Chapter 129: Chapter 129 Burst You (5)_1
Pei Qin packed fewer noodles to sell and was able to head home after the market was over by noon, delighted for the ease.
Seeing their early return to the village, Lady Zhu hummed in disapproval and criticized indirectly.
Despite tears, Lady Fang swallowed them down and, together with Pei Qin, went to the mountains to chop some branches for firewood and haul them home.
The following day, they went to the town to set up their stall as usual.
For several consecutive days, their business slowly improved, and it was soon the market day again. Although there were many skeptical remarks and stares, the number of people eating their dough-based dishes gradually increased.
By the end of the market day, seeing that the large supply of flour they had brought was all sold out, Lady Fang wiped her sweat and sighed in relief. She realized that no matter how tough times were, as long as she gritted her teeth, she could pull through! No matter what others said or how they scolded, they would still come to eat their noodles!
This time Pei Qin brought San Ya and hurriedly made their way to the county town with a handcart. They bought shaobing and buns to eat, then headed straight for the Wang family’s residence.
Wang Ting and Wang Nuo were already waiting, and not just the two of them, but three other boys of similar age as well.
Upon seeing Pei Qin arrive, Wang Ting immediately straightened up, asking her to perform some of her best moves on the skateboard to show off to his friends.
Pei Qin’s mouth twitched slightly. If she didn’t perform, who would buy their skateboards? She took the old one, gave a push with her feet, and like a boat, she shot out straight ahead.
"Jump! Turn! Show them some cool tricks!" Wang Ting commanded from the side, determined to impress his doubting friends.
Pei Qin decided to indulge his desire to show off, skating up to some steps without stopping, jumping up each step with the skateboard, gliding straight out, making a flip, charging forward, encountering more steps but not halting, leaping down to the ground, and smoothly completing a circuit before stopping.
A group of eight or nine-year-old boys watched in stunned disbelief, utterly shocked as they had never seen anyone skateboard like this. Immediately, some kids told Wang Ting they wanted a skateboard too.
"They aren’t on sale in the shop yet. You’ll have to wait until the end of the month to buy one!" If everyone had one, what advantage would he have? They’d have to wait until he mastered his skills—then they could buy their skateboards and learn by following him!
Seeing their envious gazes, Wang Ting felt very smug. Only then did he notice San Ya with the handcart, topped with a tied sack, "Is it River-Fetching Noodles!?"
"They were not tasty, so I didn’t bring any! Fortunately, we sold out of today’s batch!" Pei Qin said with a smile.
Wang Ting’s face turned a bit sour, "I never said they were nasty! Next time you come, you better bring some! I’ll have the butler pay you!"
"Sure!" Pei Qin replied noncommittally but with a polite smile.
Eager to learn, Wang Nuo approached Pei Qin to ask for tips and guidance on her techniques.
Wang Ting, however, stopped Pei Qin from teaching, "Come back in a couple of days! No teaching today!" He didn’t want the others to learn too quickly.
Pei Qin, having other matters to attend to, called San Ya over and left the Wang family residence. They went to a rice and flour shop on the street and bought two bags of white flour and a bunch of seasonings, loaded them on the handcart, and headed to catch a ride.
They hadn’t left the street when someone hailed them. It was a man in his fifties with a big belly.
An attendant called out, "Landlord Chang calls for you, he wants to have a look at that thing you use to carry flour!"
Pei Qin’s eyebrows twitched slightly as she greeted respectfully, "Landlord Chang! This is a handcart—there’s none for sale in the market, and we can’t reveal our secrets to anyone who asks!"
Seeing her apologetic smile, a gleam sparkled in Landlord Chang’s eyes, and he chuckled, "Then how many of these handcarts does your family have? It seems quite convenient for carrying things. If it’s several times cheaper than a cart, it would sell easily!"
"We don’t have many at home, but if Landlord Chang is interested in engaging in this convenient business, you may place an advance order. There are wooden ones and also iron ones. Plus, there’s another more practical type of hand-push cart!" Pei Qin planned on securing the handcart business quickly before any craft-savvy people might get a look and be able to replicate it.
