Chapter 176: Miss

It was a few days after they came back to the capital that the news broke and reached Spade’s ears. Arren was not in the palace but returned to the Katz Mansion to be with his father and console the Duke about what happened on the island.

However, it was more about Arren. He also missed his father and the mansion, so he stayed there, leaving Spade to tend and focus on the work and responsibilities he left. In some way, it was also Arren’s consideration of the alpha.

"The chip is... decrypted?" Spade’s finger stopped from flipping the document as his voice trailed off and he raised his head, looking at Serrien, then diverting to someone from the Black Intel a few steps behind him.

Both nodded their heads respectfully, and silence shrouded the room. No one spoke after that. Spade stared at the two; his face almost couldn’t be read before, after a few seconds, he leaned on his seat, resting his hand on the desk.

After a while, he drew a deep breath; his eyes flashed with some light, and yet there was a light of anxiety within. Spade wanted to know what was inside that chip so bad, but at the same time, he was also nervous about what he would discover.

With a lot of confusion, guesses, and even doubts in mind, Spade composed himself and finally nodded.

"We’ll go there at once." Spade stood and loosened his cuffs before taking a few steps. It was only after a few steps that he stopped, turned, and cast a side glance at Serrien. "Don’t let anyone know for the time being," he said as he silently strode forward.

As for who this someone was, it was not anyone else but Liviera. Why? Spade knew the obsessions of his omega father, and for a little while, he wanted to confirm them first.

Not long after, Spade was already in the car as they drove to the secret base. Some other similar cars also drove with them before they would encircle some intersections and a few locations; it was their anti-tracking to confuse whoever was monitoring them.

So, a thirty-minute drive could even be an hour or two. However, it was a necessary procedure.

Spade put his phone in his ears as he waited for the call to get through, his head tiredly leaning in his seat. He hadn’t had a decent sleep in the past few days since they came back and had been buried by the workload he had to focus on.

He was used to it. Spade had been doing this kind of work for years, and sometimes he could be labeled a workaholic because he never got to rest. For the past years, Spade only fixed himself with his responsibilities and didn’t even have time to date at all or even just go on a vacation.

However, after being together with Arren, he finally had the time to rest and lay down to be with the one he loved and sleep. So, even though he was indeed used to his work, Spade still couldn’t help but miss Arren and the comfortable presence he gave him.

Was he getting used to this life? Spade didn’t care; he deserved it.

Only a few rings and the call was answered, and only a split second later, a sweet and bright voice sounded in his ears.

"Hello, Spade." The smile was obvious in his words; it was the usual voice of the omega that calmed him down.

Instantly, Spade closed his eyes and almost savored the voice, and it seemed his fatigue and the tiredness of the whole day had vanished like an illusion. And even the anxiety that was creeping into his heart faded as he only listened to a mere few words from Arren.

He couldn’t even respond to Arren and only closed his eyes, silently listening to the omega’s voice.

I missed him. I missed him so damn bad. Spade thought in his mind over and over again. He didn’t want to be too possessive and controlling, so when Arren requested to return to the Katz Mansion, he readily agreed.

"Uh, Spade? Are you there?" Arren called out once more; there was now a slight confusion in his voice due to Spade’s silence.

Spade bit his lips; he got it so hard. As he opened his eyes and looked outside, listening to Arren’s confused voice, he almost wanted to voice out how much he missed the omega and that he wished for him to return to be with him.

Still, he quickly dismissed the idea. It wasn’t right; he shouldn’t push for what he wanted too much. They were his rationality, but of course, his emotions took over him this time.

"I missed you," he blurted out unintentionally, but Spade knew it was only that he wanted to tell him that, and his lips were much faster this time than his thoughts.

This time, it was Arren’s turn on the other end to remain silent, as though stunned by what Spade just said. Spade took a deep breath and repeated what he had blurted out earlier, firmer and clearer this time.

"Arren, I missed you." Spade only heard a slightly hitched breath from the other end, and a trace of a smile curled on his lips. He should’ve video called him; he wanted to see Arren’s reaction.

Spade wasn’t that expressive and showed his affections more through actions, but he knew that it was also important to tell what he felt through his words from time to time.

With a smile and fondness in his eyes, he added as he asked, "Do you miss me too?" There was a bit of teasing in his voice, completely removing the gloom in his heart from earlier.

Arren couldn’t reply for a few seconds, as though this time he was not only stunned but completely bewildered and surprised by what he asked. Moments later, when he finally responded, there was a giggle in his tone, and it seemed he was also grinning giddily.

"What’s with you?" He paused and then chuckled, "Is my Spade possessed by the affectionate spirit again?"

Spade, who was now sitting comfortably in his seat, grinned as well, Arren was obviously talking about when they were on the island for the first day.

"Where’s my answer?" He didn’t answer Arren’s question but persisted with it, wanting to know if Arren also missed him too. With the omega, he also couldn’t help but be more clingy and needy. That was how much he loved him, Spade never used his authority or even status when he was with Arren, as though he himself forgot about it.

And that was what they were... a couple. Spade extremely longed for it.

Arren’s beautiful laughter drifted in his ears, it was almost intensifying his longing for the omega that Spade held back his words and only admired his omega, waiting for him to respond.

The laughter came off as short, and Arren also smiled from the other end. A bright voice tinged with yearning sounded in Spade’s ears.

"Of course, I missed you. No, that’s not fully expressing my emotions," he paused, taking a deep breath, and continued, "Spade, I missed you so fucking bad. Heck, I almost packed my bags and returned to the palace the damn moment you told me you missed me."

At this answer filled with some cuss words, Spade shook his head and chuckled. This is right, this is the answer I am expecting for.
