Chapter 550: Chapter 550 Disgraced (2)_1

"Mo Heng, damn it!" Pei Qin grumbled, holding back the heat in her flushed face.

He chuckled softly, leaned in, and gently nibbled on her chapped lips.

"I’m starving!" Pei Qin pushed his face away. Her stomach had been growling for a while now, she was famished!

"Alright!" Mo Heng looked at her anger-filled but still stunningly charming face, thought of her breathy whimpers beneath him, and deepened the pressure of his lips and teeth, kissing her again before he went to bring in some food and nourishing soup.

When the senior students from the county school came over to invite Mo Heng to teach there, Pei Qin sat by, determined not to make a peep or utter a single word of support.

In the end, she could only watch with regret as Mo Heng coldly declined the invitation, and then watch the senior student leave Taiping Town with a face full of disappointment.

"The sweet potatoes are planted, it’s time to extract the soy sauce now, isn’t it?" Seeing her expression, Mo Heng knew she was disappointed he wasn’t going to be farther away from her and he snorted softly to himself.

Pei Qin turned her head to look at him and nodded, "It’s going to be busy!"

So Mo Heng followed her to the workshop to get busy.

Seeing that he was with Pei Qin in the workshop every day and even declined the invitation from the county school, the folks from the school realized there was no hope in getting him to teach there and began to cozy up to Pei Wendong and Chang Yonglin, hoping to curry favor and perhaps snag a lesson or two in the future.

For several days in a row, the two men came home with little snacks and trinkets. There were also people who heard that Pei Qin liked elm seeds and locust flowers, and since the season for elm seeds had passed, they snapped up a bunch of tender locust sprouts and brought them over without any particular reason, just to offer a handful of vegetables.

The Wang family was already pushing, and apart from meal times, Pei Qin was always in the workshop. So those people would choose meal times to come over, drop off a handful of vegetables, and leave.

Pei Qian was quite unhappy, "These people are bringing gifts now, but they’ll likely come knocking with requests later. You still accept their stuff!"

"When they come asking for favors later, we just turn them down flat, and then they’ll stop bringing things, won’t they? Besides, I’d rather not have to keep arguing non-stop just to turn people down repeatedly," Pei Qin replied, more annoyed by the thought.

"You have a point!" Unable to argue, Pei Qian huffed and went to check on the soy sauce with a sullen face.

The freshly extracted soy sauce was cooling in the large jars, waiting to be properly sealed with wax oil to be ready for shipment and sale.

The Wang family had preordered all the soy sauce. Whatever amount Pei Qin made, they would take it all except for the consignments to Moon Restaurant and Drunken Immortal Tavern, as well as the tribute she had previously signed to send into the palace.

Seeing the soy sauce taken away by the people from the Wang family, Mo Heng asked Pei Qin when he got home, "Should we open a shop in Capital Jingcheng to sell the soy sauce?"

"That’s exactly what I was thinking..." Pei Qin widened her eyes at him.

Mo Heng smiled at her, "I happen to have someone heading to the capital, they could help you manage the shop."

Pei Qin’s lips twitched slightly. So, he planned on turning her soy sauce shop into some sort of stronghold? But she did indeed need to extend her reach to Capital Jingcheng.

She wrote to Shen Songming; without going through his hands, Pei Qin asked the Melon Kid, Chen Gua, from Tian Zhuang, along with another young man, Cui Liang, if they were willing to go to the capital to help her manage the shop. She then sent the two with a merchant caravan heading to the capital, along with two large carts full of soy sauce.

Li Baolian’s wedding date was set, and Sun Xiujin came over to visit her family, stopping by to tell Pei Qin.

Pei Qin had Pei Yuan prepare a piece of cloth as a dowry gift for Li Baolian.

Sun Xiujin, feeling slightly better since the cloth was not as fine as the one she received previously, agreed with a touch of satisfaction. Yet, she felt belittled both by Pei Qin’s view of the Li family and herself. Her eyes fell on Pei Qin’s noticeably pregnant belly and she asked, "When is your due date?"
