Chapter 81: The great Yang Mingshen in flesh
At the local hospital where Mingshen was ’dumped’ by Jia to be in charge of Anhe’s treatment, he restlessly awaited the time when she would regain her consciousness. As a doctor, he was aware that it was some hours away, but being left out of the investigation at the park left a bitter taste in his mouth.
There was a crowd of doctors and nurses formed outside Anhe’s intensive care unit. After all, it was Yang Mingshen in the flesh. There was nobody in the medical community who didn’t know his name.
As soon as Mingshen had taken charge, his entire presence engulfed the hospital. His charisma and confidence alone effortlessly commanded respect and attention. For a long time, it was hard to believe that the devil doctor who all deans wanted to visit their hospital just once, was actually standing before them. It was such an honor that everybody was at their best behavior, attentive and upright.
"Oh my God, it’s Yang Mingshen!"
"I have seen him in the news sometimes but he looks hotter in the flesh!"
"I cannot believe such a distinguished doctor like him personally came here," one of them emotionally cried.
The nurses squealed while the doctors inwardly dreamed of a chance to get to talk to him about their own medical research and have his opinion on some cases. It felt like a once in a lifetime opportunity.
Inside the ICU and unaware of the chaos outside, Mingshen was gauging Anhe’s vitals on the monitors. He took her pulse when he felt something on the left side of her waist as his finger brushed past it. He gently pressed his index and middle finger.
A swelling?
He narrowed his eyes, rubbing his fingers and feeling a strange sensation.
"Nurse."
His deep, somber voice resonated and everybody jolted upright. One of the more experienced nurses calmed herself and quickly walked in. "Yes, Dr. Yang."
"Lift her dress up."
"..."
"S-sorry?"
"Her dress. Lift it up. I don’t want a sexual harassment case being charged against me," he smiled.
Witnessing the devilish smile at such a close distance, the nurse felt she would soon become one of the patients here.
"Y-Yes!"
She carefully lifted the dress and suddenly gasped as she saw a big bluish purple bruise on her waist. "Oh my God...She was injured on the stomach too?"
Mingshen tilted his head, checking the severity of the wound. He asked her to pull back the dress.
"Bring an ice pack."
"Yes!"
She rushed outside when a middle-aged couple pushed the doctors and nurses away from their way and barged inside the ICU. One doctor even violently crashed against the wall.
"A-Are you okay, Dr. Fang?"
He painfully held his arm. "I am okay..."
"Hey you cannot go inside!"
The woman glared back. "Shut up! Who are you to order us around? It’s my daughter for God’s sake!"
"Anhe! M-My dear daughter!" Crying a river of tears, the couple hurried towards the bed. But Mingshen stretched his leg in between.
Before they could get even one word out, Mingshen coldly said, "Get out."
"What? She is my daughter! We just came to know that-"
"Get out."
The couple, Mr. and Mrs. Geng couldn’t fathom Mingshen’s reaction for a while. "We are her parents!"
"I don’t care even if you are God. This is my ICU. This is my patient. I call the shots who and when somebody can enter. I will treat you like garbage if you barge in like wild buffoons and push around the staff. Pay damages to that doctor and wait outside like civilized people."
"He is not hurt that bad. Why should we pay for anything?" The wife was thoroughly displeased.
Mingshen let out a sardonic smile. "I wonder when the illiteracy from this world will disappear?"
Mr. Geng was speechless. "Mind your tongue! I am the principal of Brightside University! How dare you call me illiterate?"
"You are the principal?" He exclaimed. "Doesn’t this make things worse then? That’s like a doctor who doesn’t know how to use a stethoscope. The wife of an educational institution’s principal doesn’t know that when a doctor gets hurt, he cannot treat his patients. Do we look like we are made up of steel? Look, that poor chap has probably sprained his shoulder. Who will take responsibility for his patients?"
The wife scoffed. "Patients? Who would even come to this small local hospital? It’s so pathetic that I want to take my dear Anhe away!"
The staff outside heard this humiliation and lowered their gazes in disappointment.
"Dear, I want our Anhe to be admitted to one of the hospitals Yang Mingshen is in charge of. His hospitals are so huge and luxurious. I don’t trust these unqualified and disrespectful doctors!"
Mingshen arched his brow. The staff outside widened their eyes in horror.
Calling Yang Mingshen unqualified?
Her husband nodded. "You are right, dear. This deplorable hospital cannot possibly take care of Anhe."
"Rejected."
"Excuse me?" They looked at him.
Mingshen chuckled. "You just said you want to transfer your daughter to one of my hospitals. I reject the demand."
"Huh? Who are you to reject anything?" Their expressions twisted.
"Oh dear you need an ENT specialist too along with a teacher," he dryly said. "I will repeat it. You just said you want to transfer your daughter to one of MY hospitals. I reject the demand."
They stared at him, their mouths widening with the realization dawning upon them. "You...you are Yang Mingshen?"
He smiled, spreading his hands sideways ’helplessly.’ "Yang Mingshen, who you think is unqualified and disrespectful."
They froze. The couple felt their throats go dry. Who could have thought that THE Yang Mingshen would personally be at a local hospital?
He sneered, his eyes coated with a layer of frost. "Now that you know who I am - Get out. Pay the compensation to Dr. Fang and if I hear you talking shit about the hospital or discredit the staff again, I will strap you both to the beds and puncture your bodies with a thousand injection holes. No doctor and no nurse will hear this crap from anybody, certainly not from illiterate assholes like you two. Fuck off now."
—
Jia pressed the space between her brows listening to Mingshen’s rambling on the phone about how he was apparently ’suffering’ because of Anhe’s illiterate parents. The only outcome he cared about was - "I will return to your side~"
"No," was her indifferent response. "Stay there with Anhe."
She hung up and looked back at the group from outside the room. She held her gaze at Yong for a moment, then at Daxia and then at the guys.
Principal’s daughter huh...
Contemplating for a moment in silence, she made another call.
"Huojin," she smiled.
"Hey, how’s your day off going?"
"Nothing less than a rollercoaster ride. An accident occurred here in the horror house and I am investigating," she gave him a quick walkthrough of the developments till now.
"Oh. Are you perhaps Conan in disguise?" He asked with amusement.
"Who is Conan?"
"The first thing you will do after solving this case is come to my house, Song Jia. I need to brainwash you into watching anime."
"Is that important?"
"How is a pizza without cheese?"
"A blasphemy."
"Life is exactly that without anime."
"I see."
"Anyway, I assume you want me there?"
"Not here. I want you to be somewhere else and do something for me."
"Cool," Jia could hear the smile in his voice, "I was getting bored anyway. So start talking."
