The Devil's Son and His Fated Bride
Chapter 153: Gloria D’Orient?!!

Chapter 153: Gloria D’Orient?!!

"I did," Azrael said grimly. "The immortal weapon was there and Luther somehow transported it. Maybe smugglers helped him. But that’s not all. I heard whispers among the witches, a tale they revere like sacred scripture. A thousand witches and wizards sacrificed themselves, burning their own lives away to heal her soul during the attack, to save it from final death. They could not kill King Alvone of Spike’s power protecting him, therefore, they linked their powers and saved her soul instead. They prayed: ’May her return be stronger, may she rise from ash and blood.’"

He paused, and for a heartbeat, the world seemed to hold its movements.

"I couldn’t believe it either... until I stepped inside that sanctuary," Azrael continued, his voice fraying. "The moment I crossed the threshold, I felt it. Her soul. Alive."

His wide eyes shimmered with a terror that nothing else had ever managed to carve into him.

"If you saw someone carrying King Alvone’s blood," Kai asked cautiously, "could you recognize it?"

He clung to the fragile hope that his brother could track at least one such soul before it was too late.

"I had to search for the bloodline," Azrael said, his voice low, "and it led me here, to Alvonia."

Kai tilted his head, tension rippling through him. "Who is it?"

"She’s in prison," Azrael finished, his mind reeling. "You call her a spy. Daniella De-Alvone. She hid her family line."

A heavy silence fell. Had the girl even known who she truly was?

"So she wasn’t lying," Agara muttered, piecing it together. "King Alvone served the Fae... and his descendants have carried that allegiance ever since. Everything falls into place now."

His eyes sharpened.

"But tell me, is Lutherieth trying to use that weapon to summon Nimoieth... or kill one of us?"

"Both," Azrael said without hesitation. "But there’s something else. Why did he let the last heir of King Alvone’s blood escape? Why not keep her locked away, or dead?"

Kai’s expression darkened as the final pieces clicked.

"He knew. He ordered Victor to kill her and erase the last threat. She’s the only one who could wield that weapon. They took her to Deagara, exposed her to its horrors, and tested her. I kept asking myself why—why show her the forbidden, why let her touch the edge of their secrets? Now I know. They wanted to see if she could survive the crossing... and if she could kill one of them. They tested her heart."

"She felt its power and was drawn to it," Azrael muttered, his eyes narrowing. "That’s why she proposed using that weapon. But what if she betrays us?"

Suspicion coiled in his voice. He trusted that girl no more than a serpent in the grass.

"Stop it. She helped us!" Agara shot back, his tone hard.

Azrael’s lips curled into a sneer. "Blind, aren’t you? What if she has her own agenda? How do you even know her story is true? She could approach The Spike for the blood in her veins, not her heart, sorry that I have to refuse your ideas."

His gaze sharpened to a blade’s edge. "Don’t tell me you’ve fallen for her, Agara!" Azrael taunted.

Agara’s face flushed crimson, rage roaring up inside him, but before the clash could ignite, Kai’s voice thundered between them.

"Enough!"

The tension broke like a whip-crack.

"I have a plan," Kai continued, his voice cold and measured. "We let her touch the weapon. If betrayal lurks in her heart, we’ll see it, but first, we need to steal it."

Agara crossed his arms, frowning in thought.

"Hmm... do you know a human with a pure heart? Pure, but foolish enough to leap into danger? We can’t form a portal into Deagara’s cursed heart. Our magic only works behind the ice walls, where the old Fae magic still clings to the stone."

Azrael’s expression darkened, his voice dropping low. "I know one."

A beat of silence passed, heavy and grim. The weight of his tone made the air thick with dread.

"But if she won’t come willingly," Azrael added, "we’ll have to scare her."

Kai’s eyes narrowed. "Who?"

"The missing daughter of the D’Orient house!" Azrael answered with a wicked grin, his voice rich with malice.

"Wasn’t she dead?" Agara’s brow furrowed, disbelief creeping into his tone.

Azrael shook his head, his expression shifting to something almost sinister. "A father with a wicked wife will do anything to protect his beloved child. Lord Alekin hid his daughter away, far from the treacherous games of power that consume this court."

Kai’s brow arched in confusion. "What do you mean? Is the girl somewhere I know?"

Azrael’s eyes gleamed with something darker as he continued, his voice crackling like thunder. "Gloria D’Orient is the only innocent soul in this entire castle. She can touch the Spike. Her true father named her Gloria, a name that royals can have, a name was given since birth."

The air grew heavier, and both Kai and Agara froze, their eyes widening in shock. The words hung in the air like a death sentence. Was he talking about the same Gloria? The one who served Reneira, the very maid who Kai had saved from slavery before becoming a harlot, and now, Rail had grown so fond of her?

Damn.

She was another legitimate princess. Second only to Reneira. Another rightful heir to the Throne of the Seven Kingdoms.

Kai shook his head in disbelief, "If what you say is true, I cannot risk her life. Lord Alekin already hates Reneira and shows coldness toward her. If we send his daughter to the mouth of death, he will rise against my wife."

Azrael suddenly burst into a sickening laughter, making Kai frown.

"Is it funny, asshole?" Agara snapped.

"Since when you two are worried about the mortal scheme?" His amused face shifted to a menacing one, "I’ll do everything to let Nimoieth stay where the hell she is. I’m the death itself and if I have to devour Alekin’s life, I’ll do it. If his daughter doesn’t help us, her father will have to collect her pieces from the ground if the vampires catch a scent of her blood."

Agara jolted. That was true. In Luther’s previous attack on Thegara, vampires showed a ravenous interest in her blood. And Acelieth was after her to drag Rail back to Luther’s cage. If Acelieth, the Fae vampire, could pick up that line of blood, Luther would know who Gloria was!
