Chapter 191: Mess

Arren was so stunned to see Spade cry in front of him that he didn’t even know how to react for a moment, but tears also uncontrollably pooled in his eyes. He could feel the pain and exhaustion just by the emotions from those words alone.

This pain resonated within him, making his heart ache at the same time. Even if he hated to see Spade like this, Arren didn’t leave his eyes off the alpha, even more now. He lifted his hand and cupped the alpha’s face as he also wiped the tears soaking his face.

Spade didn’t make a sound while crying at all, but his tears streamed down his cheeks without stopping for a few minutes. The alpha closed his eyes and leaned his head slightly toward Arren’s hand on his cheek, rubbing them as though seeking comfort.

His silent tears were what made it harder for Arren because this revealed just how much emotion the alpha had been bottling inside him—all the pressure that he chose to bear by himself, alone.

And yet, even at this moment, he was still trying to be strong and not burden anyone. Even though he was tired, Spade never complained. It seemed that it was not only his fever that intensified his emotions; what he discovered today was too heavy for him to bear alone.

"Spade," Arren whispered comfortingly, "I’m here." There were also tears streaming down his cheeks; he couldn’t help but cry while watching Spade’s silent yet painful tears.

As he spoke, Spade suddenly opened his eyes, which were damp with his tears. Their eyes made eye contact. He didn’t say anything but silently wiped Arren’s tears as well.

At this action, a few quiet sobs escaped his mouth. Why was Spade like this? He was supposed to be the one who should comfort him, but the alpha was still doing his best to coax Arren, even in this state.

"Don’t take everything just by yourself anymore; you can share with him. I... I’ll try my best to be of help to you. Please..." he desperately begged in his voice.

He didn’t want to be the only lover who needed to be coaxed to be happy when angry or spoiled. Arren admitted that he wasn’t entirely reliable, he could mess up a lot of things without knowing why or having the care to find out due to his reckless personality.

Careless, reckless, and a beautiful omega with a bad mouth. These were all the descriptions that best described Arren in other people’s gossip; they painted his image throughout the years, for which he never blamed anyone but himself. In fact, he never regretted it. That was how he needed and wanted to live himself.

Live with a reckless mind, and die without regrets. Arren was a magnet for trouble and bad influences because... He was a big disaster, to begin with.

For once, as he looked at Spade and finally thought of wanting to do anything to deserve the alpha, Arren tried to be reliable enough for his lover to trust him by lifting the burden and pressure on him.

"Spade, I don’t want to just be your lover. Let me be your partner. Share your burdens with me, Let’s... get through all this together." His voice was so firm amidst his tears that Spade’s eyes didn’t leave his gaze off him.

As they stared into each other’s tear-stricken eyes, there was a comfortable sensation that began to root itself within them. It was way beyond the trust they had for each other... it was the understanding and connection between them that deepened to the point that it surprised even them.

Was it really possible to love someone this much in one lifetime? It was like their feelings for each other continued to grow each day, and no one wanted to stop that process.

After a few seconds passed as Spade looked at his sincere eyes that were soaked with his crystal tears, the alpha had now calmed down, and the tears in his eyes had eventually stopped. He smiled and wiped the tears from Arren’s eyes with his thumb.

"You’re more than a lover to me," he gently muttered. "Arren, can you listen to... even how mess everything that I’m about to share with you?"

Arren only nodded his head, The moment was for Spade, this was a time for him. Even with the fever, Spade continued after seeing his answer. The silence of the evening shrouded them, and the warmth of their skin because of Spade’s high temperature, and their connected hearts made for an unusual atmosphere.

He only listened as Spade shared with him what he could; no matter how shocked he was by all of this information, he never uttered a word. All he did was tighten his grip and embrace the alpha, making his presence known.

The decrypted chip gave him evidence and files about organizations that needed to be processed by the necessary department, but that wasn’t the most important part.

Spade’s eyes were a bit lost as he spoke with a helpless expression, wincing as this information tormented him so much.

"My aunt... she’s the one who killed my father." With a complicated expression, Spade managed to say these words, his head throbbing as he did so. The aching of his head due to his fever and the effects of the medicine he was suppressing all made his head spin and heavier yet lightheaded at the same time.

Arren’s eyes widen, and his mouth gapes in surprise. He drew a mouthful of air, hugging Spade even tighter. He didn’t want to say anything, but even more so, he couldn’t think of what to say.

Princess Coreen was the one who killed the late Emperor. He managed to control his emotions at the mention of the princess, but his face still paled. Spade noticed this, that was why he didn’t want to inform Arren yet, but they had already come to this point. He knew, his omega was brave, much braver than he thought Arren was.

And he was right, Arren managed to control his fear despite the obvious effect of that name.

"But my father said... in his last message, aunt is not in her right mind. That I need to save her," Spade chuckled bitterly, as though he thought just how ridiculous it was. The anger also couldn’t be contained.

"Arren, tell me, how can I save the one who killed my father? The one who, even to this day, makes my last parent left to suffer from loneliness? Tell me, because I don’t know how I can justify sparing her life to my Royal Mother." Although Spade said it like that, he was also having a hard time deciding whether to abide by his father’s words or the anger in his heart.

In this outburst, Spade’s head throbbed intensely; he paid it no mind and chose to continue. "Once Royal Mother finds out, I’ll have a hard time controlling him, he will even be more suicidal than he already is. I don’t even know... when he will also leave me."

Spade knew Liviera only wanted to resolve and take revenge on those who killed his husband. During the past years that he sat on the throne, it couldn’t be said that their relationship as father and son was bad, but that it was not anything good either.

Liviera was too caught up in his revenge and goals to look for Spade while he was busy managing his empire. Throughout the years, their distance widened compared to when he was younger, when Liviera was much livelier and more caring toward his son.

He didn’t blame Liviera; he understood what he was going through. Having lost his mate, he couldn’t even imagine just how much suffering his omega father had to go through each day. A mate’s connection was the harshest commitment than love and marriage. One person can only have one mate in their entire life; the mark would never fade away in their body and pheromones.

However, Spade might not blame Liviera for that, but that didn’t mean he didn’t have any lingering resentments. Not once when he became an Emperor did he feel his omega father’s support; Liviera was even one of those conspiring against Spade to push through his marriage and plant omegas beside him. It was so hard that he could only suppress and control himself; he didn’t have anyone else to rely on otherwise.

Spade vented his emotions while Arren listened to him, never interrupting him. A few minutes had passed before the alpha was done. He was aware that Spade really only shared with him, and wasn’t asking for any opinions. It was because it was not yet time to make decisions since the alpha had a fever, so Arren didn’t waste any time giving his opinions.

They could talk some other time about it. Spade really only wanted to share, that was all. He only told about Princess Coreen and Liviera but not about Levin or who was the leader of the organization. Arren had finally come to terms that it was truly complicated for him to know, Spade was only protecting him. While on what to do about Levin... Arren felt how the alpha evaded this topic as well.

Either this was giving him even more burden or... He had already decided what to do. The latter was even more likely the reason.

When they finished, Spade closed his eyes again. It seemed that after venting out, the fever and sleepiness that he had stubbornly resisted had finally affected him.

However, Arren noticed that as he brushed Spade’s hair to wipe the mess and disheveled hair on his forehead, the alpha’s face, despite being flushed from his fever, became relaxed as he slept peacefully.

He sighed and leaned forward before kissing Spade’s forehead. Sleep tight, my love.
