Chapter 86: Chapter 86: Visiting to Catch the Autumn Breeze (2)_1

Grandma Miao and her two daughters-in-law came uninvited, clinging to the desire to see what they had bought.

"What are you looking at! It’s our family’s stuff, what’s there for you to see!" Si Ya was fuming with anger and her words came out rudely.

"Just looking at what fine things you bought, why are you so fierce, girl, as if stepped on!" Grandma Miao said displeasedly, her eyes dangling.

"Whatever we bought is none of your business!" Si Ya retorted sharply, putting the items into the house and slamming the door shut with a bang.

"Oh! I didn’t realize before, but our Si Ya really has quite the fiery temper!" A round-eyed daughter-in-law said with a laugh.

Lady Fang felt a bit awkward, not knowing what to say to them.

Grandma Miao then inquired again about where the bamboo rats were easy to catch, how they caught them, what price they sold for, and most importantly, how much they had bought them for!?

"We caught them up in the mountains. In the county town, they go for ten coins per catty. If you catch some, just go sell them in the county town too!" That was all Lady Fang was willing to say.

Grandma Miao asked repeatedly, but seeing that Lady Fang wasn’t forthcoming, and considering the previous rumors about Pei Qin hitting someone and wielding a kitchen knife to make a scene at Old Pei’s House because the legal wife Lady Chen was hiding private money, she left feeling somewhat disappointed and unsatisfied. She loaded her lips with a touch of dissatisfaction and left.

"Go chop some firewood and bring it back!" Pei Qin decided to test the new chopper she’d bought.

"I’ll go with Eldest Sister!" San Ya quickly grabbed a rope and a basket.

After thinking for a moment, Lady Fang asked Si Ya and Pei Wendong to stay at home to watch the place, while she went with them to carry back firewood.

As soon as they left for the mountain, several adolescents from the village followed behind, some coming right up to inquire where and how they had caught the bamboo rats!?

"Those bamboo rats were alive; who knows where and when they’ll come out. You should look for them in the mornings and evenings; that’s when they’re seen more often!" Pei Qin said, dismissing them in just a few words.

Hearing this, the youngsters thought that if Pei Qin and her family could catch them, then the bamboo rats must be quite dumb, merely appearing in the mornings and evenings, which is why they hadn’t spotted and caught any before. They resolved to change their hunting times to morning and evening.

Pei Qin chopped two big bundles of firewood, and San Ya also stuffed her woven basket with dry leaves, then the three of them shouldered their load and headed down the mountain.

They caught one of the bamboo rats left from the morning and killed it to stir-fry the meat.

Grandma Miao, attracted by the scent, came over, saying, "Oh my! What meat are you cooking there!? It smells so good it’s wafting across half the village!"

Si Ya didn’t open the door for her, instead bringing the meat inside and urging everyone to start the meal quickly.

A fence only stops gentlemen, not villains.

On one hand, Lady Fang had served the meal, telling Pei Qin and the others to start eating.

On the other hand, Grandma Miao had already made her way into the house, her eyes fixed on the bowl of bamboo rat meat on the table, smacking her lips, "What meat is this that you’ve cooked up! You’ve made such a big bowl of it, life must be awfully good for you! It smells so tantalizing!"

Si Ya, holding a plate, snorted softly, "We are in the middle of eating! Aunty Miao, what are you still doing in our house!?" giving her a direct order to leave.

Grandma Miao was now quite blunt, "This is bamboo rat meat, isn’t it!? Let me have a taste of what it’s like, if it’s even edible. Tomorrow I’ll have our folks get up early and go to the mountain to catch some!"

As she spoke frankly, Lady Fang didn’t know how to refuse. Seeing Grandma Miao holding a potcake, she reluctantly gave her two pieces.

Grandma Miao, still not satisfied, said, "Put a few more pieces on; I can’t taste anything with just this!"

Outside, Pei Wenbo and Lady Zhu also came over with their bowls.
