The Dragon King's Hated Bride -
Chapter 89: Conclusion
Chapter 89: Conclusion
>>Aelin
"Why are you standing in my way!?" Drakkar looked at Ariston in disbelief
"Because Aelin is my princess." He answered, "And for all the unfair things that have happened to her, I believe Prince Draegon’s decision is just."
Drakkar was taken aback, "We can find a better solution!" He said after a pause
"A small precious life was already taken," Ariston’s eyes turned cold, "Her child was murdered and you want to find another solution?"
"I-" He paused, "still, my mother wasn’t the murderer," He tried to move ahead but Ariston moved his sword towards his skin. The tip of it pinched Drakkar’s neck and he backed away a little.
"Your mother is an accomplice," Ariston stated
"What?"
"Because of the neglect she intentionally offered the princess, she went through a lot of abuse. None of that would have happened if she was treated like a proper ambassador that she is." Ariston’s voice was colder, "So how dare you say The Queen wasn’t involved. She is the main culprit behind it all. She didn’t even bother to investigate when she heard about the ’MISCARRIAGE’"
Ariston’s words somehow consoled me. His undying loyalty for me made me feel seen.
"S-still," Drakkar said, "A duel to the death is not the answer to this."
"Perhaps," Ariston answered, "But the final decision is of your mother’s."
Drakkar’s golden eyes shook, "You know she won’t back off. It’s against our culture. If she refuses, she will be humiliating herself and no prideful demon will do that." They both stared at each other, "Let me do something about this."
Ariston shook his head, "No,"
"Aris-"
"I accept!" The Queen’s voice roared in the area, making everyone go quiet
"No," A soft word of disbelief escaped Drakkar’s mouth.
All the common demons were present as witness
Darcelle glared at Draegon, but with a challenge thrown to her, she could not refuse it. It would be a dishonor on her demon name.
"Fine," She stepped towards him, "Take the throne if you can."
The moment the words left Darcelle’s mouth, Draegon moved. There was no hesitation, no second of stillness before the storm—just pure, unrelenting force.
Their bodies collided with a thunderous crash, the sheer impact of their power sending a shockwave through the festival grounds. The ground beneath them shattered, cobblestones splitting like cracked glass.
The Queen didn’t falter. She met Draegon’s ferocity with her own, her crimson robes whipping through the air as she twisted away from his claws. She was fast—far faster than I had imagined—but Draegon had the strength of a beast, and he fought like one. Relentless. Unyielding.
A blur of black claws and red flames streaked through the air as Draegon’s talons slashed toward her. Darcelle ducked just in time, her silken robes singed at the edges as his flames roared past her. She retaliated with a precise, lightning-fast strike to his ribs, her nails glinting like daggers.
Draegon snarled, lashing his tail in response. It moved like a whip—cracking against the Queen’s side, sending her flying backward into a stone pillar. The entire structure cracked from the impact.
The demons gathered to witness the battle staggered back, further and further, pushed away by the sheer force of their power.
I could feel it too.
The weight of their fight pressed against my chest, suffocating and wild, as if the very air was straining to hold itself together. It wasn’t just a battle—it was warfare.
I stepped back, my body instinctively bracing for another shockwave.
This isn’t good. At any time I could get something thrown at me like debris. I should move away. But where? Is there something I can do to keep myself safe here?
My mind raced back to the Cosmic Book. I had read about this—how this holy energy could be used as a shield. I had never tried it before, but now, in this moment of chaos, I clasped my hands together and decided to put it to test.
Surprisingly, it wasn’t hard at all.
A golden light flickered before me, protecting me.
I gasped, watching as a faint, translucent barrier shimmered around me. I lifted my hands, feeling the strange warmth of its power.
My power.
A burst of energy rocketed through the battlefield, sending another shockwave through the air. I turned just in time to see Drakkar trying to break through the chaos—his face etched with desperation.
"Stop this! This isn’t the way!" he shouted, attempting to rush forward.
But Ariston blocked him.
Their eyes locked, and for a moment, I saw the raw betrayal in Drakkar’s expression. "Move," he commanded, his voice thick with disbelief.
Ariston didn’t move. His sword remained steady, unwavering.
Drakkar’s hands clenched into fists, his chest heaving with emotion, but he couldn’t get through.
And all around them—
Darcelle and Draegon fought like monsters.
The Queen lunged, her claws igniting with dark energy, swiping for Draegon’s throat. He blocked her with a snarling burst of fire, pushing her back with sheer force. She twisted mid-air, landing with a growl, her crimson eyes burning with defiance.
Draegon’s own wings unfurled, their span casting shadows over the battlefield. His body moved with lethal grace, his every step carrying the weight of his wrath.
He was going to kill her. Any one could see the intent in his actions.
Maybe Darcelle knew it too, but she refused to surrender. Not to him. And so the battle raged on like crazy
***
As I stood there and watched the battle, I thought about what I had learned and all that had been revealed. Draegon and I are different beings, I never would have thought he would kill so many servants for me.
And what do I feel about it. I’m not sure. Although I don’t condone killing, I can’t lie and say I feel bad for any of them... Because I don’t... And part of me feels better knowing that Draegon went to that length for me.
Even now, he was angry on my behalf and now he decided to take another extreme action.
But once again, it involves death and I’m not comfortable with that. I don’t know what to do here and what to think.
In the midst of their battle, in the flurry of flames and claws and flashing fangs—
For the first time after maybe an hour, I recalled that there was another person- no, a monster amongst us.
I turned my gaze to where Alishay had been, but she I didn’t see her
!!?
My eyes went wide. My heart pounded as I searched the crowd, scanning through the clusters of demons who had backed away to give space to the duel between Draegon and Queen Darcelle.
Panic crawled up my spine as my eyes darted through the sea of onlookers, their expressions flickering between awe and horror at the unfolding battle.
Where did she go? I turned in place, frantic, my fingers twitching with the instinct to summon my power. I needed to find her—I needed to stop her.
But before I could move, a deafening crack split the air like a bolt of lightning striking stone. The sheer force of the impact sent a tremor beneath my feet.
!!!
A violent gust of wind followed, sending debris flying and forcing me to shield my face. Gasps and shouts erupted from the crowd, and I turned my head sharply toward the source of the devastation.
All eyes were on the scene before us.
Darcelle lay battered, the once-pristine scales she had hardened to defend herself now cracked and barely holding together. Blood, dark and thick, dripped from her lips as she coughed, her body sprawled in a pit that had formed from the sheer force of Draegon’s attack. He had thrown her so violently that the road beneath her had given way, leaving her half-buried in the rubble.
The Queen groaned, trying to push herself up, but before she could, Draegon was already moving. His wings flared wide as he dropped into the pit, his talons digging into the shattered ground. Without hesitation, he reached down and grabbed her by the throat, lifting her effortlessly from the rubble.
He had taken a lot of damage as well, but it was nothing compared to Darcelle’s terrible state. Her feet dangled above the ground, her hands clawing at his grip, but he was unrelenting.
Draegon’s voice was cold, each word sharp and final. "One last time." He said. "Concede the throne to me."
Even through her pain, the Queen’s glare did not waver. Blood dripped from the corners of her mouth as she forced a bitter smile. "Over my dead body," she rasped.
Fury darkened Draegon’s expression. His grip tightened around her throat, his claws pressing into her skin.
"Draegon, stop!" Drakkar’s voice cut through the charged air, but he was unable to move. Ariston still blocked his path, his sword drawn, his stance unwavering.
Draegon ignored him.
"Draegon!!" Another demon made it to the scene.
Draken. He landed a few meters away from Drakkar, his eyes on his half-brother, "Draegon, don’t!" He took a few steps towards Draegon but Draegon ignored him as well.
Fear began to claw in my chest. Is killing her really the only way here? If Draegon kills Darcelle, clearly he’d make both his brothers his enemy. I don’t want that for him, they get along so well right now!
I’d rather him not throw that away!
Draegon turned his head slightly, his gaze locking onto mine. It was only a second, a brief, weighty moment where our eyes met—his filled with cold resolution, mine with confusion and fear.
What was he thinking? Why was he looking at me now, in this moment?
"Draegon," I called his name softly and I saw the look in his eyes soften ever so slightly too. I wanted to tell him to stop, but then out of nowhere the Queen turned her head to me too. My eyes met hers
"All for this wench?" She said while she was barely breathing in Draegon’s grasp, "A dirty little human who won’t give you anything else but bastards."
Draegon’s eyes traveled back to the Queen, the look in his eyes even more cruel than before.
His decision was made.
With a final exhale, Draegon raised his other hand in the air, his claws getting even bigger
"NO!!!" Draken and Drakkar both screamed at him. All eyes were on him now and since even Ariston got distracted in the moment. Drakkar pushed Ariston aside as he and Draken both ran towards their half-brother.
But they were too late.
Draegon ripped the Queen’s head off of her body, letting her blood splatter everywhere but the most of it stained him.
I couldn’t tear my eyes away even when the sight was so cruelly brutal. Yet the cold indifferent look didn’t leave him even as he threw the Queen’s body away and turned to look at me again.
My breath hitched and my body flinched while my heart pounded in my chest.
And in that moment, I knew I was afraid of him.
Everyone was.
Volume 1- End
Very Important Notice. Please Read
So guys, bad news. I was told this book was not performing good and I should simply wrap it up. When I received the news I was devastated and heartbroken. I had a lot of things planned and there were so many things to explore too.
But I guess my writing was not up to par and even I could tell there wasn’t much response. The view count was barely going up and only two people were commenting. There are barely any reviews on this book too which is very important and needed
Still, I didn’t want to disappoint the people who were reading this book and give it an abrupt ending. Because it wouldn’t make any sense, wrapping it up here was impossible. So I had a talk with my editor and told her I will end the volume and put the book a break to see if people want me to continue the book and if they like it.
I had to speed up the story a little, I hope it wasn’t too obvious. But if you all want the book to continue please comment a lot and leaves a lot of five star reviews too. I will put the book on pause for the month of March and if in that month I see that people do enjoy it, I will talk with my editor and try and ask her to let me continue.
If we receive no response, then I will not write further. I won’t give the book an ending because it is pretty much impossible at this point in the story. And I personally fell like not giving it an abrupt end is a better option because if I do that, It will become a shit ending book.
It was fun to write the first volume though. And I sincerely hope that all of you who read it this far liked it. Let’s see if we get to meet again in this book in April or not. Either way, it was fun.
And Thank you for reading this far.
