Chapter 822: Chapter 176: Thick-skinned_2
Grandma Fang told Pei Qian about Fang Liuming being sent away. "Let the second son stay at home! If Dalang goes to Capital Jingcheng and isn’t sent away, by the time you get pregnant, it wouldn’t be too late for him to go to Jingcheng then."
Old Scholar Fang also thought it was feasible, nodding in agreement.
Fang Fu was left at home, while Fang Liuming packed his baggage, taking the servants and the guard to Liu’er Alley to bid farewell.
Pei Qian prepared a bundle for him. "This is for your uncle. If he tells you to eat, just eat a little!"
Fang Liuming was slightly startled, then smiled at her, "Alright! If uncle doesn’t allow it, then I won’t eat." He, seeing her searching gaze, held back a smile, "However, since uncle is not going this time, these goodies are definitely going to benefit me!"
Pei Qian’s expression paused, "Uncle is not going now?"
"Yes! My uncle has been married for a good few years now and has only had Xinxin as a daughter. Grandfather and grandmother have asked him to stay at home and wait until my aunt gets pregnant before leaving," Fang Liuming explained with a smile.
Pei Qian glanced at him, glared, and turned away with a huff.
Fang Liuming stepped closer, "Qianqian! Shall we get married after your hairpinning ceremony?"
Pei Qian immediately frowned. "Elder sister said she would train me for another two years! Why don’t you go talk to elder sister?"
Fang Liuming’s smile immediately turned bitter. "The road is long; its repair is faraway." If he couldn’t convince her here, convincing elder sister was even less likely.
Pei Qian eyed him sideways. "Where are you planning to be sent away to? Did your family agree to your being sent away?"
Fang Liuming shook his head, earnestly saying, "Actually, you want to ask if it’s precisely because of that I’m being sent away, right?"
Pei Qian’s face immediately turned sour.
Fang Liuming pursed his lips and smiled, "Don’t worry, whether I stay in Jingcheng or get sent away, I won’t do anything to betray you!"
"Get lost!" Pei Qian yelled at him irritably, yet her face blushingly turned red.
Seeing her blushing face, Fang Liuming just looked at her and smiled.
Pei Qian turned and walked away.
Fang Liuming had to hit the road, so he didn’t tease her further, "I will send you a letter when I get there."
Pei Qin had nothing much to instruct, just one sentence, "Before you mess around outside, remember to break off the engagement first."
Fang Liuming was embarrassed, "Cousin! My heart is not stone, it’s unchangeable!"
"Water dripping wears away stone, it will erode eventually!" Pei Qin retorted.
Fang Liuming’s mouth twitched, "Cousin, take care!" Without promising anything else, he bade farewell to Mo Heng and then set off on his journey.
The Lantern Festival was just a few days away.
Soon after the fifteenth, Chang Yonglin came to Liu’er Alley, where Mo Heng gave him special training.
Pei Wendong and Xiao Yong also listened on the side, following him for a training session.
Li Baoxiang came over to consult about scholarly matters, seeing that Pei Wendong and Chang Yonglin were all at home, not attending county school, "Are you doing pre-event training?" Before Fang Liuming went on stage, Mo Heng used to take him daily to teach, study, and analyze strategies for special training.
"I, like you, have written new strategies and have come to consult brother-in-law Qin," Chang Yonglin smiled.
Li Baoxiang cast a doubtful glance at Pei Wendong and Xiao Yong. Seeing that both of them were also there, it couldn’t just be for discussing strategies; they simply didn’t appreciate him and didn’t want to teach him as well.
While listening to Mo Heng’s explanations, Li Baoxiang was serious but could not concentrate anymore. His heart couldn’t stop churning with rage and anger. If not for Fang Liuming, he wouldn’t have broken his arm, nor would he still be unable to achieve any scholarly title.
Chang Yonglin signalled Pei Wendong with his eyes; Li Baoxiang, failing to pass the exams again this year, grew even more resentful.
Pei Wendong looked at Li Baoxiang, then at Mo Heng, realizing that elder brother-in-law didn’t want to teach him, simply because he didn’t want to see him boast.
After listening, Li Baoxiang once again requested to be taught together, "... If I have just a bit more breakthrough, this year’s spring exam will be no issue."
Mo Heng looked at him coldly for a while, "Then find a place to stay in town, come over for four hours every day."
Upon hearing this, Li Baoxiang’s eyes brightened, yet, "Is Yonglin also staying for special training? I’ll stay with him..." He didn’t finish his sentence upon seeing Mo Heng flipping through a book, then awkwardly changed his words, "I’ll also train with him, and I’m sure I’ll pass this year’s spring exam!"
"Hmm," Mo Heng responded indifferently.
Li Baoxiang quickly went home to pack, then rented a room in town.
Grandma Li and Old Man Li escorted him there, complaining in their conversation why Pei Qin wouldn’t let Li Baoxiang stay at Liu’er Alley, "... With so many rooms available, they wouldn’t even let our Bao Xiang stay in one, still looking down on us! When they were driven out of Old Pei’s House before, they had nowhere to go, and now that they are capable, they look down on us!"
