Chapter 79: The Second stage of Temptation: Contemplation.

[From: Marcus

Thanks for today. Already got home an hour ago. I will send you the study materials you need tomorrow.]

Fil held her phone, reading the message while drying her hair with a small towel. Standing in her robe, she tossed the small towel over her shoulder as she held her phone.

[To: Marcus

Thank you very much. I really appreciate it.]

[From: Marcus

You’re welcome.]

Her eyelids drooped as her eyes swirled with discontent. It was ridiculously amazing how Marcus acted so differently now. Even though he had been polite and kind to her in the past, he was more forthcoming now. But what truly amazed her was how he could act like this after sending an innocent man to the hospital after beating him up so terribly.

"I guess it’s in their nature to carry multiple faces at the same time," she whispered. "So, they have multiple options on which one to wear to cover the ugliness hidden behind their masks."

[From: Marcus

Goodnight, Fil.]

Fil raised her brows, as she didn’t plan to respond to him. She didn’t want to appear just as forthcoming as he was. After all, it might turn him off, and being too aggressive might backfire on her. But since he was giving her some opening, she wanted to test how far she could go.

[To: Marcus

It’s too early for you to sleep.]

[From: Marcus

It’s late.]

[To: Marcus

For me, yes. Not for you, though. :P ]

Fil slowly sat on the edge of the bed, eyes on her phone. She could see him typing, and then not.

"What is he trying to say and can’t say it?" she wondered genuinely, tilting her head to the side.

[From: Marcus

You got me. I’m outside Michael’s place. He wants to chill.]

"He didn’t have to tell me," she chuckled, amused at the response she got. "It’s so easy to lie, but why be honest now?"

[To: Marcus

Enjoy. *smiling face*]

[From: Marcus

Are you going to sleep now?]

"Of course not." Fil glanced at the door, thinking about Jackson, who went out for a bit. "I promised him something."

Fil pondered for a moment, considering what sort of reply Marcus would want to hear.

[To: Marcus

I’ll try.]

[From: Marcus

Try?]

[To: Marcus

I have trouble sleeping sometimes, so I end up reviewing some designs until I sleep.]

[From: Marcus

I see.]

[To: Marcus

But if I’m not trying to impress you and be honest, I sometimes end up watching movies.]

Marcus, on the other side, laughed upon reading her last message. He just kept typing on his phone, idling in the driver’s seat instead of entering the building where Michael lived.

[To: Fil

Do you need someone to talk to?]

[From: Fil

I’m okay. I’m used to being alone, so I’ll be fine. Just enjoy your time with your friends. Goodnight.]

Marcus smiled subtly without realizing it, humming as he responded with a simple "Yes, goodnight." He stared at his phone, scrolling up in case she would send another reply. When he realized what he was doing, Marcus snapped his eyes and his smile disappeared immediately.

"Why am I waiting for her?" he mumbled, shaking his head, and then glanced at his phone again.

A deep sigh escaped him as he recalled the question she asked him while they were together. For some reason, he sort of felt sorry for her. After spending just half a day with Fil, he could vouch how fun she could be. Yet, she was wasting her energy worrying if her man even loved her because Vincent wasn’t even making any effort to appreciate his woman.

"How can he have the time to appreciate Fil when he got Marianne?" he told himself, leaning back as he contemplated. He tapped his fingers over the steering wheel, deep in thought.

"Marcus, you are losing your mind," he muttered after a long moment. "Even if Vince isn’t treating her right, it’s still not okay to butt in."

There was no way Marcus would put himself in such a situation. A third party? Fil might be everything he was looking for a woman, but Marcus was more than just a third party. The supplies of women who could satisfy his needs and wants were unlimited.

Why would he risk being close to an engaged woman who wouldn’t even let anyone kiss her until marriage?

"It’s just a moment of confusion," he told himself, unbuckling his seat and then unconsciously glancing at his phone again. "I hadn’t been with any woman for the past months. So, I’m probably just thirsty for some action."

With that thought in mind, Marcus shrugged Fil from his thoughts. And yet, he didn’t hide his phone, as if he was subconsciously waiting for her to message or maybe call for help.

When Marcus reached Michael’s apartment, what welcomed him were Anton, Michael, and some women. Pretty, sexy, and confident women. Michael was making out with one of them on the couch, almost like a don with another woman waiting for her to turn on his other side.

"I thought it would just be us?" Marcus remarked as he approached the living area. "I didn’t know we have so many guests?"

"We met them at the club," said Anton, his arm resting over a woman’s shoulder. "They’re fun. Right, babe?"

The woman giggled at him, leaning closer to him until her almost exposed breasts were pressing on Anton’s side. Anton wiggled his brows playfully, patting her thighs sexually.

Marcus darted his eyes at the scene, glancing to his right when a woman suddenly sat on his side.

"Hey, babe," the woman called seductively, offering him a drink. "Want some?"

He looked at her, admitting the woman looked pretty. Probably a high-end escort that he could fuck for the night. However, he only took the glass and gazed at his friends.

"What?" he asked in irritation. "Is this an orgy? Did your fetishes evolve and now you want to watch each other’s performances?’

Michael burst out laughing, pulling his lips away from the woman he had been kissing intimately. "Dude, what the hell are you talking about? If you want to fuck, then there are tons of beds available."

"We were just talking about Kenzo," Anton chimed in, caressing the woman in his arms. "I heard he woke up today."

"Ah... so?" Marcus arched a brow.

"Vincent was riled up about it," Anton explained. "Kenzo is Fil’s workmate. He was worried that she’d hear who did it to him."

Marcus furrowed his brows but then shrugged. "That coward won’t talk," he said with certainty. "If he does, then his brother will have to suffer the consequences. He won’t want his brother to have the same fate as him."

It wasn’t like that slipped from Marcus’s mind while he was with Fil. He immediately thought of Kenzo when she reached out to him, but it didn’t seem she knew. Well, Kenzo wouldn’t want to burden other people and that was what was wrong with him.

"Oh?" Anton’s mouth turned into an o-shape. "No wonder I haven’t heard anything from my management. I was shit scared I would be called by my CEO."

"Oh, come on!" Michael mused. "You’re their cash cow. At most, they’ll just tell you to behave and they cover up the rest."

"What about you? Weren’t you worried too?" Anton frowned at Michael. "If this goes out, your father will beat you to death."

"Nah. My dad already accepted that I was the curse of the family. Even so, I’m his son. He won’t let me destroy his hard work over something so stupid. Or what he always says." Michael humored, looking at the great beauties sandwiching him. "So, I’ll just have a good time. The only reason I asked you to hang out is because you might need time to chill and forget about your worries."

"There’s no need to worry, and Vincent is just putting his nose where it doesn’t belong." Marcus leaned back comfortably, looking at the woman beside him again. "He got bigger problems to worry about. So what if Kenzo and Fil are workmates? It’s not like she would break up with him because his friends beat her friend. But she might if she finds out that he’s fucking Marianne."

For some reason, Marcus felt incredibly annoyed at the remarks he had spewed. He didn’t know exactly what miffed him, but it was an unpleasant feeling.

"Come with me," he said, taking the woman’s hand and dragging her off the place. "If that’s all you want to do, then I’ll have fun on my own."

"Hey!" Michael called, watching Marcus take home the woman. "Dang. I forgot to tell him that I needed to borrow some money."

"Don’t look at me," Anton remarked as he led the woman with him into one of the rooms. "I’ll also have fun, so don’t bother me. Enjoy your threesome or whatever you want."

Michael frowned deeply as Anton took the other woman with him. He clicked his tongue and gazed at the beautiful ladies beside him.

"They’re not real friends, are they?" he lamented, earning a giggle from the beauties.

"Don’t worry, Mike," said the woman seductively. "We’ll make you feel better."

"Right..." the other woman quipped, wrapping her hand around his groin, eyes still on him. "In a while, you’ll feel better."

Michael smiled in satisfaction, watching the other woman crawl her way down to him. The other, on the other hand, guided his chin to face her, smashing her lips on his.
