The dragon's harem -
Chapter 1347 - 1347: Tales of War II
The abominations' goal is to carve a path for Nyar into the universe, while the god's goal is to prevent that. The ultimate goal is for each side to reach the other's ruler. The gods want to kill Nyar, while Nyar aims to capture the current Overgod.
This explanation was the oversimplified concept of the war, but in reality, it's more complicated than that. Arad understood that when Diana showed him another memory of her, one that shocked him.
While Diana spent most of her time alone deep into the abomination territory, this memory was of her fighting in the front lines.
Arad was flying through the dark void. The massive raven wings behind his back spanned several kilometers wide as he ripped through the darkness at harrowing speed. He was heading straight toward a sea of light and fire. Countless stars flashed in the distance, and his sharp eyes could see them.
Those weren't stars- but flashes of magic and chaos burning as the abominations and the forces of the gods clashed. Arad saw a massive void dragon flying above him, even faster than Diana was, even faster than he could ever achieve.
The dragon opened his stomach, and armies of angels flew out of it, bathing the dark void in light and fire. Diana had been one of many angels tasked with protecting the dragon while he delivered the soldiers and supplies to the front lines.
As the dragon was emptying his stomach, a large abomination flew toward it, trying to kill him before all of the soldiers emerged. Of course, the dragon wasn't weak. It was, in fact, far more power than Arad was now.
The void dragon was a greatwyrm void dragon with a body so vast and powerful that it dwarfed many worlds. His mere existence could shatter the fabric of reality in many places. His blinding breath looked like a beam of galactic wrath that consumed the whole abyssal void, but the abomination deflected that breath with his massive arm.
The abomination wasn't any random one. He was one of the special ones born and bred to kill the void dragon and disturb the god's chain of command and supplies.
Many of the angels flew in to protect the void dragon, but their attacks were easily pushed away. The horrid abomination was just far too powerful, too fast, and too cunning for them to catch and kill.
The situation quickly turned desperate, but that was the reason Diana was sent here with them.
She flew at the abomination, spreading all of her wings. While she had only used a pair to arrive here, a Herald of Destruction like her was on the level of an Archon, and she had nine pairs of raven wings. As she manifested them all, her speed easily surpassed both the other angels and the abomination. In the blink of an eye, she arrived at the monster's side and plunged her spear into its chest.
"Protect the dragon! I'll deal with the abominations!" Here, in the vacuum of space, sound didn't exist. Instead, words were exchanged through telepathic links. Everyone heard Daina's words booming inside their heads.
They all had one question in mind. Even Arad was confused about it. She said, abominations, not abomination. He was seeing her memories, but even he couldn't spot where the other creatures were.
It took Arad a few seconds to realize that Daina's words came from experience, not what she was seeing. She only saw one abomination like everyone else, but those attacks never end with just one abomination.
Diana was right. Seconds after her charge, four massive dark shadows emerged in the void.
Black, starry wings, burning green eyes, rotten flesh, and an everlasting dreadful presence. Arad could feel his skin crawling with both disgust and fear when he saw them, dead void dragons moving like zombies, controlled by some horrid horror from the outer world.
Diana didn't seem to even flinch in the face of such horrors. This wasn't her first time facing them, and it probably won't be the last. She flapped her wings and sent a massive wave of divine magic at the dragons while turning to attack the charger first.
From Diana's memories, Arad could understand a few things about the harrowing fight. The abomination charger is what the gods' forces call the suicidal bombers that target the void dragons. That thing was the main threat to the convoy Diana was protecting, so her job was to destroy it first.
The other thing that Arad understood was that those four zombified void dragons were once great wyrms, but when the abomination infected them with whatever horror they had created, their power dropped to the level of wyrms.
The coming battle was just too fast, too violent, and too bright, drowning in the flashes of magic and fire that Arad could barely understand anything, even if he was seeing and feeling things through Diana's memories.
The fight only lasted a minute, but at the end of it, Diana had lost an eye, half of her wings, her left leg, and her right arm. Her stomach was split open, and her intestine dangled down, washed in a stream of burning red blood. But her enemies were dead, destroyed, and their shattered bodies floated in the limitless void, unrecognizable.
Diana removed her hand from Arad's forehead, and he gasped for air. The first thing that flashed through his mind was Damnation. She was a torturer, not a soldier of the abomination army. She was no stronger than a civilian in their ranks, and even she was powerful. He could only imagine how lucky he was, how disastrous it would've been if she could actually fight.
"Are you feeling all right?" Diana looked at Arad with a concerned face. "You're looking pale."
Arad looked at her, "I just realized the fights in the war are far larger in scale than anything I've ever seen."
She blinked, a confused look on her face. "Well, of course, they are larger. The little things that slip through our defenses aren't anywhere near that scary."
"My job is to liberate worlds." Arad looked at the ceiling and laughed, "More like clean up after the army."
Daina laughed, "That's an important job. But I'm sure they've got a good reason for not sending you to the front lines." She looked down at herself, "And here am I." She sighed, "I'm sure me getting recalled back here is some kind of punishment for a failed mission, but I also think Lady Kali- or at least the Overgod had another reason for sending me here."
Arad lifted an eyebrow, "Another reason?"
She smiled, "Since I'm here anyway, how about I put you through the army's drills? Train like all the adult void dragons do when they first arrive at the front lines? Now that I'm mostly free, I can even spend more time focused on turning you into the strongest soldier."
