Chapter 387: Chapter 387: Don’t Play Intelligence with Mom (1)_1
Pei Qin never expected that after all her hard work cultivating sweet potatoes for two years, the reward would be given to someone else. Someone dared to steal her achievement, and it was those bastards from Old Pei’s House, no less—it nearly blew her lungs out with fury!
Wu Dongsi was utterly dumbfounded. What happened to the promised reward, the swift rise to success? Instead, it went to Old Pei’s House—what the hell was going on? All he received were a few words of praise.
Everyone was shocked and baffled. It should have been Sister Qin and her brother’s reward, so why did it suddenly go to Old Pei’s House? What did this have to do with them? It was clearly Pei Qin and her family who had farmed the sweet potatoes. Even Shen Songming, the son of a Magistrate, confirmed the reward for Pei Qin’s family. It was only a matter of the reward’s size that hadn’t been decided. And now what the heck was this?
Pei Qian was seething with rage, her teeth gritted in fury. She snatched a cleaver from behind the kitchen door, "They must have sabotaged us again! I’ll go and kill their whole bestial family!" She furiously raised the cleaver and charged out.
Pei Yuan cried out in alarm, "Third Sister!"
"Pei Qian! You motherfucker, stop right there!" Pei Qin cursed angrily, grabbing her arm and wrestling the cleaver from her hand.
"I won’t stop! I’m going to kill them! I will slaughter their entire family!" Pei Qian’s eyes were bloodshot with rage, her body trembling uncontrollably as she clung to the cleaver.
Pei Qin couldn’t wrestle it away, no matter how hard she tried.
Pei Qian’s suppressed fury erupted; her eyes nearly bursting with rage, she couldn’t calm her years of resentment unless she killed the people of Old Pei’s House.
Pei Yuan, crying, tried to stop her, "Third Sister! Don’t do anything foolish! Don’t be rash!"
"I must kill them! They drove our mother to death, accused us of being spies from a Foreign country to harm us, and now they’ve stolen our reward! I will kill their whole family!" Pei Qian’s eyes darkened with anger as she cursed through gritted teeth.
Pei Qin let go and stood watching her with a grim face, pointing at the front gate, "Pei Yuan, let her go! Let’s see how many she can kill before she has to pay with her life, and whether the rest of us will have to pay with our lives too! If we all die together, it’s all over!"
Pei Yuan wouldn’t let go, crying and pleading with Pei Qian not to act impulsively, "...a moment of rashness could cost us all dearly!"
Pei Qian trembled with hatred, her ragged breaths and bites on her teeth giving way to the cleaver as she lowered it, crying and cursing, "They all deserve to die! They all deserve to die!"
In her life, what she hated most was Old Pei’s House—she couldn’t bear to see them succeed in the slightest, especially since they stole the Imperial reward they had worked so painstakingly to secure.
Pei Qin reached out her hand to her.
Very reluctantly, Pei Qian handed over the cleaver, "But it was our family’s reward! Our reward!"
Pei Qin did not speak, simply holding her head against her chest and caressing her.
Pei Qian wept bitterly in her arms, still indignant and full of rage, while Pei Yuan could not stop her tears.
Pei Wendong rushed all the way home, only to find them crying their hearts out, "Elder sister..." People on the road had told him their family’s reward was gone, given to Old Pei’s House. Ignoring their looks of surprise and sympathy, he just wanted to know what had happened at home. His elder sister had a fiery temper, and his third sister harbored deep-seated hatred for Old Pei’s House; he feared something bad had happened.
Chang Yonglin was also panting as he ran back, "Sister Qin! Why was the reward given to those bastards from Old Pei’s House!?"
"Stop crying! When trouble arises, we need to think of solutions, not just cry and wail as if that could resolve anything!" Pei Qin said, her face dark with suppressed rage and holding the cleaver—she was even more ready to beat those bastards from Old Pei’s House than Pei Qian was.
Seeing her angry yet composed, having vented their anguish, the rest became a little more tranquil.
Pei Qin placed the cleaver on the table in the main hall and asked the several Little Radish heads to sit down. She began to analyze the situation with the reward, "Although the Shen family is powerful, they are not the only ones in The Imperial Court. They certainly have political rivals. The Qian family managed to connect with the Magistrate of Runing, Meng Dinglun; perhaps they exploited a loophole among the higher-ups. Also, we can’t truly break free from Old Pei’s House—as with the land I wanted to buy, we had to use their names. And then there’s Shen Songming; his unwarranted kindness towards us siblings does not mean that other members of the Shen family will love us as much as he—the rest would rather meddle. Plus, there are other reasons..."
