Chapter 168: Chapter 168: You Will Lose Completely (4)_1

Grandma Sun also sensed something was amiss. "Xiao Pei, if you’re hurting, just cry it out! It’ll be better once you cry!"

"There’s nothing worth crying about," Pei Qin murmured softly.

"Xiao Pei..." Grandma Sun said, her aged eyes brimming with tears.

Pei Qin stood up and bowed to Sun Tiezhu and Zou Xing. "Please, lend a hand to help bury my mother."

"Of course!" Sun Tiezhu’s eyes were red as he responded. He then asked her, "Where do you want to bury her?"

"On the mountain," Pei Qin said and called San Ya over with several others to lead the way to the mountain above Back Mountain Village.

The boss, out of kindness, tore a piece of mourning cloth for each of the siblings, tied it on their heads, and bound hemp ropes around their waists.

The villagers saw the siblings, covered in hemp and mourning cloth, pulling Lady Fang’s coffin back. They also saw Sun Tiezhu and about seven or eight stout men following them and thought there was going to be a fight.

However, the Hearse went all the way to the foot of the mountain.

Sun Tiezhu and Zou Xing, along with a few others, carried the coffin up the mountain.

They dug a grave next to a pine tree that Pei Qin had pointed to.

Grandma Sun asked Pei Qin, "Should we inform your Grandfather’s family?" Even though Old Scholar Fang had disowned his daughter, if the issues with Jian Xiao were covered up, and now that Lady Fang had died, leaving only Sister Peiqin and a few children behind, the Fang family surely wouldn’t completely ignore the situation.

"There’s no need," Pei Qin replied, not wanting to deal with the Fang family’s people. She grabbed some soil and threw it onto the coffin, sealing the grave.

San Ya and Pei Wendong started wailing loudly, and Si Ya also cried, her face streaked with tears. Snow had fallen on everyone’s heads.

Pei Qin calmly stood up and offered money to Sun Tiezhu and Zou Xing as well as the others.

They all refused at first.

"It’s not proper to carry a coffin without accepting a gratuity," Pei Qin said, and the men accepted the money.

"Xiao Pei! You surely won’t be staying in Back Mountain Village much longer! Why don’t you come stay at my place for now?" Grandma Sun urged, grasping her hand.

"You’ve helped us a lot already," Pei Qin shook her head, thanked them, and asked them to return home.

Grandma Sun was truly worried for Pei Qin and the children. Although Pei Qin seemed composed, she could sometimes be impulsive. Her mother had died by crashing into the Pei family’s entrance, leaving a blood letter that the Pei family had snatched away. Grandma Sun feared Pei Qin might do something rash in her impulsiveness.

Pei Qin was not in that frame of mind. She thanked Grandma Sun and took San Ya, Si Ya, and Pei Wendong back to the village.

Grandma Sun wanted to find out what secrets the blood letter contained, but the villagers were illiterate. They were curious too, yet they couldn’t read it, and Pei Lizheng wasn’t willing to disclose its contents.

After asking over a dozen people, none of whom could read, Grandma Sun concluded she wouldn’t be able to uncover anything.

Zou Xing and Sun Tiezhu considered seeking out Pei Zongli. He wasn’t dead, but he had not returned home sooner; instead, he married a young lady from a wealthy family, had two sons, and only came back now. Upon his return, he drove Pei Qin’s mother to death. How could he still be human!?

"She killed herself! It was her own doing! What does her death have to do with us!? She dies and still manages to make us look bad, to sadden our reputation! Who held a knife against her for Jian Xiao? She was the one who was cheap and lecherous, giving birth over and over – it was her own willing doing!" Lady Zhu shouted furiously.

"Then hand over the blood letter, let’s see what kind of secrets it holds! What are the actual facts!" Zou Xing bellowed in anger.

"You all snatched the blood letter in such a hurry, it’s because you’ve done wrong, you’re guilty! Even the heavens are dropping heavy snow now, aren’t you afraid of retribution!?" Sun Tiezhu also shouted angrily.

Lady Zhu was both frantic and infuriated, her face ashen with rage, "Who the hell are you!? You are in no place to stand up for us here!"

And with that, she began to spout curses and offensive language.

Pei Qin stopped them, expressed her gratitude, and asked them to return home.

Grandma Sun also worried that their strong stance would cause the Pei family to throw more dirt on Pei Qin, so she followed them to the courtyard, urging Pei Qin and her siblings to move to her place. "Our house is big enough, there’s space for you to live! Just move away from here! Don’t ever come back to this place again!"
