The Dragon Prince's Bride -
Chapter 31. Understand me.
Chapter 31: 31. Understand me.
"And besides, he should pay a price for even daring to look at me more or less touch me. Having him take the fall for this is only a punishment for his sin of lust. He touched me Aria, he touched me first. He forced his mouth upon mine, forced his tongue into my mouth and forcefully took my breasts! What is so wrong if I wish to pay him back for what he had done to me?" It wasn’t all true, but I wasn’t a complete lie either. A bit exaggerated, but she wasn’t lying.
"I am not doing anything wrong. If anyone is to be blamed, then it should be that barbarian for tricking me into going to that room in the first place, and then harassing me, then refusing to let me go! I would never have thought of such a drastic measure if he had not kept me in the first place. So stop looking at me with those big purple eyes like I am the world’s biggest sinner. I have done and I am doing nothing wrong!"
Silence followed her words. Cold, bitter silence.
"My Lady," Aria finally spoke. She exhaled loudly, "what do you plan to do now?" She inquired.
"Nothing. When the time is right, I will go to father and claim that he forced himself upon me." She shrugged and Aria felt a wave of sickening cold sweep up her spine.
"You would lie to your father?" Riri gasped. But it earned the little fairy a death glare from her mistress causing her to run and hide behind Aria.
"Do you have any idea what you are saying, My Lady?" Aria almost screamed, but quickly remembered that she was the maid and Neriah the princess.
"My Lady, your father will bring down the entire Trago Kingdom if he hears that such injustice has been done to his child! This will end up being bigger than you can handle, My Lady." Aria could only wish there was a way to explain to Neriah.
"Father will only be infuriated and he will not marry his daughter off to a kingdom with a man like that. He will chase them away. That is all. It will not cause a war! I am certain he would only ask for the head of the man who dared to touch his beloved daughter."
"And you would allow an innocent man lose his head for your desires to be fulfilled?" Aria asked, she always knew her mistress could be selfish, but not to this point!
"Why do you seem so concerned for this barbarian!" Neriah snapped and Aria flinched in shock. "Who cares if a nameless barbarian loses his head? I would take more heads if it means I can be with Lyle for the rest of my life! Do not try to teach me anything! I do not have to explain anything to you. You are my maid not my mother!"
Yes, a part of her regretted those words only after they had left her lips did she realize what she had said. But she wasn’t wrong, so she wasn’t sorry! She knew she wasn’t wrong, so why should she feel bad?
Aria quickly fell to her knees with her head bowed down very low, "Forgive me, My Lady. I forgot my place. I only said that out of concern for you. I did not mean to offend you." Neriah stared at the center of Aria’s head that was bowed down before her, then her gaze shifted to Riri who just stood behind the bed pole peeping.
She didn’t like treating Aria like this, she was more than her maid, more than her friend, "Stand up Aria." She holds onto her shoulders and helped her to rise to her feet. "All I want is for you to support me. I know how selfish I am sounding right now, but all I want is to be happy." She shrugged.
"Don’t I deserve to be happy? Don’t I deserve to get the marriage of my dreams? Don’t I deserve to live with the man I choose, the man I love? Don’t I deserve to live in bliss?" She was desperate, dangerously so. And Aria could see it. "Don’t I deserve it? Even though it comes at the expense of the life of a worthless barbarian? A barbarian who is less than a beast. I mean, what is one barbarian when it comes to attaining my happiness?"
Her green eyes held a sick expression in them. Aria could see her Lady was going mad. She wished to ask if the barbarian also didn’t deserve to be happy?
But she couldn’t bring herself to say anything more. Not because she feared her mistress, but because she cared for her.
She knew she was desperate... Aria had never experienced love so she could not understand what kind of pain her mistress was going through. So she could only support her. She only pitted the poor barbarian who had fallen prey to her mistress’s schemes. He must have thought he was touching a delicate woman, he didn’t know he’d lose his head for it.
"My Lady, you deserve all the happiness the world can give. And if the world doesn’t give it to you, there is nothing wrong in you taking it." She smiled and added, "By any means possible."
Neriah’s face brightened up and she hugged Aria, "I knew you will always have my back. You are the only one who understands me." She signaled to Riri to join the hug and the fairy did.
"So here’s what is going to happen... On the day the families are to meet, I’d reveal everything to father. Due to the embarrassment and guilt that I was forcefully taken, father would do anything for me. He will punish the barbarian, send the rest of them out of Avelah and when I introduce him to Lyle, he will even be happy that someone wishes to marry me even after being forcefully taken by a barbarian and..."
That night, Neriah explained all her plans over and over to Aria and Riri and they both listened and became accomplices to her impending fraud.
