The Dragon Prince's Bride
Chapter 215. He’s alive.

Chapter 215: 215. He’s alive.

Standing in front of the statue of the serpent, Neriah wondered if her letter reached Lyle or not. It was just the second night she would wait near the statue and yet she was uneasy. What if her letter never reached Lyle? Or what if he saw the letter and didn’t believe it? She tried to make it as believable as possible. To tell a good lie, a little truth was needed so she had added in a little of the truth.

But the fact that he was not coming was bothering her terribly. Neriah stared at the statue of the serpent, then she looked around her. For a place that was known as the village of thieves, Bampo was more peaceful than Neriah had expected. In fact nothing seemed out of the ordinary. Everything seemed normal. There were children running around, women and men selling their goods peacefully, even pets were quietly sitting beside their owners. Apart from the fact that the streets were not as lit as the streets of the capital or of fortia, Bampo was a normal place.

Neriah was getting tired of waiting, because although her pregnant form was not visible, she could still feel the weight and it wasn’t easy standing for that long. Also, the night was slowly going to sleep too. Stalls were closing and it was as though another night would go without Lyle coming to her.

Just as she was about to walk away from the statue, a dark silhouette came out of nowhere and she staggered backward, but was quick enough to steady herself. At the same time, she heard a woman cursing out some words. The words caught her attention because they were Avelian. She realized the woman’s bag had been cut and the contents of the bag was rolling on the floor of the street, causing the woman to run around picking them up.

"Come to Borris, tomorrow..." The figure who had almost caused her to fall was speaking. It was a man, she realized, but not the one she was expecting. But it was obvious who had sent him. "By this time tomorrow. He will see you there."

Before Neriah could say a word, the man was gone after saying what he had to and that was when Neriah realized the woman who was picking up her spilled goods had stopped and was staring straight at her with her eyes squinted as though she was trying to figure out something.

Realizing that the woman was most likely Avelian and might somehow recognize her, Neriah instantly covered her head more with her cape and turned to walk away.

"Wait—" The woman said and Neriah, scared of being discovered, used her powers to cause vines to sprout out of the ground, holding down the woman, giving Neriah the time she needed to escape the woman... Whoever she was.

She was close to her mission, she wasn’t going to let anyone or anything come in her way.

...

"MOTHER! FATHER!" Rakavi and Bashan instantly rose to their feet as they heard their daughter calling out their name so firmly.

"Mother! Father!" She cried out again as she barged into the hall, almost running into her mother and father who were fretting and worried about what kind of news she carried that made her scream out their names in such manner.

When they were informed that Neriah had somehow vanished, leaving only a short note of apology to her maid and telling them not to search for her, the whole lot of them were stricken with worry for what a grieving, withdrawn and devastated pregnant widow would do.

Once again, Raknar and Regina had been put in charge of finding her. So Rakavi and Bashan hoped and prayed that the news their daughter brought was a good one.

"Rakima, what is it? Tell me you have good news. Tell me your brother already found her? Did they find Neriah?" Rakavi asked with concern written all over her face.

"No mother, I received no news from Raknar. But you will not believe the news I just received! It is better news!"

"Rakima! What news could be better right now than finding the woman that is carrying the child of your brother!" Bashan raised his voice in a manner that was meant to scold Rakima for seeming to be happy about something that in no way concerned the most important problem they had to tackle at the moment.

Rakima on the other hand did not seem vexed by her father’s harsh tone, instead she grinned brightly and replied, "How about finding the father of the child, himself?!" and Rakavi’s eyes blinked with confusion.

"What are you saying, Rakima?" Bashan asked.

"I am saying, he’s alive!! Mother, father, he’s alive!!" Rakima screamed with souch joy that baffled her parents. They heard her words but they could not comprehend.

"Mother, Father, Barak!! He’s alive. He’s alive! He’s alive!" She screamed.

"Rakima!!" Rakavi roared her name out loud like a wounded lion giving out its last shout, "Do not jest about such matter. I shall punish you severely for such." She warned.

Rakima could understand her Mother’s pain. Indeed when she had received the news too, she had almost sliced the neck of the bearer, that was until she was shown the hand-written letter from Barak.

"Mother, I jest not. Brother is alive. He’s not well but he’s alive." Rakima said and presented a piece of paper to her mother and father. Bashan instantly collected the letter and without even reading its content, the hands of the big man trembled like a leaf just by seeing the writing.

Rakavi collected the paper from the trembling hands of her husband and not only her hands, but all her body trembled and as she staggered, Bashan held her steady.

"T_this can’t be. This can’t be. This is_ this is my son’s... This is the writing of my son." She said with tears in her eyes.

"Indeed mother, it is." Rakima nodded

Rakavi turned to her husband, "Bashan, o_our boy. Our boy, he is—" The words choked her, tears trailed down her eyes as her husband enveloped her in his big arms.

"He’s alive, my love. Our boy... he is alive."
