Chapter 67. Make me trust you.

Chapter 67: 67. Make me trust you.

The gaskiya!!! No way! Did he— "Did you just—"

"Yes, I realized you would refuse to hold it. So I placed it between your legs while you slept."

"You bastard! You pervert!!!" She dived at him with her claws out to destroy him. He was such a mischievous beast, this husband of hers.

"Why are you always so aggressive? At least with this I know you were not lying." He said as he managed to rise to his feet, saving both himself and the gaskiya plant."

"You did not think I was going to believe your word just like that? After all the lies?" He chuckled and it annoyed Neriah that it sounded so damn pleasant. "I personally asked for this from the Royal detector. I cannot trust you Neriah. I hope you understand why." He said and why did those words hurt her so much?

It was only natural that he would not trust her, but why did she hate the sound of it?

"Why? You want me to trust you?" He suddenly asked and Neriah’s eyes stared back at him with a confused expression. Was that what she wanted?

He took a step closer to her and with the hand holding the gaskiya, he touched her cheek. The lights from the gaskiya staining her beautiful face. The blue reflecting in her eyes, mixing with the green there.

He placed a thumb underneath her chin and raised her head to stare at him and he brought his head lower, closer to hers, and he whispered above her lips, "Then make me trust you again, Riah." Riah, the name she had given him that night. Was he mocking her or was he being earnest? "I also want to believe in my wife, Riah." He whispered again, hot breath fanning her lips, washing over her entire being and intoxicating her.

"So make me trust you again." And her eyes closed. Seriously, what was she expecting? She had no idea. But when his lips touched hers, and molded over hers, and with his tongue delved deeper into her mouth, she realized—painfully— that what she expected was this.

His lips on hers. How deliciously enrapturing it was. It wasn’t supposed to be. It wasn’t supposed to be so good! So why was she enjoying this? This was wrong! His hands that were slowly slipping to her side, pressing her waist to his body as he kissed her longer, they were burning her in the most pleasant way.

Think Neriah! You should not be doing this! Think!! Stop it damn it!! Stop! Think of Lyle!!

"Stay away from me!!" She suddenly screamed and pushed him. Maybe she had gained some sort of strength overnight or maybe her push came as a shock to him but she did push him and he staggered backward. Away from her. And she stared at him with tears in her eyes. Her hands holding any part of her body that she could hold. Staring at him like he was the devil himself. Like he was covered in all the sins of the world...

While he just stood there, still holding the gaskiya in his hand, looking at her without saying a single word.

He let out a deep sigh and his hand pushed back some strands of hair that fell to his face. "Rest. Night is approaching. I shall return after checking on everything. Your dinner will be served here. Eat without me. A maid will be sent to draw a bath for you so wash up and do not bother waiting for me." Was he angry? Neriah did not know and the goddess knew she was not concerned either.

He turned around to walk away but as he reached the door and placed his hand on the knob, he paused and turned around again, "I almost forgot, I did not gift you anything for our wedding, so I have prepared a little present for you." He said and the corners of his lips rose in a smile but she could tell the smile did not reach his eyes. "It is a little present that I got so that you do not feel like a single sheep amidst strange goats. I shall send it over to you soon so do let me know tomorrow if you like my present." And with that, he walked out of the room leaving her to herself and the creaking wood.

After a while, she had calmed her racing heart and once again brought out Lyle’s letter and confessed her love for him, telling him she was never going to betray him and was waiting for him to come rescue her.

She poured her heart out to the letter, complaining of her useless husband and how she could not stand the man. After she was satisfied she kissed the letter and kept it safe again.

Like Barak had said, some maids had come and drawn her bath. She could visibly see them shaking like worms bathed in salt. She didn’t even touch them so what was their problem, she wondered. Then she remembered what Barak had told her and she realized her reputation had reached the entire ship. As the mad villainess. They almost looked like they were in front of a demon.

"Are you not going to help me bathe?" She asked as they were already running out.

"F_f_forgive us Your Highness. B_but someone else h_has been assigned to do that." stuttered the maid who seemed like the only one who could talk between the two.

"Alright. Away with you then." She simply said, almost laughing as she saw them scurry out of the room.

As soon as they left the room another knock sounded on the door and Neriah wondered how much this new maid would tremble in front of her.

"You may enter." She answered and the door was pushed open.

"My Lady," Neriah was all ready to dish out a series of reproaching words to whoever had not heard that she was the new mad Villainess in town but before she could do that, the voice sank into her brain. It sank and settled and her heart instantly skipped, her eyes were filled with water as she turned around to look at the person standing by the door.

"Aria!"
