconscious." The Duke sighed, feeling emotional.
If he was still a bit apprehensive about the relationship of his son to the Emperor because of the impact it would have on Arren, he was now fully convinced about it. In the past few days, the Duke has truly sensed that Spade was serious and loved his son very much.
For him, as long as Arren’s future alpha could treasure him even more than he did, the Duke would support him no matter what.
"Spade did?" Arren asked, and although he was surprised, it was still reasonable, but he was also worried that Spade was neglecting his duties because of him. That would make him even more guilty than happy.
The Duke smiled and held Arren’s hand again, as though to reassure him. His father might have noticed something in his expression. In any case, it was a justified concern.
"You don’t have to worry, His Majesty didn’t neglect his duties. While he was here, he worked them here."
Working here? Arren couldn’t understand at first, but when he shifted his gaze to his right side in motioned of his father. He only noticed that there was really a table there and that it seemed to be a work desk with paperworks!
Spade made this place his temporary office... Arren suddenly didn’t know how to feel.
