Chapter 178: Manipulated
However, the emotions only flashed, and he slowly pushed them aside for the time being and continued to watch and listen to his father, who continued to tell him how he needed to save his aunt, who poisoned his father and eventually killed him.
Spade thought it was too ridiculous; why did his father need to defend his aunt’s actions and even want to reason for Spade to save her?
He didn’t want to think that it was only because she was his little sister or because of the integrity of the royal family. Royal family be damned, he would raise hell if someone dared to harm the one he loved in this world.
As he thought of it, he seemed to become frozen and stared absentmindedly at the video that was playing in its last few seconds. He realized, his aunt was also one of those he truly cared for. She was... more than an aunt to him; she was more like a second mother to Spade.
"She is manipulated. Please, son... save your aunt. And... I’m sorry."
The video then stopped. Spade still stared at the paused video and the image of his father. His mind was blanking out; it was as though, for the first time, he was having a hard time processing what he was going to do.
A few seconds later, before he leaned on his seat, he bitterly swallowed the emotions inside him. He bit his lips, as his eyelids drooped slightly. Suddenly, he was too exhausted.
Looking at his father, who just gave him an impossible task. It was too hard, even for Spade, he was having a hard time taking it in.
"How... can I save the one that killed you?" he mumbled, with a pained expression.
He was so conflicted, it made his head hurt, as though all the tiredness he had accumulated in the past few days had slowly seeped into his whole being at the moment.
Spade then decided to play it again, and this time, tried to listen with the perspective of a monarch and with forced rationality. After that, he played it again, and he didn’t even know how much he had watched those few minutes of video from his father.
It was to the point that even as he closed his eyes in the chair, he could still hear his father’s voice repeating in his mind. Spade already memorized the message of his father, and yet it seemed understanding them still had a long way to go.
He stayed like that for a few minutes, thinking about what actions he should take. This time, it was tough to put his personal thoughts aside and completely look at everything from the perspective of an emperor.
He could understand that even after all that, his father didn’t disclose everything and was almost determined to carry the truth to his deathbed. But he still made a video for Spade at the last minute, it was all the more to tell Spade to not hate and save his sister even after what she did with his little bit of strength left.
Spade couldn’t blame his father; she was his sister.
His fingers tapped on the armrest, closing his eyes and pondering his following action, still with a chaotic mind. His aunt was not in her right mind, as per his father.
"Manipulated?" he muttered, lost in his thoughts. Spade opened his eyes and exited the video before reading the names of the folders again. He clicked on some of them, ignoring the organization folder for the time being.
After going through them, there were still a bunch of small folders inside and files saved on them. He only skimmed some of the documents and was planning to make another department to analyze them, he would only leave the video for him.
"Drug?" He frowned and furrowed his brows. What kind of drug can manipulate someone’s thinking and make them move like a puppet? Even if his father told him that his aunt was only being manipulated, Spade hardly believed it.
It was truly impossible to think that some kind of drug had the ability to fool someone’s mind and manipulate them into killing their family. This was far too terrifying and needed attention.
"A drug that intensifies one’s obsession." Spade read them out loud with furrowed brows. The more he read them, the more the creases in his brows and his frown deepened.
After reading them, he froze and looked at them with dazed eyes. The organization had such a thing. Spade almost shivered at the thought; they were indeed a horrible bunch who could come up with anything like some kind of lunatic.
It made him extremely disgusted, but at the same time, he had to admit that they were terrifying opponents. Their plans run deep; who knew for how long?
If the conjectures were correct, his aunt was manipulated by the organization. But when did she encounter them? Spade squinted his eyes. A drug this potent certainly has its limitations as well.
What could it be the obsession other than love? A realization flashed in his eyes, the marquis... Levin’s father.
The conjectures in his mind were becoming confirmed before him, which left him speechless in a way that he almost thought he was in a nightmare.
He stood and stepped out of the room before he stopped and motioned for the royal guard to say what he was going to say. He might have a lot on his mind. but he was still perceptive as always in his years of multi-tasking.
"Your Majesty, someone wanted to meet you," the royal guard answered.
Spade arched his brows and asked, "Who?"
The royal guard hesitated before answering, "He said he is the former House of Amon’s Marchioness."
He was taken aback at first before the crease in his brow slightly softened, and yet there was a dangerous glint in his eyes.
He finally wants to meet me, huh?

"Your Highness is indeed so talented," her servant praised as she finished another painting of a rose.
Princess Coreen only smiled a little, appreciating the compliment. She looked at the vases of assorted flowers in front and then at the one she painted. There was almost no difference, and the one she made was not real.
Of course, it was a painting. When did a painting become real?
With gentle hands, she traced the flowers before picking one rose; there were still some thorns on it, but she didn’t mind them. She liked it like that; a beautiful rose full of thorns seemed fresh in her eyes.
"Y-Your Highness," the servant hesitated, calling to her mistress.
Princess Coreen arched her brow, smiled, and raised her gaze to look at the servant. "What?" she inquired, not bothering as her fingers soaked the rose with her blood, deepening its color.
Her smile widened as though there was not even a slight pain in her fingers, her expression still as gentle as ever. "It’s beautiful, don’t you think?"
And the servant could only gulp the fear in her heart as she nodded almost tearfully. No one knew, but... her mistress had grown a deep obsession with... blood.
