The Devil's Son and His Fated Bride -
Chapter 46: The only thing that truly belongs to him
Chapter 46: The only thing that truly belongs to him
"Oh, wife! Throw it out. I see you have a lot to say!" The amusement on his face stung so much. She was truly mad at him. She had put her whole heart into making that cologne for him. It was her first time giving a gift to a man, and he had broken it over some crazy shadow she had no clue about. Moreover, he broke the window she was daydreaming next to and blamed herself for hurting his emotions.
"Answer my question." She stood straight, waiting for him to explain his attitude.
"Dear wife, can you tell me what exactly you want to know? Because I don’t understand it."
Ren let out an infuriated chuckle. "You don’t remember? You left me alone, said nothing, then returned with bad news, shattered the window glass and its frame, and you broke the..." She swallowed her anger. He didn’t deserve to know what she had done to surprise him.
"Ah, so you are angry with me because of that aura? Anything else? Well, that’s my nature."
What the actual hell? His nature! His tone was casual, without the slightest hint of regret. And then she blamed herself. What did she expect from a brutal man? Sympathy, empathy, or an apology?
"No!" She spun around and hurried to the bedroom, closing the door behind her before he could follow, and locking it.
"If you don’t want to see me around, just say it!" His voice was shocked.
’I want you always around...’ Knowing what had just come to her mind, she directed her voice precisely. "I don’t want to see you now."
She heard his huff before he left.

Kai’s POV~
Human females! Oh, good gods! They were hard to understand. Could she not just speak bluntly and not leave him with thousands of guesses?
He marched down the corridor, clenching his fists. He hadn’t done anything wrong! It had been just a normal attack on the southern borders as usual, and he had to watch over it. How the hell was he supposed to know he had to explain that to his wife? He had never done that before.
And as for his anger last night, how was he to know that his wife was such a genius at such a young age? She was barely twenty! And he had thought she was going to cut open the body and ruin Org’s soul. And now she was throwing tantrums. She treated Rail so nicely, but when it came to him, she was wild. Unlike the females here, who would beg him to make love to them, she was avoiding him. Despite bearing his mark. Holy cow, Was he unattractive to her?
Ah, he didn’t know how to treat this little doe-eyed woman.
"Your Highness! Why are you here?"
Before he knew it, he was standing in Rigo’s lab.
He pulled himself together and frowned. "When I was away, did anyone hurt my wife?"
Rigo raised a brow. "No, as far as I know!"
Kai smelled her perfume, and his blood boiled. "How long was she here?"
"Counting the time she was making a gift for you, it was eight hours."
A gift? She had been making a gift for him?
He narrowed his eyes. "What do you mean by a gift?"
Rigo brought his palm up. "Don’t tell her I told you. That was supposed to be a surprise."
"Speak, Rigo! Don’t try me!"
Rigo nodded, sensing His Highness’s bad temper on edge today. "Wait, Your Highness." He walked to a shelf, picked up a tiny vial, and brought it to him. "She made a big vial of this for you. It is called cologne."
He removed the cork, and a pleasant odor wafted through the air. "This smells like heaven," Rigo commented.
Kai snatched it from Rigo, his eyes wide. The scent was so familiar. He could swear that last night when he had lost control over Shadow, he had smelled this scent, and Shadow had immediately calmed, ceasing its whispers to emerge.
’Fuck! So she was truly...’ Ah! This little human had truly arrived to be his doom. From the moment he had seen her, his heart, frozen for decades, had started to pound again. And Shadow, his cursed demon, had awakened after a long time, trying to convince him to send the girl as an offering to his father, but before it, he had to fucking claim her.
With every passing day, it was getting harder to control himself. He wanted her so badly. He wanted to claim her body as his and would kill all those who broke her heart. But see who had shattered her heart within seconds? Himself.
If it weren’t for her sake, he would have consummated this marriage in that damn carriage. But she wasn’t his mate. Her body and her soul should be polluted because of his lust, as they were not made for a monster like him. Sleeping with a human meant sending that pure soul into hell, and he didn’t want to do that to Ren. And the reasons behind it were far darker than anyone could endure. If he slept with her and got her pregnant, she would die, just like his mother.
"I’ll keep this," he said and dashed out.
Going to the courtyard, he summoned Siamon to their private place.
In a dark cave, water trickled from a pore, its sound echoing through the fatal silence between them.
"Your Highness, you should have told me that Shadow has awakened." Siamon’s red eyes glinted with worry.
In another dark corner, Agara walked closer, leaning against a wall. He folded his arms against his chest. "It has been decades since I’ve been warning you to stop caging Shadow. That damn monster is a part of you."
"No, it is not!" Kai shouted, making a gust of wind pull at Agara’s hair.
In response, Agara chuckled. "I’m scared!" He scoffed.
"I can’t. You remember exactly what Shadow did to people. Its thirst for blood is bottomless." He closed his eyes, his jaw hardening.
"Oh, yes, I remember that very well. But this time, it is different. I believe the Princess is not like every other human. She is the cure for your cursed Shadow."
Siamon nodded excitedly. "She has three shades of magic. If she were weak, the gods wouldn’t have given her such power."
Kai arched his brow. "Agara, if you know something, then spit it out. If not, don’t tempt me to do what Shadow wants!" He clenched his teeth. He would never harm his wife. The woman he had marked as his own. Even if he let her go, she must always remain his. She could never be with another man.
Agara raised his hands. "I have no clue. But keep that Shadow of yours restrained if you still can’t control it after a thousand years. If you hurt her, I’ll send you back to your father myself. She is precious, with that massive power."
Agara steadied himself, striding back to the dark corner that he had appeared from earlier. "By the way, I heard rumors that your wife was promised to Luther by your father! You might want to find out what’s going on." And with that, he faded into that shadow.
Kai felt as if a bolt of lightning had struck him, freezing him in place. Agara had spoken with certainty, and if even that cold-hearted bastard was troubled by a mere rumor, then something was gravely wrong.
"Your Highness, say something! What is that rumor about?"
Kai’s gaze turned to ice. He didn’t know.
"Siamon," his voice was sharp, measured. "If you want to remain by my side and avoid my father dragging you back to the past, I suggest you leave and investigate, for both of us."
Siamon gave a curt nod and slipped into the darkness. But just before he took his final step, he hesitated.
"She was truly worried for your life," he murmured. "I could hear her heartbeat from miles away."
And then, like Agara before him, he vanished, as if the shadows themselves had opened a hidden passage only they could traverse.
Kai lifted his hand, staring at the tiny vial resting in his palm. His expression softened, his voice a whisper of something almost fragile.
"You are the only thing that truly belongs to me."
