The Devil's Son and His Fated Bride
Chapter 178: A taste of serpent venom.

Chapter 178: A taste of serpent venom.

While guards were busy carrying the broken Darsein boy out, Araben’s lips curled into a mischievous smirk. "Is that a scale on his face?" she asked, pointing at one of the Serpent shifters.

One of the noblewomen leaned in with a dreamy sigh. "Yes, and he’s so handsome. I want to see him in his beast form."

Amused by the idea, Araben laughed and turned to Reneira. "Order him to shift. Now."

A chill ran down Ren’s spine...how disrespectful. Without replying, she linked it to Kai, letting him decide.

Kai clenched his jaw. This human clearly lacked even a shred of fear.

Pointless hag!

He walked over to his serpent shifter, whispered something in his ear, then stepped confidently into the center of the arena.

The serpent shifter’s gaze flicked to Araben. She flashed a sly smirk. "I heard you, little princess."

The smile on Araben’s face withered.

The Serpent shifter shifted in a flash, scales rippled across his skin, and a long, dark crimson tail unfurled behind him. With a serpentine hiss, he lunged at Kai, attacking in a flurry of wild strikes that made the audience collectively gasp.

"Your husband is so fast, princess!" someone whispered in awe.

Araben narrowed her eyes, watching intently.

The Serpent lashed his tail, tearing through the ground and sending clouds of dust and splinters flying. Kai moved like lightning, bouncing back and delivering a sharp punch to the shifter’s face.

Venom sprayed from the Serpent’s fangs, landing on a chunk of wood, which immediately began to sizzle and melt.

Araben’s expression lit up with twisted delight. "I want this beast as my pet!"

Ren clenched her fists at her sides, forcing herself to stay composed. "Sister, they are dangerous," she said coldly.

Dare you make one of my people your pet, bitch? Taste it, she thought, eyes narrowing toward her husband.

Linking to him, she sent the message: Let Captain Dron give her a taste of his venom.

Kai didn’t waste a moment, he linked Ren’s message directly to his man, and the Serpent instantly slithered toward Araben.

The King of Alvonia leaned back in his seat, quietly enjoying his daughter’s flustered reaction.

In a flash, the crimson serpent scaled the wall, his movements fluid and terrifying. Screams echoed as guests scrambled out of his path in panic.

Now towering above Araben, his shadow fell over her like a curse. "Who’s going to be the pet now?" he hissed.

His vertical-slit eyes glowed with malevolence, promising pain.

Only then did Ren notice it, true fear etched itself into Araben’s face. She was frozen in her chair, trembling.

Dron bared his fangs, venom dripping in thick droplets. One fell on the stone floor between them, sizzling on impact. Another landed on the back of Araben’s hand.

Agony erupted instantly. She shrieked, collapsing onto the floor, her scream echoing through the arena.

Dron loomed over her, voice cold and unrelenting. "Call me a pet again, and I’ll melt your entire body, ugly hag."

Ugly hag...that insult landed deeper than the venom. Araben hated being called ugly more than anything.

For just a moment, Ren caught a glimpse of Josa’s sly grin, savoring the pain rippling through Ara.

The princess screamed louder, shoving everyone away and shouting at Lora to summon a healer.

That’s when Agara finally stirred, pushing himself lazily off the wall where he’d been lingering in the shadows. Ren hadn’t even noticed he was there. He preferred to remain unseen since arriving.

"Let me heal her," he said calmly.

All eyes turned to him. They didn’t know what he was, and many likely assumed he was some kind of shifter.

But the moment a soft light glowed over Araben’s wounded hand, murmurs spread like wildfire.

"A wizard?"

"How is that possible?"

"Sorcerers aren’t allowed here!"

King Benkin’s fury exploded. He stood and roared at the crowd, "Watch your mouths, or I’ll have your tongues cut off! He is no magician, he is a Fae! The son of the Fae King himself. How dare you accuse him?"

A heavy silence fell over the place at the weight of that declaration.

Araben, still trembling but suddenly mesmerized, looked up at the striking Fae who had healed her.

"Thank you," she cooed, her monstrous screech melting into syrupy sweetness. "What’s your name?"

"Prince Agaraith Al-Gathiran," he replied with a graceful nod. "I’m your brother-in-law’s cousin, Princess. Are you feeling better?"

Araben could barely tear her eyes away from him. When she finally glanced down, her breath caught, the deep, agonizing wound on her hand had vanished without a trace. Not even a scar remained.

Ren’s lips tightened into a small pout as she glanced at her uncle. He shouldn’t have revealed himself, she thought. What was he thinking?

This would only complicate things. She never wanted Agara drawn into this mess.

"It’s time to go back," she said sharply.

Ren hadn’t even noticed when Kai appeared behind her, but his quiet presence and timing made it clear, he’d seen enough, and he approved.

As they walked a few steps forward, Kai turned to Agara with a steady gaze.

"You...come with me."

After leaving the arena, Ren shot her uncle a sharp look. "As my uncle, you should take my side. Why would you heal the hands that spilled blood just last night?"

She didn’t hide her disapproval.

Agara chuckled, completely unbothered. "Are you jealous, niece?"

Ren marched over to the window of her chamber, trying to cool down. Behind her, Kai struggled not to laugh, biting his lip to keep from pushing her further.

"I’ve sworn to heal anyone in pain, unless I’m facing them on the battlefield," Agara said with a dramatic shrug. "I had to help her, or I’d lose dignity. Kill her next time when I’m not around. Believe me, I was annoyed the whole time."

Ren rolled her eyes. Her uncle always had a way of making his own bizarre moral code sound noble.

"I’m not going to kill her," she muttered. "I’ll cast her out. That’s enough."

She wasn’t a killer and never had been.

"Alright, alright," Agara said, raising his hands in surrender. "Anyway, I wasn’t there for her. I was looking for your husband. And I found an outcast witch, alive. She said some interesting things."

Kai, now changing into a fresh shirt, pointed at Agara’s arm. "Your sleeve’s bloody."

"It’s the witch’s blood," Agara replied casually.

"What did she say?"

"Victor Keleemont was nearly dead when a high witch named Phoria found him. As for Lutherieth, she didn’t know who...or what...he was."

Kai turned to his wife. "Do you know how Victor was condemned to death? They didn’t burn or behead him, right?"

Ren blinked, caught off guard. "Actually... they poisoned him in front of everyone. Then they tossed him into the ocean."
