The Dragon Prince's Bride -
Chapter 172. Is it safe to do that when pregnant?
Chapter 172: 172. Is it safe to do that when pregnant?
The days that followed Neriah’s big adventure into the dungeon were rather uneventful and normal. Barak was busy during the day, returning only after the sun had completely died down.
He was busy taking care of the work he had before they left for Fortia, although not many knew about their impending visit to Fortia. Only the members of the royal family knew and they had made fun of the couple, stating that they were finally going on their long overdue honeymoon.
Riri’s anger toward Neriah had vanished as though it was never there and it was evident that her relationship with Barni had returned to how it was because Barni was coming over more often and Riri was disappearing more often too.
Riri was also hanging around Barak more again. When Barak had asked why she had been avoiding him before, all Riri had said was that sometimes fairies just withdrew from others for a certain amount of time and that it was a phase that all fairies passed through. Barak did not seem to believe, but he did not question further too...
Neriah realized she did not feel bad about Riri’s closeness with the little prince or her husband any longer. In fact her heart felt lighter seeing Riri freely moving around again, instead of being locked up in her room all the time.
When she had received the news that Barni had somehow proposed to Riri, Neriah had laughed her heart out. She could not imagine how pained the young prince had been to propose marriage just to keep Riri by his side. The news suddenly made her understand how important the fairy was to the young prince. And it made her feel bad again for splitting them apart in the first place.
The sudden marriage proposal of the prince to Riri was a pleasant shock to her, but what had been more shocking over the past days was Aria’s constant complaint of the prodigal prince. It seemed lately he was the only thing the woman talked about and it was always a complain.
Neriah who had not had a proper chance to talk with the prince after they met at the King’s birthday party, could not say anything about the matter. But according to Aria, the prince was out to kill her and his strategy was death by surprise, by popping out of nowhere.
Everything in the castle was going normal, and it was going to stay that way. All that was left was how she was going to meet with Lyle and end things with him before she and her husband went on their journey to Fortia, which was in two days’ time. So she had to meet with Lyle tomorrow unfailingly.
"Neriah, you seem to be distracted today. Is your tea bad?" The queen asked as she noticed Neriah’s unfocused gaze. "Or is it disturbing you in any way?"
"Oh no mother." Neriah shook her head.
"The tea is as wonderful as always. And it disturbs me in no way or manner." She took her cup to her lips and took a sip, showing Rakavi that she was perfectly okay with the chocolate tea. She never tired of it.
"Indeed. You seem to be able to eat any and everything still. And you also have no reactions whatsoever and it puzzles me greatly. In fact you only radiate brighter as the day goes by." Rakavi said in a serious tone, but the puzzled look on the woman’s face made Neriah blush.
"Oh, you just flatter me. I also feel that it is strange that I am with child. I feel exactly the same, I feel no different and it sometimes makes me doubt the news."
"Is that why you have not shared it with Barak yet?" Rakavi asked. "I assure you, I asked the physician to check it again and again and the results remained the same. I even used my authority as the queen to make the priest use his divine powers to confirm it."
Neriah gasped, "That is possible?"
"Aye, and the answer was the same. You are with child my dear. It is certain, do not doubt it. Your body just reacts differently which I must say again puzzles me greatly." Neriah smiled at the woman’s words. She was glad to be reassured that it wasn’t just a dream.
She was indeed carrying Barak’s child in her womb. Her fingers curled around her stomach as she unintentionally went still, maybe she was trying to feel something. She was not sure what made her go still, but she just paused in the moment with her hand wrapped around her stomach.
"You cannot feel it just yet, Neriah. Soon. Soon it will be kicking so hard that you won’t be able to ignore its existence." Rakavi reassured her as though she had read her mind and Neriah blushed again, realizing that her mother-in-law had somehow read what was in her heart.
"So tell me, why have you not shared the pleasant news with the soon-to-be father?" Rakavi continued the conversation. "I promised to keep it to myself till you told him yourself, so, no one knows about it yet. I am waiting." Rakavi raised her brows, silently asking that Neriah give an answer tti the question she asked.
"Well, I uh, I was going to tell him that day, but then he told me about fortia and—" Neriah paused, biting her lips with a flushed face and Rakavi burst into a pleasant laughter.
"I see." She chuckled, "You want to make it a much more special announcement." Rakavi nodded and smiled, "Well then, take your time. Fortia is the perfect place to share such good news indeed. It has been said to be a place of lovers, so have fun with your lover. You will enjoy it there. I will wait for your return. Then we can share the news with the rest of the family.."
Rakavi saying the word lover, addressing Barak as Neriah’s lover triggered a question that she had almost forgotten she wanted to ask, but didn’t know how to ask it now that she remembered it and had the chance to ask.
"Oh mother, you do not have to wait for our return. I would not mind if you tell the rest of the family about it before our return." Neriah said.
"No, in fact I want you to tell them about it. Like you said, it is a good news indeed and I feel bad keeping it from them. I will share it with Barak in Fortia while mother can tell the rest of the family." Neriah smiled. The truth was she also wanted to see it. Their reactions when they found out about it. She had asked Aria to keep it from Riri for now too. But she was curious to know what they would say and do.
"Are you certain?"
"Aye mother. I would really appreciate it if you tell them in my stead." Neriah nodded.
"Alright then, I will. You go and have a wonderful honeymoon with your lover." Neriah gasped and blushed.
"Mother,it is not a honeymoon!" She said.
"So you say. But we all know it is." Rakavi grinned. She seemed to enjoy teasing her now more than ever. Neriah had no more words to say she just picked up a cookie and gracefully munched on it.
Again, that question came to her mind. Her eyes went to Rakavi but quickly wandered toward the vase of flowers on their table as she realized Rakavi’s eyes were also upon her.
How was a person supposed to ask that question from her husband’s mother?! But she was the wisest woman Neriah knew in the place. Her tutor, Eliza Lazar had gone on some trip so she was nowhere to be found at the moment. Neriah would have asked her instead. But Eliza was a single young woman who was to be sure she would know the answer to Neriah’s pressing question.
Again, she lifted her eyes and they met Rakavi’s, "Neriah just say it or ask it. Whatever is disturbing you, just say it." Rakavi urged and chuckled lightly, "I can tell that you have something to say by the way you keep stealing glances at me every second." Rakavi said as Neriah stared at her as though she had performed some form of magic.
"Well uh," Neriah paused, not wanting to say those words that hung on her tongue. Not even knowing how to let them out if she wished to.
"Go on, say it.
Neriah bit her lips. She had to ask. She could not keep risking their baby if it wasn’t right. So she needed to know. "Is it alright to do that?" Were the words she blurted out with her lips bent to a corner.
"Alright to do what, Neriah?" Rakavi asked with a more puzzled look.
"You know, that thing. Is it right to do that thing when pregnant?"
