Chapter 305: Chapter 305: Paving the Way for the Eldest Grandson’s Exam (6)_1

Pei Yuan had no choice but to make her ginger tea to drink. Pei Qian and Pei Wendong, as well as Chang Yonglin, had also drunk it twice to stave off the cold and prevent catching a chill.

For several days, the house was filled with the scent of ginger soup. Pei Qin still sneezed a bit, looking at Pei Yuan and Pei Qian both urging her to see a doctor, she cursed, "Who knows who’s cursing me! It could hardly be a cold, what with you lot plying me with ginger tea for days on end! Keep this up, and I’ll turn into a piece of ginger!"

Seeing that she really didn’t have a fever or a runny nose, they finally let her be.

Pei Qin taught Fang Liuming martial arts and practiced her own skills as well. She had always been robust and seldom fell ill.

Grandma Fang and Lady Yu came over to discuss how to handle Lady Fang’s annual memorial.

Pei Qin didn’t plan to make a big event out of it, just burned some paper offerings, and having a meal together as a family was enough.

Old Scholar Fang felt the same way, thinking it’d be better to hold a grander event next year once the Government Office’s reward had come through.

Even though they said they wouldn’t make a big deal out of it, the number of people to whom they now owed favors had increased since Lady Fang’s death, so they had to provide meals for the visitors. Pei Qin was busy making arrangements when yet another letter from Shen Songming arrived.

This time, it was not just a letter but also included snacks and local products from Capital Jingcheng, and even more surprising, two living people as gifts.

Pei Qin didn’t finish the letter; instead, she just looked at the two newcomers, the corners of her mouth twitching uncontrollably.

The people Shen Songming sent were siblings, the brother named Lu Hao and the sister named Lu Hai. Even though they didn’t carry any weapons, just standing there, one could tell they were trained.

Sister Lu Hai had a cold face and remained silent. It was brother Lu Hao who did the talking. They were indebted to Shen Songming, so they had signed a contract to protect him for five years. With Pei Qin, it was three years.

Pei Qin continued reading the letter. Shen Songming was full of self-praise, boasting about the formidable martial arts of the siblings Lu Hao and Lu Hai, and how they were not to be underestimated. With them as her bodyguards, no one would dare to bother her. He wanted Pei Qin to quickly praise him and thank him properly.

"Is it possible to return them!?" Pei Qin glared at the siblings.

Lu Hao quickly explained, "Ms. Pei! My sister naturally has a chilly demeanor, please don’t take it to heart. We’ve signed a contract with Young Master Shen, and we will protect you wholeheartedly and diligently for the next three years!"

Pei Qin rolled her eyes heavenward, thinking this was not about her safety at all, but rather like planting four extra eyes and ears beside her!

It was only later that Shen Songming thought of it, realizing that now he would have informants close to Pei Qin. Whatever she did, he would know in a timely manner, which made him quite pleased with himself.

Pei Qin refused to sign for the delivery, telling them to go to Shen Songming to fulfill their obligation, implying that coming to her was actually helping Shen Songming take revenge!

Lu Hao then produced a second letter, as instructed by Shen Songming, in case Pei Qin rejected their protection. Lu Hao hadn’t anticipated that she would actually refuse their service, nor could he have guessed how accurately Shen Songming predicted it.

After reading the second letter, Pei Qin’s face grew darker and she gnashed her teeth, "The little bastard! Daring to threaten me now!"

Recalling the ’simple introduction’ Shuang Xi had given him, Lu Hao pursed his lips and said nothing. It seemed that Ms. Pei was speaking as if her son was coercively seducing his own mother. Awkward!

Pei Qin called Pei Yuan and Pei Qian to clean up rooms for the siblings to stay in. The workshop was finished, and the beans and sweet potatoes had been moved there, opening up two rooms in the house.

Both siblings declined help and cleaned up the rooms on their own. Lu Hai took the room closer to Pei Qin and would follow her whenever she went out, ensuring close protection. On the other hand, Lu Hao was responsible for the duties of the Protector.

When they went out to the stall to grill sesame pancakes, Pei Qin, Pei Yuan, and Pei Qian were busy at the stand, and Lu Hai stood not far behind, almost motionless and silent, just watching. When Pei Qin went to the workshop, Lu Hai followed silently behind.
