As they moved forward, Ren’s gaze fell upon the image of a griffin, its majestic wings spread wide. Her eyes blazed with admiration. "Griffins are so loyal and sacred. I wish I had one." She glanced at Gloria, who, surprisingly, did not look petrified this time.

"Yes, this one is different, although I don’t know much about it. It looks like eagles and I’m not afraid of them." Gloria murmured, her voice laced with awe. "Dragon fire can destroy everything in its path."

"But for a noble cause, it can save lives." Ren’s words were softer, almost wistful, as she traced the lines of the creature’s feathers.

She trailed off the reading until her fingers stopped on the significant page, eventually, she reached the Fae family tree. Her breath caught in her throat. She scanned the list of Al-Gathiran descendants, but her husband’s name was nowhere to be found.

"They’re all so ancient, very old, even Agara," Gloria commented as if overwhelmed by the sheer weight of time.

Ren’s brow furrowed. "There’s no mention of Prince Kaisun; or his mother. I don’t even know how old he is."

Before Gloria could respond, a voice emerged from the shadows, firm yet tinged with an undercurrent of novelty. "Ten hundred and thirty-nine years, and you could have simply asked me." Kaisun stepped into view, his presence like a storm, dark and unrelenting. Why was he always standing somewhere far from light?

Gloria rushed forward, her voice trembling. "Please forgive me, Your Highness! I am going..."

"Stay," he interrupted, his gaze flicking to Ren. "You’ll come with us. Help her prepare for the training."

Ren rolled her eyes, fighting to conceal her shock at his age. She couldn’t help the flush that rose to her cheeks. She didn’t want to offend him either, but the revelation hit harder than she expected.

"I never said I wanted to attend the training," Ren lied, though her tone betrayed her true feelings. She was desperate to strengthen her body, to harness her powers, but her anger at him lingered, an unspoken tension between them. He was so nasty the other night, talking to her like that, trying to seduce her, and then putting the blame on her if she couldn’t control herself.

"Disobeying my command has severe consequences, Princess." Kaisun’s voice was low, dangerous, and the air seemed to shift with a sudden, oppressive weight. His aura surged, dark and suffocating, and Ren found herself struggling to breathe. She lifted her chin, her throat tight as she met his gaze, though her pulse quickened in fear. He took a step toward her, his presence swallowing the space between them. "You cannot defy me, either. I. Don’t. Like. It."

Ren’s lips pressed together in a thin line. Her mind sprinted, and through their bond, she begged him, her thoughts sharp, biting her nerves. It was hard to link minds when he was emitting his aura. You’re hurting us. Stop it.

For a long moment, there was silence between them. Then, with a soft exhale, Kaisun withdrew his power, but his fingers on her chin tightened slightly, his eyes burning with intensity. Her chest rose and fell in quick succession as she struggled to regain control of her breath. He truly wanted to kiss her lips but... That wasn’t a good idea. He would be unable to control himself if he did kiss her.

"King Xakiel is not my father," he explained, his voice like gravel. "He is my uncle, and it’s none of your business to pry into my life, Princess." His eyes blazed with fury. I don’t want to kill my own woman. He warmed as he let go of her chin.

Ren shuddered. She had always known her husband was enigmatic, dangerous even, but this... this was a glimpse into something far darker than she’d anticipated. Her uncle had once warned her of Kaisun’s father; a being capable of plunging the world into darkness if he chose to, someone whose power reached far beyond mere immortals. What was Kaisun, exactly? She truly wanted to know who his father was.

Something sparked in her mind. Her spine stiffened at the thought. No, she was wrong. There had to be another explanation. Her husband couldn’t be a demon.

"Alright, I’m coming," she muttered, standing up shakily. She fought to hold her composure as she suppressed the lingering tremors of fear. The pressure he’d exerted on her had been suffocating, and she struggled to swallow the lump in her throat.

Kaisun watched her, his expression shifting to something akin to regret. He reached out to her, his hand brushing hers as they left the library.

’I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to hurt you, but it is hard to control it...’

’I should apologize for overstepping my position,’ she thought, the guilt clear in her voice, though she did not speak it aloud.

Ren said nothing else along the way, though her face betrayed her hurt. He could see it, the deep sorrow that clouded her eyes, but all he could do was squeeze her hand. She pulled it away, swift and resolute, her fingers curling into themselves as if to keep some part of herself locked away.

’I’m fine. Just give me some space.’

Her response was cold, and she distanced herself, twisting her fingers nervously in front of her.

’Is this a part of your little game?’

Ren’s voice cut through their bond, sharp and challenging.

’Maybe! As my husband, you should know your limits too.’

Kaisun’s lips curled into a half-smile, an amusement twinkling in his gaze. He nodded slightly, but the tension between them remained, dense and noticeable.

When they arrived at the training arena, Ren gasped. The sight before her was awe-inspiring; holy shit!

An enormous circular field surrounded by stone benches that seemed to stretch excessively. A running track circled the perimeter, lined with wooden obstacles, and there was a vitality in the air that made her pulse quicken.

"How many people can occupy those seats?" she asked, her voice filled with wonder.

"About forty thousand can be seated during the Gamma and Reaper selection each year," Kaisun explained, a note of pride in his voice.

"Humans have knight selection battles, but nothing like this." Ren’s eyes were enlarged the entire time as she took in the grandeur of the arena.

He chuckled, a playful glint in his eyes. "Because they’re not as big as us."

Ren couldn’t help the smirk that tugged at her lips. He was insufferable but undeniably captivating, making her heart betray her countless times. She was about to look away when his smile deepened, a sinful, teasing thing that made her stomach flutter. It was like his dirty words last night, sharp and provocative, played on the edge of her mind, a melody that threatened to undo her resolve. How long could she resist?

What is it, wife? Want a kiss?
