Chapter 503: Chapter 503 Early Birth of a Precious Child (7)_1
Grandma Sun had seen the person but with the bamboo hat on, so she didn’t get a clear look. She huffed, "A face can’t fill a belly anyway! The main thing about Young Master Mo is that he has a good character, and he even saved Xiao Pei’s life!"
The villagers immediately started asking questions upon hearing this.
Grandma Sun curled her lip in the direction of Back Mountain Village, "Someone paid to take out a hit on Xiao Pei; nearly killed the lad. Luckily, Young Master Mo intervened to save him and he narrowly escaped death!"
"What?! A hitman for an assassination!?"
For the common villagers, such matters seemed far too distant. Zhao Junchao and Zhang Shiqian had been arrested previously, accused of involvement in the plot to assassinate Pei Qin, but most people didn’t really believe such an assassination plot actually existed; it felt uncertain to them. They had never imagined that it would really happen again.
"Saving a life warrants marrying him. Xiao Pei and Young Master Mo, it’s like a match made in heaven!" Grandma Sun said with a smile.
The few people crowding around all agreed with energetic nods.
Lady Zou watched from inside the house and sighed at her silent brother, "You’ve been engaged for a year now. You’re certainly not young anymore. You should give up and just get married!"
Zou Xing’s betrothal had been arranged by Old Man Zou and Grandma Zou, and since Pei Qin’s situation was still pending, Zou Xing had been reluctant to marry, and so the matter had dragged on until now.
"You can only be headstrong for so long, you really need to get married soon, or it won’t look good!" Lady Zou said to him.
Zou Xing stood up, "I’m going home for a bit."
"What are you going home for?" Lady Zou asked.
He was already far away, out of the door.
As Pei Qin’s situation improved, he knew that she would never marry someone like him; he wasn’t good enough. But he was stubbornly holding on, watching and waiting. Now, at last, she was getting married to someone else. He had seen Young Master Mo before—handsome, extraordinary in demeanor, and so learned. He couldn’t compare at all. Pei Qin marrying him made sense, they were well-matched, and she would have a good life!
The people at Old Pei’s House were surprised to hear Pei Qin was getting married all of a sudden, so Lady Zhu took the chance to go into town for milling and to gather information about Pei Qin’s wedding.
Although the news had already spread far and wide, the knowledge about Mo Heng was still very limited. Only a few people had actually met him, affirming his handsome and extraordinary presence. They only knew he was Pei Wendong and Chang Yonglin’s teacher, had saved Pei Qin’s life, and the marriage had been discussed since he first requested her hand.
"Who knows what kind of guy she’s actually ending up with!" Pei Wenlee said through gritted teeth, seething with anger.
Speculation about Mo Heng grew, with more and more people coming over to offer congratulations, wanting to help out and hoping to catch a glimpse of him. However, none succeeded because Mo Heng was still recuperating in his room, and nobody was allowed in there.
With both families preparing together, and despite the rush, things were quickly settled with Mo Heng’s planning and the supervision of Old Scholar Fang and Grandma Fang.
Mo Heng spent silver to buy the courtyard behind the house in Liu’er Alley where Pei Qin’s family lived. The house there was newly constructed, hardly a few years old, and was still quite new. Mo Heng gave them silver and also offered his old dwelling in exchange for that courtyard, then had it freshly painted and refurnished. The two adjoining courtyards would form a two-section household which would be large enough for all of them to live comfortably and conveniently together.
When Sun Xiujin came with the trousseau, Shen Songming was there too, and he was in the midst of a staring contest with Pei Wendong, vying for the honor of carrying Pei Qin to her bridal sedan. Seeing Shen Songming who had left and then returned, not angry but rather harmonious, Sun Xiujin’s face took a while to relax, "Wenlee! I’ve come to add to your dowry."
"Thank you!" Pei Qin greeted her and indicated for her to sit.
Sun Xiujin, caressing her swelling belly, sat down and looked towards Shen Songming and Pei Wendong.
"Even if I’m young, I have the strength, I can carry big sister myself!" Pei Wendong insisted on carrying his elder sister to the bridal sedan—she was his dear sister, after all!
