Chapter 213: 213. First step of the plan.
Neriah still could not believe the effect of the Lepron shield. It was flawless, even to her eyes. When she opened the bag that Rakavi had handed her, it contained a small vial and in the vials was some kind of liquid substance. Instructions on how to use it were written down on a small piece of paper. The instruction stated that she was not to gulp down the entire thing at a go because it might be harmful to the child or mother. Rather three drops was enough to last three days, after the effect of the Lepron shield wore out, then she was allowed to take another three drops. Nothing more. A small straw with a small soft wool wrapped around the tip was to be used to soak up the liquid, that too was placed in the pouch.
It baffled her how the thing worked. She could still feel the weight of carrying a child inside of her, what she could not see was the big round stomach of a normal pregnant woman. The shield somehow not only guards the baby from harm, but also hides it from physical eyes too.
By now, Neriah was certain her escape would have reached the ears of her in-laws. They would be worried sick about her, she knew this because they were kind people. Too kind.
Although she felt sorry for the worry that she would cause them, she wasn’t sorry for what she was about to do. Someone had to make Lyle pay for what he did, and by the heavens if anyone had the right to do that, it was her. If there was anyone who wanted the man dead the most, it was herself.
She also couldn’t risk putting their lives in danger just like what had happened with her husband, so she was going for Lyle on her own. No one else would be able to do it. He was still within Trago, this she was certain of, so she would make him come to her and end him.
Standing about six feet away from the address of the place which Lyle’s man had given her, Neriah took in a deep breath... It was a butcher shop.
She stood with a hood over her head, studying the place and the person running the place. It was an elf, an elf who was almost a dwarf. Bald head, rough facial hair and completely covered in blood of the animals he butchered and sold. He had scars on the left side of his face, like a wild animal had clawed him from his temple down to his chin.
From head to toe he was the kind of person Neriah wouldn’t go close to under name rmal circumstances... But her circumstances stopped being normal the moment she lost her husband.
With one last deep breath, Neriah made her way toward the shop... "Ah, what yah want? A pound? Two pounds? Five? What yah standing around for? If yah not gonna buy, then get out of the way yah blocking potential customers!" His speech was as rude and ugly as he looked.
"The big black bird with no wings." Neriah said, while looking around like a person being chased by something. She had practiced her acting and lying for this moment. She had to start acting desperate from this point on if she wanted Lyle to buy her lies completely.
"What did yah say?"
Neriah opened her mouth again and spoke the words that she had been told to say when she reached here, "I said I want the big black bird with no wings." She looked around her again as she leaned in closer to the butcher table and in a lower tone said, "T_that is what I was told to say. P_please, can you help me meet the prince?" She asked.
At first, the man’s expression darkened as he stared at Neriah as though she had spoken some kind of insult and was trying to figure out what to do with her. Even his hold on his butcher’s knife tightened and for a moment fear gripped Neriah but then he spoke...
"I have been expecting yah, His Highness said you would come..." He whispered back to her and Neriah almost laughed as she realized she was indeed right.
Lyle in his pride and obnoxiousness had believed that she would come back to him, that she would come to be with him. He was foolish to think that way. But at least thanks to his foolishness, her plans would go smoothly.
"Come this way, I will take you to someone who will take you to his—"
"No!" Neriah said the word louder than she had expected to sound. Going straight to him was not her plan. She still had to make him go to Bampo. She wanted to kill him there. Nowhere else.
"I cannot come with you. I am being followed. I do not wish to put the life of my beloved in danger." She lied effortlessly. "Instead, pass him this letter." She said, bringing out a letter from within her cloak. "He will know what to do when he receives this letter." She said and handed him the letter.
"Please, tell him I do not have time. I fear they might catch up to me soon. So tell him to hurry and find me. Please I beg you, and let him know that_ that I love him." She almost choked and gagged on those words, but was wise enough to hold herself back.
"Wait, my lady—"
"May the goddess bless you, fine sir. Goodbye." She gave him no chance to say anything further, she instantly turned her back to him and off she went.
The first step of her plan was set in motion...
The bait was set, all that remained was for Lyle to fall for it and then... "Do not worry, Barak, I will make sure I avenge your death. Even if it is the very last thing I do. Then and only then will I come to you and seek your forgiveness."
