Chapter 519: Chapter 519 Peach Blossom Luck (6)_1
"Let’s see first," Old Scholar Fang didn’t say much.
Seeing that he had not yet decided, Lady Yu did not know what to say either. After all, one must weigh their options and choose a virtuous and capable wife.
From start to finish, Fang Liuming couldn’t get a word in and had no say in the matter.
After seeing Old Scholar Fang and the others out, Pei Qin patted him and said, "Don’t think too much about it for now. Focus on your studies and aim for next spring’s examinations!"
"Yes, Cousin! I will definitely study hard and aim for next spring’s examinations!" Fang Liuming nodded earnestly. In this household, it was the cousin who was in charge.
When Pei Qin returned to her room and saw Mo Heng leaning on the chair sipping soup and looking fairly well, she asked, "Finish the soup and then take a nap?"
"Not sleepy," Mo Heng said as he set down the soup bowl and reached out to pull her in.
Pei Qin saw that he had pulled her to sit on his lap and her mouth twitched slightly as she asked him, "Does Fang Liuming have a chance in the spring examination?"
"Six out of ten chances. If Wu Dongsi doesn’t leave, it increases to eight," Mo Heng wrapped his arms around her waist, drawing her close.
Pei Qin frowned. "The droughts in several places this year will cause a significant reduction in next year’s wheat harvest; Wu Dongsi will likely be transferred."
"I can teach him," Mo Heng said with a smile as he looked at her.
Pei Qin looked him up and down, "What are you planning?" It would certainly be beneficial to have him, the young scholar, as a tutor.
Mo Heng shook his head, his eyes full of innocence.
Pei Qin didn’t believe him. "Out with it!"
"Really, there’s nothing," Mo Heng insisted earnestly.
"Alright," Pei Qin nodded.
"You give me a kiss, and I teach him once," Mo Heng added.
Pei Qin rolled her eyes toward the ceiling, speechless. So much for there being ’nothing’.
"That doesn’t count," Mo Heng tightened his embrace.
Pei Qin said no more and just kissed him! No matter how insatiable he was, a kiss was all he could get.
Mo Heng had Fang Liuming cancel his afternoon lessons to come over and listen to his teaching while he provided guidance on composing essays.
Li Baoxiang couldn’t find Fang Liuming at the school and, looking for him, came to Liu’er Alley. Finding an opportunity, he decided not to leave and asked Mo Heng to also give some pointers on his essays since he found that aspect rather challenging, along with poetry.
Mo Heng’s attitude was indifferent, but he didn’t refuse the request to listen in.
Seeing that he was just as cool toward Fang Liuming, Li Baoxiang felt much better and immediately bought some pastries and meat to present to Mo Heng as a gift. He didn’t mind the giving, but it seemed like an act of acknowledging a teacher, and Mo Heng looked even younger than him.
Fang Liuming’s attitude, however, was filled with respect. Mo Heng was teaching him and, being his cousin’s husband and having won the county examination at the age of thirteen, the young scholar warranted his esteem.
It wasn’t long before Grandma Li brought her daughter, Li Baolian, over.
They arrived just as the market hadn’t yet closed, and it was also a day off. Li Baoxiang pulled Fang Liuming out to buy ink and paper and invited him to lunch, and in idle conversation, the topic turned to Fang Liuming’s marriage prospects.
Meanwhile, Grandma Li and Li Baolian were shopping on the street when they bumped into them.
Li Baoxiang, who was on brotherly terms with Fang Liuming, naturally introduced them when they met Grandma Li and Li Baolian.
After glancing at Fang Liuming, seeing his refined features, his not too tall but neat and tidy appearance, Li Baolian was quite content. Going along with Li Baoxiang, she called out to "Brother Liuming."
Fang Liuming greeted her politely and then stopped looking at her.
Grandma Li thought he was indeed quite well-mannered; he didn’t ogle her daughter or show off, and she watched with a smile, "Let’s have Liuming over for a meal at our place sometime soon!"
"Of course," Li Baoxiang laughed.
"It’s perfect since the market isn’t over yet. Bao Lian wanted to shop for some things, why don’t you let your brother accompany you to take a look? He will probably be familiar with everything in a few days." Grandma Li smiled and made a sign to her daughter.
