The Devil's Son and His Fated Bride
Chapter 141: Going to his house.

Chapter 141: Going to his house.

After snapping out of his trance, still wearing that goofy look, Kai brushed his knuckles gently along her cheek. He loved how her tender skin felt under his touch. "Love, how about I take you somewhere private? Only you and I will be there."

Ren tilted her head, a flicker of hesitation in her eyes. "But we have to leave for Alvonia tomorrow..."

"We’ll be back before then," he murmured, a peaceful glint lighting his gaze.

"So, we go wherever you want," she whispered, a soft smile curving her lips as she lifted her hands to hold him.

Kai’s heart swelled. She hadn’t asked where just trusted him. Even after everything, even after his cruel mistakes, she’d forgiven him. And that undid him more than any punishment ever could.

Kai conjured a portal and swept her into his arms. In the blink of an eye, they crossed through and emerged on the other side.

Ren narrowed her eyes against the sudden shift in light. They stood in the heart of a forest, quiet and alive with breathless beauty. Kai gently set her down, and as she turned, her gaze landed on a quaint, secluded cottage nestled among the trees. A small garden stretched beside it, rich with the scent of fresh vegetables and damp earth. Her eyes lit up with wonder. Lanterns hung from wooden beams, their warm glow making the scene feel like something from a forgotten dream.

Her heart fluttered. Her husband’s taste... was utterly captivating.

"Are we going here?" she asked, a voice full of hope.

"Nope," Kai grinned, pointing to a torch-lit path winding deeper into the woods. "We’re going there."

He laced his fingers with hers and guided her forward. The trail led them to a ring of ancient stones, where pink and purple moths flitted through the air beside glowing fireflies. Their luminous dance reflected on the slick black rocks and shimmered across the surface of a shallow water big pot- a natural bathtub- carved into the huge stone platform.

"Good Gods... this is incredible," she breathed.

Her eyes sparkled like starlight. Water trickled gently from a narrow opening in the stone, streaming in slender ribbons that vanished into the forest, carrying the moment with them.

"Yes... this is my small house," he said softly.

Ren blinked, snapping out of her reverie. The place felt enchanted as if magic whispered through the leaves and clung to the air like a spell disguised as a breeze. But his words lingered...My house.

"Now, it’s our house," he added with a quiet smile.

Her heart skipped at the sight of him, his face lit by lantern glow, soft and devastating. This man... he knew how to unravel her guard, make her kneel before him.

But swiftly, she frowned, her voice barely above a breath. "What do you mean by that? Aren’t you living in the castle?"

Kai nodded slowly. "I do now. Since we got married, I’ve stayed there. But before that... this was my home. I only went to the castle when summoned, or when war demanded it." His gaze softened. "Gloria’s father tends this place when I’m away."

Tears welled in her eyes. In the hush of the forest, her shimmering blues looked like a mirror catching the moonlight.

Kai leaned in and kissed her, softly, reverently. This time, there was no hunger. No rush. Only quiet passion and love, deep and unrushed. She closed her eyes and let herself drown in it, tasting everything he couldn’t say, feeling every word he never voiced.

"Reneira," he whispered against her lips, "you’ve changed so many things."

She opened her eyes, searching his face. Something was flickering behind his gaze, was it sorrow? A thousand unsaid things fighting for breath, trapped in a heart that had only just learned how to speak.

"And you gave me a second chance to live," she whispered. "But you never talk about yourself, Kai. You know everything about me... and I know so little about you."

Kai shook his head, his smile tinged with something darker. "My past is ugly. You know some of it."

Ren’s lips pressed into a thin line. "No. I’ve only heard about Shadow. Not you."

His eyes drifted away, the weight of old wounds flickering in his silence. She felt it, the burden he carried, the ache he rarely named. Still, she didn’t press, though her heart opened, ready to hold whatever truth he might one day offer.

"It’s a little warm," he said suddenly, his voice lighter. "Should we get in the water?"

She knew it for what it was, his way of slipping out of the moment, but she let it slide. She wouldn’t force his walls to fall. Instead, she stepped closer and helped him out of his heavy formal coat. Her gaze lingered on him, helpless against the pull of his presence. His sexy body, ah! She would always forget how to breathe.

"Naughty wife," he teased, catching her stare with a wicked grin. "Do you want something again? You’ve been seducing me an awful lot lately."

Heat rushed to her cheeks. Flustered, she rubbed her eyes as if that could erase her thoughts, then fumbled with the thick fabric of her dress. Before slipping it off, she paused and glanced around.

"No one’s here, right?"

He chuckled softly. She already knew the answer. Her modesty, so gentle, so quietly dignified, was one of the many things he adored about her.

Ren stepped into the water, leaving only a veil of lace between her and the night. Kai raked a hand through his hair, trying to tame the heat curling in his chest, then followed her in, guiding her into the cold spring.

A shiver rippled down her back, goosebumps rising on her skin, but her body adjusted quickly. The warmth of the night and the dense embrace of the forest made it bearable. Soothing, even.

Kai pulled her gently into his arms, his chest flushing against her back as he poured water over her shoulder, fingers tracing her skin with gentleness.

"Do you feel better?" he murmured.

"Mmm," she hummed, eyes fluttering closed. "How long have you lived here?"

She didn’t ask idly; she was touched, deeply, that he’d brought her to this place. His place. A secret corner of the world he hadn’t shared with anyone else.

"About five hundred years," he said, almost casually.

Ren stifled her surprise, refusing to flinch or let it show on her face. But inside, she reeled. Five hundred years. It was a lifetime stretched into many. And now she stood here, in the heart of all that time, cradled in his arms.
