Chapter 121. How are your powers?

Chapter 121: 121. How are your powers?

I watched my mother and father. And I’d give everything to have what my mother and father have.’

She thought he was just spouting nonsense then, she did not understand the depths of his words. But after meeting his mother and father, Neriah could finally understand those words fully. She too would give anything to have the kind of love his parents had. And that was why she was doing what she was doing with Lyle. Because only Lyle could give her that sort of love.

"Princess, I see your tragish is getting better and better by the day. If not for your accent, I could have sworn it was a Tragonian who spoke just now." Bashan complimented her and her face flushed a light pink.

"Oh you flatter me, Your Majesty. I know more curse words in Tragish than I do the actual language." She joked and they both laughed. "And it is all thanks to my capable teacher. Eliza has been of great help." She didn’t want to praise the lady but it was true. She could not deny that although quite young, Miss Eliza was in truth a very wonderful teacher.

"Of course. She is from a family of royal scholars and educators after all. Her family has produced lines and lines of competent educators for generations." Rakavi explained and Neriah’s mouth made a silent oh as she shook her head with understanding.

"Her grandmother happened to be my teacher at one time too." Bashan said,

"Very strict woman. She would give me piles and piles of assignments while smiling." He shuddered as though he was actually reliving the experience. "Eliza is like that too!" Neriah gasped. "She gives so many assignments and such short time to turn them in." She complained and it almost felt as though she was actually complaining to her parents.

"Really?" Bashan asked like he would a little child.

"Yes, sometimes I go late into the night doing her assignments. Thank the gods and goddess for Barni who helps me out sometimes. He saves my soul from endless nights of assignments." She had said the words out before she realized she was confessing to actually asking help from a child to do her work.

Pathetic! They would think she was pathetic.

But then she looked at them and they were both laughing. Why were they laughing?

"Really? Barni did tell me he enjoyed doing your assignments with you." Rakavi said and Neriah forced a smile. She should have known that the little man would go on to tell his mother about his visits to her palace. "According to him, and I quote; Sister Neriah is very smart. She is as smart as sister Rakima. But she needs my help. She needs me to put her through everything because I am smarter. End of quote." Rakavi said and caused Bashan to let out a boisterous laughter and Neriah’s cheek flushed even more. At least the boy called her smart.

"If our Barni is willing to help you, then you must have really grown on him." Bashan said.

"Oh no, he just loves my fairy that is why." Neriah said.

"Ah, he also complained about that. In fact he has been complaining about it for a long time. He says he has not spoken to the fairy. He seemed worried. I was going to ask but I forgot. I hope she is alright..." Rakavi asked and Neriah could not think of the right words to use to explain why Riri had been out of sight of all the Tragonians all this while.

Again there was this tug of guilt in her chest. Because of her lie, Riri made it her duty to avoid everyone with brown skin. How was she supposed to rectify this? Because the young prince no longer asked for the fairy, Neriah thought he had forgotten all about Riri. She had no idea that he was still missing her.

"S_she is fine. She just enjoys resting indoors lately." She just could not think of any lie.

"I see. I heard fairies loved flowers. It would have been nice if she could come out more often. She would have more fun outdoors too." Rakavi suggested.

"I_ I will try to make her come out more often." Neriah nodded and forced a smile.

"Ah, talking about flowers. I know the elves have a special gift with plants. How are your powers growing these days princess? Have they improved?" Bashan suddenly asked.

Neriah’s eyes widened at the sudden question. Her powers? All of a sudden? Wait, how did he even know she was having problems with her powers? She had not even thought about her powers in a very long time.

"Darling, how can you ask something like that so bluntly?" Rakavi chastised her husband.

"Oh, was I wrong?" He asked with a faint smile. "Forgive me my dear if it came out wrong. It just happens that when we were about to leave Avelah, your father had requested I take better care of his daughter stating that she was but a child who was yet to unlock her powers properly. So I was just checking to see how much they had grown so I could provide a space in the palace where you could practice your abilities properly. I know my son, he might not know that he is supposed to do these things. So forgive me if you were offended, my dear." Bashan explained and Neriah mouthed another oh.

"I_I was not offended, Your Majesty. I was just surprised that you knew about my inability to fully use my powers." She said with her eyes staring at her cup that was once filled with chocolate tea.

"But to answer your question, they have not improved. Unfortunately it remains the same." Neriah shrugged. She didn’t see any need to tell them that she had not actually tried using her powers in a long time. She knew even though she had tried. It would be a failure again.
