Chapter 66: Messy Plot (1)

Arren didn’t know what was going on with Spade or why he suddenly became absentminded. He hugged him like he was going to disappear. However, he could feel it. Spade’s chaotic emotions and his fear deeply resonated with him through this embrace.

They stayed like that for a few moments. Arren made himself comfortable in Spade’s arms. He wanted to show Spade that he wasn’t going to vanish and that he would always be here with him.

He was curious about the reason, but Arren didn’t ask in the end. In a sense, it was like Spade; he wanted the other to tell him if he wanted to.

However, he had an idea that his question somehow involved why Spade had become like this. Arren suddenly felt guilty for something he wasn’t sure about.

"Are you okay?" Arren asked; they were still in each other’s arms. Since it had somehow already loosened from the earlier tight embrace, Arren almost couldn’t breathe.

The alpha hummed, caressing his hair.

"I’m sorry, did I scare you?" Spade inquired softly, his voice hoarse. However, it was still the usual calm tone.

Arren nodded. That was his first time seeing Spade so pale, and he was only staring at him as if he saw a ghost. Even when he called for the other, he was motionless, not even blinking.

"You really scared me. I thought something had already happened to you." Arren answered, he clutched Spade’s clothes, still slightly scared from what happened earlier.

"I’m sorry," Spade mumbled. Arren expected more words, but Spade just continued to embrace him and didn’t say anything else, as if he were hesitant to tell him something.

Arren was curious and suspicious, but like Spade, he chose to trust the alpha. Perhaps, this wasn’t the right time yet. That time would come, and all he could do was wait.

They didn’t talk about what happened and acted like nothing, Arren was still lively, and he was extremely good at acting like someone oblivious, after all. However, one thing Arren noticed was that Spade was clingier than usual.

Once they were already lying in bed, he never once let go of him. It seemed there were a lot of things on his mind. Whatever that may be, Arren had no objections to this. He loved the clingy Spade, too.

The next day, Arren woke up, thinking this day would be the same as usual. However, it seemed this day was destined to be different from a normal day.

"What? We’ll eat together with the Mother Empress?" Arren exclaimed in surprise.

He was sitting in bed, waiting for breakfast to come. And Spade just revealed to him that this time they were having breakfast with the Mother Empress herself.

How could he not be startled? He wasn’t expecting this.

Spade chuckled and approached him in bed.

"I’m sorry, I was supposed to tell you last night but I’m unable to." Although Spade was apologizing, he didn’t look like he was.

Arren frowned and glared at him, but he couldn’t blame him nonetheless. In his defense, something really happened between them last night, so it was a good reason to say that he forgot.

Still, he was pissed that Spade only told him this morning. He couldn’t even prepare himself; he was already getting nervous. The title of the Mother Empress was really intimidating, but more than this position, Arren was more anxious because he was Spade’s omega father.

He was going to meet Spade’s parent! And there’s something else...

"You don’t need to be nervous," Spade crouched in front of him, "Royal Mother also wants to meet you; he personally requested this of me."

Arren looked at Spade, although he was still sulking about it. It was also inevitable that he would meet the Mother Empress, especially as he was currently staying in the palace.

"Will he like me?" Arren then mumbled; his usual confidence was nowhere to be seen.

Spade’s gaze softened, and he stroked his chin. "He will surely like you, don’t worry," he said assuringly. Arren did calm down after. He just hoped his charms had an effect on the Mother Empress.

Arren was carried again by Spade, as he had become accustomed to during these days. Although, he could now use crutches to support himself.

Spade then began his steps to where they would eat breakfast together with the Mother Empress. Although his face was still the same, Arren could feel something different as well.

Arren tightened his hold around Spade’s neck to support himself as he was peeking a glance at Spade. He didn’t know if this change could be a good or bad thing, though. However, at this moment, aside from being more protective and affectionate than usual, Arren couldn’t see anything wrong.

Setting these thoughts temporarily aside, Arren focused his attention on their way, the solemn hall with intricate and majestic cravings on the wall.

It had been almost a week since Arren had stayed in the palace. However, he was mostly in Spade’s room or another room for his online studies. One was that he couldn’t go too far because of his condition, and the other, which was more important, was that no one actually knew that he was staying in the palace.

Aside from the trusted royal guards and attendants and his father, no one else knew that the Emperor’s lover was staying in the palace. And this time, of course, the Mother Empress also knew.

"Are we going to the Mother Empress’ room?" Arren couldn’t help but ask, there wasn’t anyone in the vicinity other than the two of them. Arren had grown used to the silence; fortunately, it wasn’t that different from the Katz Mansion.

"No, we are going to the dining room," Spade answered as if it were a matter of fact.

Arren couldn’t even become mad, the alpha only answered his question. A stupid question at that. He still gave the alpha a piercing stare to let him know he didn’t like how he answered him.

The alpha chuckled, and without looking at him, it seemed Spade already felt his malicious gaze.

"What did I do?" He asked, glancing at Arren, amusement in his eyes as he pretended to be clueless.

Arren narrowed his eyes. He couldn’t answer because he didn’t do anything at all.

However, their conversation ended abruptly as they happened to meet the Mother Empress himself at the entrance of the dining room. Arren immediately fell silent and could only peer slightly at the figure.

He had a thin and small build, however, that couldn’t overlook his natural elegance and nobility. His appearance didn’t exactly bear a resemblance to Spade’s, but Arren could conclude that Spade inherited his demeanor and his air, which immediately demanded everyone’s attention as they stood in front of the crowd.

Mother Empress Liviera, Spade’s omega father. Arren was also familiar with him from the book. While his role couldn’t be considered major, his character was one of the most remarkable for him. Maybe that’s why he never forgot about it.

Despite his outward appearance, Mother Empress Liviera was a ruthless individual. It was he who sacrificed Rave and almost caused his death. It was also he who caused a great deal of damage to the organization, and he killed Curt and some noble spies in the most tragic way in the novel.

Arren can’t remember a lot of things, but he would never forget this character so much. Even with how horrible his character was depicted, no one could hate him. How much hatred did he have for the organization for him to turn out like that?

He knew. Liviera hated the organization to the core. Arren also couldn’t remember the reason, but it could be related to his late husband. No one knew, but Arren was now meeting this person.

And he was extremely nervous.
