Chapter 219. Could it be?
Chapter 219: 219. Could it be?
The more he galloped away from her target, the more her anger grew. Her screaming was unending and so were the number of people chasing after them. He was a good fighter, she could tell by the way he had handled the men in that room and also by how he was riding and still effectively dodging their arrows while fighting the ones that got too close to them.
Neriah needed to get away from this man, but the position in which he had put her upon the horse could not allow her much movement. She tried to use her powers, but the fierce strength and fast pace at which the horse was running, would not allow her to focus.
All she could do was scream more and more like a mad woman. "How dare you! How dare you touch me!!" She screamed and wriggled like a worm trying to free itself from salt. The position was very uncomfortable, her entire body was aching and although the Lepron shield was still in effect, she could not help but be worried for her child.
With little to no thought, she tightened her grip on her knife and plunged it right into his thigh. A loud irritated cry escaped his lips and for some weird reason, that cry of pain sounded familiar.
However, before she could dwell on the sound that had escaped the lips of her captor, a hard hand landed on her derriere much to her shock.
But then that shock quickly shifted to rage as she could not believe the nerve of the stranger to touch her in such places and she screamed. "How dare you! How dare you, you bastard!" she pressed her finger into the wound she had just inflicted on him, but she yelped in shock again as his hand landed upon her backside once again.
At that moment, he pulled her dagger out of his thigh and threw it away from her. "No!!" She screamed. It was the dagger she was supposed to use to kill Lyle! That dagger meant so much to her and he just threw it away!
The insolent bastard of a man!
"I swear I will make you pay! Whoever you are, I will not spare you!!" She cried and wiggled. And as she did, she felt something fall from her body but was too angry and in no position to even think what it could be. "I will make you suffer, you bastard. Just wait and see. You will regret touching me." She screamed.
She was screaming because it was the only thing she could do to keep herself from crying. Because she wanted to cry so badly.
She opened her mouth to scream out another word. Some fitting curse words maybe... But the words choked in her throat as hot tears filled her eyes. She couldn’t bring herself to say any more words because she would only end up bawling like a fool.
So she remained silent and cried silently. Thinking to herself that once again, she had failed Barak... Once again, she was not able to keep her promise and that fact pained her greatly.
At some point, Neriah knew the people who were chasing them had relented. At some point she could tell, it was just the two of them silently moving together but still at that same hurried pace.
A captive and a captor.
She knew crying would solve nothing. So she tried her best to stop crying
Instead she began to think. She had to figure out a way to escape this person.
But first thing first, who was this man? What could he want with her? Where was he from and where were they headed? From the color of skin near his ears which were the only visible part of him, he wasn’t an elf. He was a dragon blood. So what could he possibly want with her?
Many questions flowed in and out of her head, but the answers were far from her.
Was he sent by someone? Who could it be? And if he was working alone, why did he come for her? Why did he capture her? Had she probably offended him at one point?
She tried to think, to remember if she had quarreled or abused anyone that would warrant being kidnapped like this, but nothing came to her.
For all her life she could not pinpoint why anyone would capture her. The only person who could have been responsible for such was Lyle, and by the goddess she just saw the man’s wrist being severed from the rest of his body. So it wasn’t Lyle’s doing.
Well, whoever he was, she could not care. Instead, she had to first figure out how to get away from him. Believing that Lyle was somewhat still infatuated with her, she was certain he would still come for her. But she could not just sit back and wait for the man she had intentions of killing to come save her.
They were in a forest, she could see that much but how exactly was she supposed to escape from this man who was so huge!
A thought suddenly rang through her head. The man was almost as huge as her husband.
A sudden knot twisted inside her stomach as she suddenly had this foolish thinking, Could it be him? She already thought his eyes looked familiar for some weird reason.
But she laughed inwardly at her foolishness. She knew she had long lost her mind, but now she was even picturing a total stranger as her husband, seeing his eyes as her husband eyes. She was really going mad. Barak was dead, it had taken her months to finally accept that fact, someone had seen his dead body and stolen his wedding ring from that body. She even had the ring with her.
Barak was dead. This stranger could not be her husband and besides, he was slimmer than her husband too.
Put aside stupid thoughts Neriah, she thought to herself. Put aside stupid thoughts and think of a way to get out of this mess.
