The Devil's Son and His Fated Bride
Chapter 75: The Devil’s Tear

Chapter 75: The Devil’s Tear

Ren groaned in pain as she moved; her body ached all over. The earth beneath her was damp and solid. She pressed her arm against the garden floor and sat up straight. "Ah, this burns!" She touched the graze on her neck.

"No poison, though!" She creased her forehead.

’You are here with us.’

The voice echoed softly, breathily. Ren looked around frantically. "Who are you?"

The area was vast and devoid of life. Thick thorns and vines were a few feet away from her, completely encircling the zone.

Her eyes settled on the fountain, which was covered with moss, and lost its actual form. Right next to the fountain, she saw a thick vine, its roots protruding from the ground. On the other side of the fountain, her gaze stopped on the rose.

"This is it, the place where the Rose and the Vine were planted."

’Yes... Yes, that’s us. Help us! Heal us. We tasted your blood. We are now sure.’

"Sure of what?"

"You are her blood!"

This was entirely vague and confusing. Her hands were trembling, cursing herself for being stupid to come without her husband.

"Whose blood?"

"Princess Seraphina she was. Seraphina Dorient. The princess who married the Fallen. The only woman he married to."

Ren was startled; her fear was no longer masking her heart. Instead, astonishment made it race. How many nasty secrets was House Dorient covering—or perhaps even proud of?

"You mean the Demon God?" Her voice quivered.

"Yes, him. He stole us from the high Eden and offered us to her but let us die when she died. We are dying."

Ren felt another pang of sorrow, a deep ache in her heart. She was right; this place was veiled in sorrow. She could sense it with her entire being. But she was weak and couldn’t carelessly release her healing magic; it could burn her if she exceeded certain limits and lost control.

"I’m still weak."

"No!" one of the voices screamed. This voice was rougher—male, perhaps. That must be the Vine.

"Look, I was thinking about healing you even before coming here. But I need training to release my power. I need your help now; in exchange, you will give me the Devil’s Heart flower."

She had to make a deal. Years of decay might have affected these sacred beings, and she couldn’t be reckless enough to let this chance slip through her hands.

Branches moved a few feet away, revealing a row of the Devil’s Heart flowers glowing in the dark. That was it. So much of it.

"We knew it. You came for it. We showed it to you."

The Rose whispered, her voice weak. It seemed she was truly dying. But that was their plan—to let her see the flower. If they truly came from the seventh heaven, they knew secrets. They knew Luther. They knew everything she wanted to know. She had to help them.

"Help us, heal us. We will let you have all of it. If we die, the flower dies. They grew up from the Fallen’s tears for his lover."

"How do you know my ancestor, Seraphina? She was kidnapped and killed. Did the Demon God kidnap and kill her?"

"No, that is a lie. Do you want us to tell you?"

Ren was desperate to hear the truth from them.

"Yes, tell me. I’ll do my best to save you. But I need you to teach me how to do it."

"So we made an oath."

An oath? She hadn’t mentioned an oath. These immortal, heavenly creatures always made oaths and took them very seriously, unlike humans. "Alright, we did?" again another release of power by blood. This was dangerous. She just read about it in the library but they were vague.

"The high saint of Alvonia aimed for the Ruby Throne. King Russell Dorient was desperate not to relinquish. He summoned the Fallen and made a blood oath. In exchange for power and an army to crush the rebellion, he offered his daughter as the Fallen desired. Seraphina was pure, stunning; her heart was even more beautiful and shook the Fallen’s dark heart. The affection was so deep that he offered her this realm, Thegara. She helped people; she gathered the homeless and let them live here. The Fallen grew even more in love, and when she carried his son, he ended all wars for those nine months to keep her safe.

Peace reigned for nine months, chaos subsided, and war vanished from the lands, no blood poured. He offered us to her as a matrimony gift. We grew quickly and heard her laughter. We witnessed them walk through our floral alleys. We worshipped their love and fed on it.

He heard his son Lutherieth calling, summoning him, and left for two days. On the third day, when the princess was walking our paths, the pain intensified. The Fallen’s son was coming into the world. A forbidden son! He brought storms and winds. He brought fire. He ignited jealousy and hatred.

The princess gave birth to her son here. Lutherieth appeared from nowhere. We tried. We tried and fought to save her, but the filthy snake poisoned us. He killed the servants and made us feed on their souls. They are trapped within us. If we die, their souls burn. Seraphina saw the flames of darkness devouring us, and she called her son ’Kaisun’—the King of the Sun. The black snake kidnapped the Fallen’s newborn.

Then the Fallen appeared. He took his lover’s body from here. We begged him to save us, but he didn’t believe us and let us rot. You are her blood. Help us."

Without realizing it, Ren was crying. Kaisun, her husband, was half-human. He had the same blood in his veins. Ren clenched her fists. That bastard Luther. He had been ruining Kai’s life out of jealousy. All because the Demon God had fallen in love with a human princess. He feared his father would abandon them for her, and still, he feared it.

The Vine and the Rose guided her on how to release her power. Ren trudged to the fountain. A sharp thorn lay on the ground; she picked it up and brought it close to her palm. She was ready to pierce her skin and make an oath.

The tip of the thorn grazed her skin, and blood dripped into the dark water of the fountain that fed the Vine and the Rose.

"I swear by my name as the heir of House Dorient that I will heal you, even if it costs my life." She remembered the face that had scared her moments ago. That must have been one of the servants imprisoned in this hellish nightmare for a thousand years.

And now, she was the only one who knew what had truly happened in this garden. She had discovered her husband’s deepest secret.

She placed her palm on the root of the Vine and closed her eyes. She knew where the core of her magic was, and for months it had bubbled inside her as she had suppressed it.

"You know that I probably burn with you, right?"

"Yes. If you burn us all, we will ascend to the heavens. But if we die in darkness, we vanish. We’ll suffer in the unknown, becoming vengeful soul suckers."

Ren allowed the walls she had built to suppress her magic to creak and then shatter. She didn’t want them to become one of those soul suckers they encountered in the shadow portal.

A massive explosion rippled through the air, and its wave hit Arkilla. She could sense Ren. Pain, grief, fear, agony, wrath, all the ominous feelings that the garden had emitted dissipated. Branches moved above, thorns and vines retreated, letting the gentle kiss of sunlight touch them.
