Chapter 921: Chapter 205: Climbing the Family Tree_3

Mo Heng was going to stay at home for a few more days this time, and he took over the business talks with Dan Yefei, which Pei Qin had handled before. He also learned more about the matters of the Transport Gang.

Two days later, Dan Yefei stayed to help Pei Qin keep an eye out for suitable shops, saying he would write to her if he found an appropriate business opportunity, before leaving Yuanyang County.

On this visit, Mo Heng brought back quite a few specialties, packed two portions, and went to Fang Family Village to visit relatives.

Seeing him return, both Old Scholar Fang and Grandma Fang, Lady Yu, were very happy. They hurriedly butchered meat and chickens, asking whether he would stay or was coming back to take Mother Peiqin and the children to his post.

"Xining is on the frontier, and there are frequent uprisings. It’s still not stable at the moment. After it’s pacified and stable next year, I’ll bring Qinqin and the others along!" Mo Heng explained.

Grandma Fang’s face was still smiling, but her heart felt some disappointment. He had grown up so handsome, like a Celestial God. With Qinqin’s mother and sisters not by his side, it was hard to guarantee he wouldn’t be tempted to stray, with shameless women throwing themselves at him.

Old Scholar Fang could tell what she was thinking and said, "Mo Heng is stationed in the military camp. How could there be women following him there?"

Grandma Fang nodded her agreement hurriedly.

However, Lady Yu thought about it, weren’t there military prostitutes in the military camp? Then she shook her head, feeling that her thoughts, influenced by Fang Li’s drug dealings, were always pessimistic. Mo Heng was still so good to Qinqin, so he wouldn’t have a change of heart.

After visiting relatives in Fang Family Village, he went back home and then to Qinghe Town.

Zhao Xiaochen had just been to the Xining Guard not long ago, and Mo Heng did not bring him back this time.

Madam Zhao and Old Master Zhao sighed with relief when they heard their son was not sent to the battlefield, "Xiao Chen is with you, and we feel more at ease! Otherwise, going so far to a frontier, it’s just too worrisome!"

Mo Heng nodded, "Although they’re training continuously in the guard station, it would still take a year of experience to be ready for the battlefield."

Pei Yuan, hearing he had already seen combat and even been promoted to a Seventh-rank Deputy General for his martial arts achievements, thought he had come back for the explosives. She hinted a few times that he shouldn’t expose his sister. They all knew martial arts and were in the military camp, but his sister was a weak woman. It would be terrible if someone targeted her.

What Mo Heng brought was useless to him now, as he was currently cultivating his own trusted followers to continue the research in private, shifting everything from Pei Qin to himself. Even though Liang San knew the basics, he could still defend against it, preventing others from coveting.

Having just returned home after visiting relatives, he saw that guests had arrived.

Seeing the visitor, Pei Qin was instantly overjoyed, "Lu Hai!?"

The person indeed was Lu Hai, who had been undercover in Liaoning for over three years. Except for being tanned and looking slightly unwell from the journey, he was the same as before, even wearing the clothes he loved and looking at Pei Qin with unchanged eyes. He had the expression of someone who couldn’t believe she was still alive and causing trouble.

"Shen Songming released you to me?" Pei Qin reached out to grasp her arm.

Lu Hai thought for a moment and then nodded, "The matter in Liaoning is finished, and Young Master Shen sent me back."

Pei Qin hugged her shoulder and cheered, "Now you are my person!" She had always suspected that Liu Feng was not mute, just unwilling to talk to her; although Lu Hai was also not talkative, at least they had a good old friendship and could understand each other.

Lu Hai complied and glanced at Mo Heng, who looked slightly unwell, and bowed in greeting, "Sir Mo!"

Her martial arts skills were strong, and with their past camaraderie, having her by Pei Qin’s side added another layer of protection, and he could be more at ease. But the thought of Lu Hai previously being under Shen Songming’s command left him feeling uneasy. Nevertheless, Lu Hai’s withdrawal from Liaoning meant her mission there was certainly complete.

Lu Hai had investigated everything that was asked of her, and had set up all her networks. Now, they just waited for things to unfold. Shen Songming had let her withdraw earlier, asking her whether she wanted to follow him and her brother, or return to Pei Qin’s side. Lu Hai didn’t wish to follow him; though Pei Qin could be exasperating at times, she preferred to stay with her.

Pei Qin then remembered to ask, "Where has Shen Songming gone now?"

Lu Hai’s eyes flickered slightly, "He should be at the Cheli Office now."

"What place is that?" Pei Qin frowned.

"He’s gone to Vietnam to mine for jadeite," Lu Hai replied.

Shen Songming’s use of the explosives had been exposed, and as soon as he was compromised, a message was sent, instructing Lu Hai to leave Liaoning early and arrange for her transfer to Pei Qin’s side.

"Crap! He’s lost it!" Pei Qin slammed her palm on the table.

Mo Heng’s expression changed immediately, his gaze darkening as he looked at Lu Hai. Shen Songming going to Vietnam suggested the exposure of the explosives. It seemed he needed to advance his plans!
