Chapter 469: Chapter 469: Even Became a Father (3)_1
Lu Hai thought she was coming over to pick a fight with the Qian family and, if not a fight, at least to secretly trip them up and watch them stumble.
Pei Qin merely strolled around Runing Prefecture to sell all the soy sauce and took a few orders before heading back home.
Qian Wanxiu immediately had someone check on Pei Qin’s purpose for visiting Runing Prefecture, in case she had done anything detrimental in secret.
Pei Qin was at home, listening to Pei Qian complain about Fang Liuming, "There wouldn’t have been any problems if he hadn’t offered to help! He was supposed to just watch for a couple of days, but no, he comes over for meals every day, as if he’s going to move in! He’s supposed to help, not freeload!"
"Cousin didn’t eat for free; he bought groceries every day he came," Pei Yuan helplessly added.
"You always take his side!" Pei Qian said dissatisfied, glancing at her.
Pei Yuan said no more.
Pei Qin, stroking her chin, sized up Pei Qian, "You seem to have a particular grudge against Fang Liuming!"
"I’m not targeting him! Their family is up to no good, probably plotting the same as the Feng family. He comes over to eat and drink for free and still acts like a good guy!" Pei Qian huffed.
Pei Qin nodded in agreement, "That’s true! Let’s do as you say then!"
By her logic, they shouldn’t bother much with both the Fang and Feng families! Fang Liuming had already taken enough advantage, no need to help him more! As for cutting ties with the Fang family, Pei Qian might think about it, but she also knew that breaking off relations was not realistic, and the Fang family wasn’t entirely worthless.
Seeing that she didn’t say more, Pei Qin chuckled and went about her business, "Hurry up and make your kimchi well! Last year’s feedback wasn’t as good as the year before!"
With a strong competitive spirit, Pei Qian could not accept being worse than others. She had put so much effort into last year’s kimchi, and this year she was even more determined.
The siblings each had their own strengths, but Pei Yuan was the mildest and most virtuous, Pei Qin was tough and capable, Pei Qian was fiery and shrewd, yet Pei Yuan was seen as an excellent choice for a bride.
Just as they settled down, a matchmaker came knocking.
Pei Yuan had turned fifteen after the new year and was of marriageable age.
In Pei Qin’s eyes, Pei Yuan was still a junior high student, a Little Radish, yet the time had come to discuss her marriage, giving Pei Qin the inevitable sense that the Little Radish she had raised was finally grown up and about to be plucked away.
Pei Yuan wasn’t worried about herself. Given their family’s current situation, she didn’t need to marry too well; a decent man would allow her to lead a comfortable life. She was more concerned about her elder sister’s matrimonial prospects.
Pei Qin’s own marriage prospects were still up in the air, causing many to worry. Some even bet whether Pei Qin would marry this year or next, and whether she would wed Shen Songming or go back to marry her cousin Fang Liuming, reserved by the Fang family—especially since Fang Liuming’s visits had become more frequent.
Fang Li, upon hearing the gossip in private, ordered a halt face-front, but internally he was amused, secretly hoping something would happen to Shen Songming so Pei Qin couldn’t marry into the Shen family.
Lady Yu, seeing he still had hopes for Pei Qin, was so annoyed she wouldn’t bother with him much, "You should think more about your daughter’s marriage matters!"
Fang Fang had already lost over ten pounds, her waist a bit slimmer, though not conspicuously so. Lady Yu, not wishing to settle her daughter for less, turned away any potential suitors that weren’t impressive and avoided all inquiries by the matchmakers—what kind of match could she find for her daughter in the future?
Lady Ruan had a younger relative from her maternal family who seemed quite suitable. She thought of asking for Pei Yuan’s hand for him but hesitated. With Fang Fang’s marriage worries at home and her relative being of a suitable age, bypassing Fang Fang to propose for Pei Yuan didn’t seem appropriate.
Seeing Lady Yu talking to Fang Li about Fang Fang’s marital prospects again, Lady Ruan waited for Fang Fu and Mu Xiu to return before mentioning her maternal nephew’s situation, "...Chen Jie, as you know, is not bad-looking and steady. His family might be less well-off than Qinqin’s, but the good thing is Chen Jie is ambitious, and who knows, he might make something significant of himself in the future!"
