Chapter 350: Huayuan (20)
Xie Zi Han waited at a small ramen shop, his watchful eyes keeping an eye on the plaza from a distance. Suddenly, he spotted a familiar figure in the crowd, making his eyes widen.
Yang Mingshen again...And that is Song Jia.
He tilted his head, wondering if they got to meet Yong. But more than that he was curious about Jia finally being able to get entry into Huayuan.
How did the Huayuan’s leader agree to this?
He didn’t have the luxury to continue on that thought process as his eyes caught his target he was waiting for. His eyes narrowed and he quickly took a glance in his phone to confirm the thug’s face.
He finished his last bite and placed the bills on the table. He went off in the direction of the brothel, following the thug at some distance.
Ahead of him, the goon reached out to hold the doorknob of one of the rooms with a wide grin on his lips. He was thrilled about the night to come.
He stepped inside and whistled by himself. He then heard the sound of the door closing shut a minute later.
"Ah, you are already here?" He chuckled. "Seems like somebody cannot wait~"
He turned and froze on his spot, his jaw dropping, dumbfounded. "W-Who the hell are you!?"
Not even in his wildest dreams did he imagine a man entering the room instead of a beautiful woman.
Xie Zi Han sighed. "Too old to be visiting the red-light area actually."
As he talked to the goon, he was simultaneously chatting with his daughter, who seemed to be furious about his absence at the dinner table.
’Sorry Lanlan...I will be back in a jiffy!’
’Where are you anyway?’
He coughed. ’A place which children shouldn’t know about.’
Xie Mulan sent a rolling eyes emoji.
"Hey I am talking to you! Where is the woman?"
The goon didn’t get any answer from him and gruffed. "Fine! I will find her by myself!"
He angrily grunted and passed by Xie Zi Han when the latter grabbed his shoulder. "What’s the hurry, young man? You can have all the fun you want after you answer some of my questions."
His gaze darkened. "Huh? Why should I talk to an old, sad, lonely man? Go find someone else!"
Ouch! Hey! I am not a sad, lonely man and definitely not old!
The goon tried to shrug off his hold but Xie Zi Han’s grip was so tight that he could hardly move.
He smiled. "There is no hurry, young man. I just want you to answer a couple of questions, that’s all."
He scoffed. "I don’t even know you. Why should I answer you!?"
"You will answer me if you don’t want your face smashed in by my punches."
The thug threw him an incredulous look. He almost wanted to laugh out but considering how he was not able to shake his grip off his shoulder yet, he was beginning to think otherwise. That and the predatory smile on his lips gave him the chills.
"Look..." he nervously laughed, "There is no need to get violent here. I remember every penny I take and I haven’t taken any money from you."
"This is not about money. I want to get information about a man you recently met here."
He blinked. "Who?"
"A man who had a tattoo on the back of his neck - She."
His eyes widened.
"You were seen talking to him and exchanging some information. I want to know who that man is, what you talked about with him and every single detail about him from A to Z. I will beat you up if you miss even a small stroke of any letter."
"W-Who are you? Don’t tell me you are a cop-"
"It’s of no use consequence to you as to who I am. I just need answers about She."
The goon gulped.
"So start talking. How do you know him?"
"L-Look, I think you have gotten hold of the wrong guy here. I don’t know what you are talking about-"
The smile on Xie Zi Han’s lips grew even more sinister and cold. "I don’t like to give second chances. Once upon a time, I was notorious for being the most merciless man, precisely because I didn’t tolerate shit excuses."
The thug gasped as a flash of excruciating pain jolted in his shoulder, threatening to break his collarbone.
"Try and understand me! Y-You seem to be in the same business as us...We are not supposed to gossip and rattle. It affects our reputation, does it not?"
Xie Zi Han chuckled. "What is the use of that reputation if you won’t even be alive to celebrate it?"
His expression paled.
"T-They will come after me and kill me!"
"So you prefer losing your life now?" He raised his brow lazily.
He shuddered.
"Look, I know you don’t have anything to do with that gang. So I don’t have any enmity against you. But I need some answers and you are my best bet right now. If you answer my questions truthfully, I will take care of your protection. That gang won’t be able to reach you."
The thug was forced to weigh his options.
"Don’t even try to fake answer me and then tattle-tale that gang about this conversation. You think you will be safe if you show yourself as loyal?" He laughed merrily. "Don’t kid yourself. They will come after me for sure, but you will be the first dead body they will step on to get to me. You would have already become a liability to them by then."
At that point, his soul left his body. He bit his lip hard, scratching his neck in nervousness.
"...You promise to keep me safe?"
"Until you keep your mouth shut about me and forget that this conversation ever happened."
The thug exhaled a heavy breath. "It was the first time I met him. I just happened to hear him talking on the phone."
"What was it about?"
"It was about getting some fat chunk of cash. Money wasn’t the problem but it seems like logistics were. So I just casually asked him about it because I wanted money."
"In exchange for what?"
"Getting him a woman."
"Huh? Woman? Wait, human trafficking gangs don’t work like that."
"This is not about trafficking that woman to some other country."
"So?"
"At first, he was too closed off to answer my questions. But I somehow convinced him. I couldn’t just bring any random woman to him and then get lashed out for some half-assed job, right? It was then he said that he needed a woman to warm a rich man’s bed."
Huh?
Xie Zi Han got more confused, nevertheless he continued. "Which rich man?"
He averted his eyes. "I am not so sure..."
"But you do know something."
He cleared his throat. "When our conversation ended, that other man left all happily. I saw him on the phone again and just out of curiosity...I tried to listen in."
"You got to know the name?"
"That’s why I said I am not sure. It was a little loud at Huayuan then and I was barely able to make out his words. I couldn’t be too close to him and expose myself. But I did hear him utter somebody’s last name along the lines of Zhuo...? Or Hou? I am not clear which one, but it was one of those two."
