Chapter 185: That scared him
Chapter 185: That scared him
Vincent pressed the lock button on his car key, making his car produce a beep as the lights blinked. On his way to the entrance of the hotel he had been staying at, he stopped upon catching a familiar person leaning against a big motorcycle.
"Michael," he called, watching Michael peel his back from his ride. "I wonder what made you want to ambush me in the parking space?"
Michael chuckled. "Is that what you’re going to tell me after last night?"
Vincent sighed, while Michael grinned wickedly.
"If not for me, all your guests would’ve gone home with a trauma! Good thing I threw that party, and no one’s talking about your sister’s suicide attempt." The corner of Michael’s mouth stretched from ear to ear. "You are welcome."
"Valerie didn’t commit suicide and I don’t have to thank you, but yes. It helped." Vincent admitted. "Thanks."
He then raised his brows slightly. "Is that what you came here for? To hear me say thanks?"
"I’m not just here to hear a simple thank you, but to make sure I get the credit!" Michael exclaimed. "I’m good now."
"You really have plenty of time. Sometimes, I envy you." Vincent shook his head as he resumed his steps. "Go home. I’m not in the mood to hang out."
Michael kept his snarky countenance while watching Vincent walk past him. "Hey."
"Go home." Vincent waved dismissively without looking back. "Go to Anton or Marcus if you want some company. Better yet, get a hooker to be happy."
"Can I ask Fil for a date?"
Vincent stopped, looking back at Michael. The latter smirked deviously, chuckling as he found how easy it was to get his attention.
"Don’t use Fil to make me listen next time," Vincent warned calmly, used to Michael’s antics to get what he wanted. "If you want to tell me something, just say it."
"That’s what I want!" Michael shrugged. "I mean, I want to line up early since tomorrow’s line will be much longer."
Vincent furrowed his brows, thinking Michael was referring to the attention Fil got last night. But then, Michael continued, which squashed down his assumptions.
"You didn’t see it?" Michael cocked his head to the side.
"See, what?"
"You don’t know?" Michael laughed. "Anton’s music video is out."
"And?"
"Fil is in it!"
Vincent slowly furrowed his brows while Michael raised his brows.
"Well, I guess you don’t know." Michael smacked his lips. "I know you aren’t fond of the internet, but why don’t you browse tonight before you sleep? You’d understand what I meant."
With that being said, Michael casually turned while waving. "I’m lining up tonight and you can’t stop me. You owe me one."
Vincent frowned as he stared at Michael’s figure. "She hates you."
"I’ll still try~!"

Vincent went straight to the small bar counter in his suite as a regular routine whenever he came home. As he chugged down a mouthful, he glanced at his phone.
[I know you aren’t fond of the internet, but why don’t you browse tonight before you sleep? You’d understand what I meant.]
"Is that why Anton was so angry?" he mumbled to himself, recalling how Anton went to his office to confront him. A deep breath escaped him, shaking his head as he also remembered how he accused Anton of going out with his woman.
Vincent should’ve known Anton wouldn’t cross that line. If Fil really helped Anton in his music video, then it was only natural for Anton to get angry at Valerie and protect Fil. Now that he recalled, Anton had been going on about this music video and even invited Fil to Marcus’s party.
"I was so blinded with jealousy... damn it." Another deep breath slipped past his nostril, browsing the internet to see what Michael was talking about. However, Vincent didn’t need to browse so much because Anton and the music video were everywhere.
Clicking the link, the first thing that showed up was the thumbnail.
"She’s really in here," he whispered. "She used to hate unwanted attention, but now... her face is everywhere."
Vincent played the music video before he slowly sat down on the stool. He couldn’t help but admit that the song impressed him; he knew Anton was a good singer, but he was never a fan. Therefore, he didn’t waste his time listening to his music in the past. But now, his eyes were glued to the music video as he found himself immersed in the story.
In the beginning, Anton (his character) only showed his perspective on being with Fil (her character). They got along very well and were comfortable with each other. They wouldn’t even mind sleeping together on the same bed, which led to a misunderstanding at the beginning of the story that they were lovers. In his eyes, she was the one — the only one.
But as the story progressed, it slowly revealed that Fil wasn’t his lover, but his best friend. And Fil had a lover.
She was in love with him, happy with him, and even wanted to marry him. In her eyes, her lover was the only one. She was too blinded to see the fiery love of her best friend for her. But this man she loved... was cheating on her.
The music video showed Anton’s struggle with his love for her and knowing that her lover was fooling around. But before he could decide on it, Fil confessed.
She knew about her lover’s infidelity, which explained how her beautiful glow slowly diminished. She had seen him, cried quietly, and suffered alone. She hid her pain behind her beautiful smile, making everyone clueless that the more she was with her lover, the less she felt alive.
Vincent’s jaw tightened as his grip on the phone trembled. His breathing slowed down, watching the ending of the music video.
"Hah..." a short laugh escaped him, running his tongue across his inner cheek. "What nonsense."
Vincent dropped his phone and chugged down the remaining alcohol in his glass. As he swallowed it down, another deep exhale escaped him.
"All that love... she gave everything to him, but in the end, she still left him and went with another man?" he scoffed, pouring himself another glass. The ending was frustrating. "What a frustrating song."
Vincent downed the entire glass and hissed in dissatisfaction. When he mildly slammed the glass down on the counter, a glint flickered across his eyes.
’That... cannot be,’ he told himself, grinding his teeth, his face twitching. "She can’t be with another man... I won’t let her."
He shook his head, unable to stop himself from seeing the impending doom of their relationship. Even though the music video was nothing but storytelling, Vincent had to agree to one thing. That ending... doesn’t only happen in fiction.
It could happen in real life — it could happen to him.
She could find another man who would love her properly without any complications.
That scared him.
