Chapter 239. She did it.
Chapter 239: 239. She did it.
Could Rakavi’s words be true? Neriah wondered again as Barak kissed her. She wasn’t sure about herself, but if there was one thing she desperately wanted at the moment, it was to alleviate the pain from Barak’s body if she somehow could do it.
So Neriah wanted to try. Even though she didn’t have faith that she could do it, she just wanted to try.
Rakavi said all she had to do was channel her energy into his body the same way she would channel it into a dying or dead plant.
As he kissed her, her hands moved to his chest and she felt him flinch in pain but his lips did not leave hers and following Rakavi’s instructions, she let everything go.
Using his kiss as a means to calm her nerves, Neriah’s eyes remained closed and slowly, she began to connect with nature. Thankfully they were in a forest, albeit a cursed forest, it was still a forest. Elves were stronger amongst plants.
Patiently, she drew in strength, connecting with the wind that shook the leaves, the grounds where the trees sprouted from, every root running deep into the earth, every stem, every branch.
She could feel it all.
Even a single leaf that snapped from a tree branch... She could feel the wind carry that leaf, moving it, slowly swaying it around until finally it touched the ground and at the same time, Neriah’s powers heightened, she could feel it in the tip of her fingers.
Her lashes flipped open and Barak jerked in pain as her fingers pressed upon his wounded flesh. His eyes opened and they were met with flaming green eyes.
The kiss was broken and his wife seemed to have gone into a trance.
But then she whispered some words in ancient Avelian tongue, "Bloom again."
At those words, Barak’s entire body stiffened with immense pain. His head pushed back and his eyes were close to popping out of their sockets. His hands bent backwards and his back and rear-end were pushed up from the ground.
The back of his head pressed into the bed and his feet pressed into the ground. His body formed an arc.
And a loud painful scream tore out of his lips as the bones in his body seemed as though they were being ripped apart. It was like a million needles were being pierced into every part of his body where a wound was located. At the same time it felt like salt was being poured over his open wounds.
The pain was unbearable, he wished to push her hand away from him but his entire body had gone stiff, he could not move a muscle. All he could do was cry out in pain, screaming at the top of his lungs.
Thick balls of sweat trickled down both their bodies and Neriah remained in the trance she had fallen into. Her eyes glowed even brighter with every passing second.
Outside the room, they heard his scream of pain and they all jerked to their feet. Bashan moved to run into the room but Rakavi held him back. Even Botch wanted to break into the room, but Rug held him back saying, "Sometimes complete healing cannot be attained without extreme pain." Mileka did not understand the man’s words and neither did her husband, but they understood he was simply telling them to sit back and do nothing while the prince’s screams grew louder.
And so they all stood on the other side of the door, some biting their nails, others just staring at the door while taking in all the screams of pain that seemed to grow more intense by every passing minute.
Until eventually, the screams stopped. For long minutes, they all stood there still staring at the door, waiting for any more sound to come out.
After waiting for long minutes without still hearing anything, Rakavi, whose hands were shaking, moved toward the door while praying in her heart. She reaches the door and with deep shaky breaths, pushes the door open.
Her eyes shook as she saw them both, on the ground with both their eyes closed. Barak’s back and head rested on the side of the bed and Neriah was nestled in his arms.
At first, a scream almost escaped her mouth as a sudden fear was now enveloping her, but then she looked closer and she saw their chests rising and falling in sync, she listened further and heard the sound of air going in and out of their bodies.
They were breathing...
They were both fine.
Quietly, she back-stepped out of the room and closed the door with even more care before turning around and facing every other person who was looking at her anxiously.
And a wide smile slowly crawls over her face as she stares at her husband and says... "She did it. Neriah did it. She saved him."
...
It wasn’t until hours later, when light had given way to darkness and the sun had given way to the moon did Barak’s eyes open again. And when his lashes opened, the first thing he noticed was the woman in his arms, breathing calmly, fast asleep.
For a moment, his memory failed him. He had forgotten how they ended up in that position.
His hand moved to stroke her sleeping face and he braced himself for the pain he would feel in his shoulder because of the wound he had there. But then his hand touched her face and he felt no pain.
His brows creased and his head turned from the woman whose head was resting on his chest to his shoulder that is supposed to be throbbing with pain. He saw the shoulder, not a scratch was there.
And quickly, the short memory he had skipped came back to him. The way he screamed. The way the pain filled his body, and how in his heart at that moment when the pain was eating every part of his body he had thought to himself, "Did she lie to me again? Is she still trying to kill me? I’m helpless." All those thoughts had filled his head.
But now he could see clearly... the woman in his arms, although at the beginning they had their many differences, at the beginning she had really hated him, but now... she was just his wife.
And she really loved him.
He could not hold back the tears this time. He hated himself for doubting her in that short space of time, and he was so grateful that she wasn’t lying to him again. It would have completely shattered him for eternity if she was trying to kill him again.
His arms wrapped around her sleeping frame and he pulled her body onto his own and placed a long kiss on her head. His tears wet her hair as he whispered, "Thank you. Thank you Riah."
