The Dragon Prince's Bride -
Chapter 57. Another attempt.
Chapter 57: 57. Another attempt.
Argh! You damned dragon blood!" Barak heard the disgusting shrieks of the beasts as he slayed them. They were not the first beasts he’d fought. They were not going to be his last. He just had to deal with them quickly and get out of the damned forest.
But maybe it was because he was in their damned forest but it seemed like they multiplied the more he destroyed them. Almost as if for every one he destroyed, four more took its place. He could not fight them alone forever. He knew that for a fact.
They had to run out of there, but... He spared a quick glance at her standing behind a tree. It would be most difficult to run with her. Should he just leave her? She was a little troublesome witch who walked into the forest with her own two legs. And though she had seemed quite happy with his appearance, she didn’t quite seem grateful.
Ah,what was he even thinking? He managed to let out a breath as he sent a fireball flying at one beast going toward her.
"Give up dragon blood! In a different case, you could have won against us as your predecessors have done in the past, but tonight you shall lose. For you are in our home. Your loss shall be inevitable. And your blood although not a delicacy to us shall be spilled on our grounds and—" At that point Barak was sincerely tired of there constant growls and nonsense. All he wanted at that moment was to be out of the cursed forest as quick as possible.
So with quick and bold flick of both his wrist Barak channeled his energy into his wrists and a blazing amount of fire emerged and engolfed the trees and dried leaves before him, setting not only the forest, but the night completely on fire as hee created a brief barrier between them and the bests.
He heard not only the shrieks and screams of the beasts, but the terrified cry of Neriah who seemed more terrified than ever. Well what was she expecting? What other way was he supposed to quickly handle this?
With no time to waste; before the fire grew completely out of control, he rushed to her side, and usually it was discourteous for a dragon blood to release his wings in an elven nation. It was almost considered an sign of hostility, an act of treason.
But at the moment, his desperation to get them out of the damned forest unscathed outweighed his desire to be courteous to the elven kingdom. Running would be an exhausting ordeal for the both of them. Flying was a hundred times faster too. And besides, it was their dear princess in trouble here.
"What are you doing?" She had asked as he took her hand and pulled her close to his body.
"Take a pick, get devoured by the flames and the beasts together or wrap your arms around my neck." He urged and he saw her biting her bottom lip still daring to think about her situation!
The crazy little thing. But as he had expected. She valued her life so she wrapped her hands around his arms, albeit reluctantly.
"Hold on tight." He instructed as she wrapped his chain welding hand around her waist and he could see the awe in her eyes as he spread out his wings. Even he knew the Majesty of his wings. He didn’t need anyone to tell him. But for that brief moment, he enjoyed the look of awe in her as as he flapped his wings and took off in speed, following the trail of the fiery chain as he meandered his way through the woods.
"Dragon blood!!" He could hear the loud cries of the beasts were now chasing him as the flames he had set grew wider and wilder in the forest. "’Tis our ground. You shall not take our prize!" They screamed as they chased after him. Just a little more. Just a little further. He could see the barrier just ahead of them.
He increased his speed and he felt her hold on him tighten as she buried her head into his neck in fear and his sword holding hand pressed upon her head impulsively as if to guard her from her fears. "Almost there." He whispered.
"No!" He heard their screams as he got close rand closer to the barrier. "No!!!" Was the last cry he heard as he stuck his entire body with her in his arms through the barrier and the screams of the beasts echoed throughout the forest with anger.
He reined in his speed and carefully landed them on the ground. And she still held him. Held him tightly. Maybe there was no moon in the sky, or maybe the clouds had covered it up, but the night was dark and quiet. But he preferred this silence to the screams of those annoying beasts.
She still shivered in his arms, still refusing to let him go. First he retracted the fiery chain and sheated his sword, then gently his arms came around her again; momentarily forgetting that all this happened because of her running into thee forest in the first place, he held her, gently so.
"’Tis all well now. Fret no more. You are out of danger." He calmly stroked her hair as he spoke. "You can lift your head." He urged her and reluctantly, slowly, she lifted her head, opening one eye first and then the other. Upon opening both her eyes, she looked around her and her arms instantly flew from his neck to her side as she moved some steps away from him and looked around her even more.
They were really out of the damned forest! Really!!
"Come let us return to the palace. Your wounds should be treated. You are bruised everywhere." He simply said. As much as he wanted to scold her for her stupidity, he could not do that now. He’d save his chastising for later. For now she still looked a tad scared and she was truly injured.
He had told his father he would be back before sunset for the wedding but now the sun was already lost. They were all probably frantically waiting and searching for the both of them at that moment. He’d tell them to reschedule the wedding for tomorrow. She needed to be treated and she needed rest for now.
He led her toward the horse and she quietly let him. He was a bit shocked that she was quietly letting him lead her without a single word of protest. Well, he guessed it was expected seeing she was scared.
Or maybe it was not because of that. Maybe it was something else. Maybe he was wrong about her not feeling remorse for her actions. Maybe she was being quiet because she was already reflecting on her actions.
He thought to himself as she quietly hoisted her atop the back of the horse that still stood there waiting for them, setting her hands firmly on the reins. Seeing that she was carefully seated atop the troublesss animal, he moved to do the same behind her, but a sudden and quick kick of her legs on the horse got the animal sprinting on its heel almost wounding Barak as he quickly staggered out of the way for the horse and it’s crazy rider.
Of course she was still crazy! Of course she felt no remorse!! He hissed as he watched her sprint away with his rented horse! What was he to do with this foolish woman? She clearly just saw him use his wings a while ago so where the hell did she even think she could run off to again this time that he would not catch up with her.
He already opened his wings once already in Elven territory, there was no harm in doing it again. Not when there was a need for him to.
With a quick motion, he let out his wings once again. And with a strkng leap and one mighty flap he was flying above her, watching as she foolishly rode the horse. At least she seemed to be a brilliant rider.
With a quick dive, he reached for her, plucked her from atop the horse and held her in his arms. A series of oaths and harsh curse words followed his action, as well as scratching and fighting from her.
"Let me down you vile beast! You are moron! Let me go! How dare you touch me like this!" She shrieked and cried as she fought his hold. But at that point in time Barak could care less if she screamed her lungs out or cried blood, he had changed his mind. There was no need for her to be treated first. Nor did she need any form of rest.
Obviously she was still strkng enough to run, so she was strong enough to go through with the ceremony. With that thought in mind, he headed straight for the palace knowing fully well that he could provide a solid reason for his spread wings in an elven territory when asked.
