The Emperor's Omega Is An Extra -
Chapter 193: Him
Chapter 193: Him
Needless to say, there was quite a commotion in the mansion after Spade woke up. Although Arren was so excited to be with his alpha for much longer, he still called for the doctors and examined Spade right away.
Aside from the doctors, everyone was really happy that Spade finally woke up; even his father couldn’t help but spectate when the doctors were examining the alpha.
As they concluded, Spade’s vitals were all normal, and he had already recovered from his fever. He was so healthy that it would only take a day for a full recovery from his sleep, as though that sleep was necessary for him.
Arren stared at the alpha, who was now talking to his father, talking with the empire’s stuff after waking up. He observed him intently, his arms folded in his chest as he leaned his back on the wall.
The doctors were already dismissed, and aside from them, there was another person there, Rave.
"Something’s wrong?" a graceful voice whispered beside his ears. Arren blinked and cast a glance at Rave, who was beside him. Both were beside the door, quite a distance from the bed.
His brow arched up, and Arren was about to retort jokingly, "How could there be something wrong? However, looking at the serious omega, he swallowed the words.
He sighed before shifting his gaze back to the alpha as he narrowed his eyes. "Nothing, there’s nothing wrong," he responded with a low voice, tilting his head slightly before he added, "And that’s even more weird." A second after he finished, he turned and looked at Rave, chuckling at his words. "I don’t make sense, right?"
Arren shook his head, laughing once more, before approaching the two and asking permission to leave. Now, he needed to cook for his alpha as he planned.
When they were outside the room, Rave spoke, which made Arren stop in his tracks. He lifted his head and looked at the white-haired omega. Both seemed frozen and could only look at each other.
"Something’s wrong." This time it wasn’t a question anymore but a statement. It took a few seconds of silence before Arren responded.
He licked his lips and averted his gaze, chuckling even though he didn’t really mean it. "There’s always something wrong, right?"
He ended with that and went on his way. Rave didn’t refute Arren because he was right. In these turbulent times, there would always be something wrong, even if they didn’t intend it to.
As for what was wrong this time, Arren was the only one who knew it best. However, he thought it wasn’t that bad.
After the two were gone, Spade and the Duke were left inside the room. They had been talking about the situation in the empire, but it hadn’t had any significant changes since his three days of absence.
The two simultaneously looked at where they were earlier before their faces became serious. As a monarch and his subject for years, both already had a tacit understanding of each other.
When it came to Arren, the Duke was willing to present himself and not involve his son any further. However, that wasn’t possible; Arren was a key individual the said organization was after. Duke Katz was ready for war more than anyone else.
"Your Majesty, the files that you sent were already analyzed," the Duke informed. His presence in the investigation was only second to Spade’s, and he was cooperating with Black Intel as well.
Spade nodded; his back leaned on the headboard, and his eyes were still fixed on where Arren was standing earlier. From the Duke’s perspective, it seemed the emperor wasn’t really listening to him, but Spade responded just fine.
"Mm, I’ll visit them later." His eyes were still looking in the same direction as though absentminded, but his answer to the Duke was correct, revealing that he was still focusing on their conversation, albeit really distracted.
Duke Katz nodded; he didn’t ask anything more than that or inquire what was wrong with the monarch. Instead, he was even more curious about one thing.
"Your Majesty, I’m sorry if what I’m about to ask seems to overstep my boundaries," the Duke politely said.
This time, Spade finally glanced at the Duke, nodding his head and motioning for Duke Katz to continue.
The Duke seemed to sigh, having a hard time bringing it up. "It’s about Chief Levin." At that mention, Spade’s gaze deepened, this was noticed by the Duke, who almost stopped talking but continued. "That kid, uh... Chief Levin, has been wanting to visit the mansion since he found out you’re sick, but Serrien gives him more missions, and he wasn’t able to." From his tone, there was a kind of pity in his tone, sympathizing with Levin.
He might not say it, but he also didn’t know why Serrien had been giving Levin a hard time and not letting him visit Spade. The three were childhood friends that Duke Katz also saw grow up. It was as though they were slowly making Levin’s presence invisible.
Spade was taken aback for a moment, as though he didn’t expect this from the Duke, but he recovered quickly. He didn’t answer immediately, as he fell silent.
He was reminded that Duke Katz still didn’t know about the organization leader’s identity or even his suspicions before they were proven. Spade only talked about it to Serrien, as he was also the one managing the Black Intel, and his secretary knew that he was investigating Princess Noreen.
It wasn’t that he wanted to isolate Levin, but unless the plan for handling Levin was finished, Spade wanted the alpha to be kept in the dark for much longer. And Serrien was fulfilling Spade’s intention by keeping Levin busy.
However, thinking of Levin, it would be a lie if Spade said he wasn’t affected. His eyes fell to his hands, looking at them with his darkened eyes. He sighed and lifted his head, staring straight through Duke Katz’s eyes
"Duke, what do you think the future holds?" he inquired. His eyes were calm, but it seemed there was a much deeper intention in this question of his that Duke Katz had forgotten how to respond to.
No, in fact, Duke Katz wasn’t able to answer this question, to which Spade never intended to hear an answer. Until the Duke left Spade in the room, this question was left unanswered.
Truly, what was the answer to this question? Spade didn’t know the answer either. Silence enveloped the room. He looked at his hand for a long time before he leaned the back of his head against the headboard and looked at the ceiling.
Could it really be destroyed by his own hand?
It was weirder to say that Spade believed in premonitions, but he had this dream when he was sleeping. They were something vivid, instantly reminding him of what Arren said had happened to him before.
Spade first stood alone in the darkness, there was only light surrounding him, but beyond that, it was pure darkness. He didn’t even know where the light on position came from, but they were there, accompanying him wherever he went.
He didn’t know how long he stood in the same position before he finally thought of exploring the darkness. However, no matter where he came or how far he walked, it was still darkness. It didn’t seem like he was leaving his position.
It was bizarre and even scary, but he paid it no mind, only calmly accepting his situation. After a long time, it was rather boring. He only stood in that darkness, no one was beside him. He even thought that it would be even better if there was something in the darkness instead to make it more exciting.
Spade began to walk once more. He didn’t care if he was leaving his position or if his mind was giving him the illusion that he was. He calmly traversed the dark surroundings, hoping for some light.
It was deafeningly quiet, and the thoughts in his mind were even more amplified this time. He thought of so many things that he began to get lost in time.
Until he stopped. He roamed his eyes, waiting for something to happen. And before his eyes, suddenly, a fire began to spread. It started at his feet until the dark surroundings were illuminated by the fire. The calm in his eyes was momentarily shaken by what he saw.
The surroundings that were now lit up in his vision became familiar to him, however, the fire engulfed everything in its vicinity. The ruins stretched in the distance, and he couldn’t even roam his eyes properly as he was only looking at the center of them.
There stood, as the fire slowly devoured it, a place he was so familiar with... the palace. Spade froze where he stood, shock written in his eyes. Even though he knew that it was all but a dream, this image was still something that shook his mind.
He frowned and began walking again, this time with the direction in mind, the palace. Even with the fire in his path, Spade remained unharmed, as though he didn’t really belong there, so the fire couldn’t bother him.
With each passing second, the fear in his heart grew. Bodies in uniforms that he couldn’t be more familiar with piled up and lay on the ground, lifeless. They were royal guards and servants. And some that he didn’t know, but this sight alone gave Spade an idea immediately.
War. It must have happened here.
For some reason, as he was walking in the center of the palace, his heartbeat increased, and there was nervousness that crept into his spine, it was eerily familiar.
And not long after, he finally knew why. His gaze constricted as he stared at the figure in front of him. He was like an incarnation of hell, as fire shrouded his figure. He knew who it was... it was himself.
As they made eye contact, amidst the fire around him, Spade could discern a lot of emotions in his eyes. Somehow it resonated within him, awakening an emotion he never thought he had.
Agony and despair. Regret and yearning. Peace and hope. They were so mixed that it made Spade’s face twisted, his chest in pain. Still, he never leaves his gaze on himself.
The him that was shrouded in fire seemed to see him too. His eyes lingered on Spade, and he opened his mouth to say something that truly crumbled all his reason.
"Don’t repeat my misery, protect him... this time."
