Chapter 882: Chapter 193: Scratching the Face
Pei Qian watched as Fang Hui, puffing out her chest, charged toward her, shouting that she’d be beaten to death. Pei Qian thought Fang Hui was faking to accuse her falsely, but suddenly, Fang Hui reached out and scratched her face. With a quick turn of her head, Pei Qian reached out and grabbed Fang Hui’s hand.
Fang Hui was deliberate, her movements both fast and vicious as she viciously clawed at Pei Qian’s face.
A stinging pain flashed across her face, and Pei Qian gasped for air. Touching her cheek, she felt blood—three claw marks, with one particularly deep and bleeding profusely, caused severe pain.
Hong Xia immediately rushed over and with a fierce push, sent Fang Hui tumbling to the ground, "You old hussy! How dare you strike our young mistress!?"
But Fang Hui, though she had struck someone, was braced for retaliation. As Hong Xia pushed her to the ground, Fang Hui grabbed Hong Xia’s hair and yanked hard.
Hong Xia cried out and fell to the ground along with her, grinding her teeth in fury. She reached out and grabbed Fang Hui’s hair, punching her in the face.
She was just a teenager, even as a servant who had never done heavy labor, how could she rival Fang Hui?
Although Fang Hui seldom got into fights, she was fierce by nature and deliberate in her action. She held on to Hong Xia’s hair tightly, scratching her face viciously while screaming, "Murder! The niece has killed her aunt! Help, I’m being killed!"
Seeing that Pei Qian had been scratched, the men who came with her, including Sun Erlang, stopped smashing things and intervened, "What kind of wicked and vile woman are you, clawing at people’s faces!? Now that our mistress’s face is scarred, can you afford to compensate, you wretched old hag!?"
Sun Erlang and his men grabbed her arms, lifting her up and preventing her from fighting back.
Hong Xia extricated herself, losing a clump of hair to the violent tugging, her scalp throbbing with pain, and her neck bore scratch marks as well, with the corner of her mouth also cut and bleeding. Seeing Sun Erlang and the others holding Fang Hui back, Hong Xia, fueled by hatred, slapped Fang Hui across the face twice with great force. She had harbored deep resentment towards this vile person ever since the incident with the smashed jade cabbage!
Slap—Slap—
After receiving two loud slaps, Fang Hui let out a howl and cursed, "I’m being killed! My niece brought people to smash my house, killing her aunt! Help! You wretched brat, you’re killing me! You ill-bred little shrew, how dare you strike me? Go ahead, kill me—I dare you! If you don’t kill me, you’ll regret it!"
Pei Qian, who had a fair complexion, now bore three prominent bloody slashes on her left cheek. Looking at the blood on her hands, she glared at Fang Hui with a rage-filled gaze, "Murder? You refuse to repay your debts, sell my family’s spicy cabbage under the table, and you struck first. Yet you dare cry out that you’ve been hit? Today, I’ll accept that reputation—if I don’t give you a real beating, then I am not Pei Qian!"
The villagers from the Feng Family Estate watched her about to strike and dared not intervene, but they anxiously advised her, "You’re the younger one, you mustn’t really strike her! If there’s an issue, speak about it calmly. If talking doesn’t work, go to your grandfather. You mustn’t actually hit anyone!"
"No matter how angry or annoyed you are as a junior, if you really hit your elder, you won’t be able to clear your name!"
While the crowd urged restraint, Fang Hui struggled and insulted Pei Qian further with foul language, challenging Pei Qian to beat her to death, or it wouldn’t end.
Some older villagers couldn’t stand it any longer, "Stop the cursing! We’re all family here. Isn’t there a way you can work things out without resorting to this? Is it right for an aunt to say such things, claiming to be raised without a mother’s teachings?"
Pei Qian sneered, "Stirring up trouble because I’m about to get married? You think I’m afraid of you!?" She moved to hit Fang Hui.
The elderly woman trying to mediate stepped in and held Pei Qian back, "No matter how unreasonable she is, she’s still your aunt, your elder. You mustn’t hit her! Once you do, things will get messy!"
"When our family didn’t have money to eat and lived in a cave, I never heard of having such an aunt! Isn’t it true that we’ve suddenly got this relative now that our family has made money and prospered? How much has she benefited from us, yet she’s still insatiable, tarnishing our reputation behind our backs, even selling our family’s spicy cabbage recipe! I’ve never seen such an elder before! And we don’t want an aunt like that!" Pei Qian snarled through clenched teeth.
"But you still can’t hit her! If you do, it’ll stick to you," said the old woman, preventing her. "You’ve already smashed up her home and had your outburst. Anything else you want to say can be taken up with your grandfather directly!"
Fang Hui continued her provocations, cursing with vile words, shouting at Pei Qian to have the guts to beat her to death, otherwise, it would never be over.
Although Hong Xia wanted to punch her, she was worried about the wound on Pei Qian’s face, "Miss! The cut on your face is so bad, and there’s so much blood; you must be disfigured. We should hurry back and see a doctor!" The young miss was to become an officer’s wife; if she were disfigured, Old Master Fang would have even more reason to call off the engagement.
