Chapter 337: Huayuan (7)

The stage lights dimmed, casting a sultry golden aura across the arena as Yong stepped onto the platform. Her outfit was an exquisite fusion of Arabic and traditional Chinese design with a shimmering ensemble of emerald and gold fabrics that clung to her form. A delicate, slightly transparent veil draped over her face under the flickering lanterns, holding an enigmatic smile on her lips.

The music began, a hypnotic blend of melodious flutes and drums. Yong tiptoed and moved with a graceful fluidity. Her arms arched like branches swaying in the breeze. The embroidery hanging off her outfit swayed and sparkled with every turn, creating a mesmerizing cascade of light and shadow that seemed to dance alongside her.

"She is Yong," Jia whispered. "So she was still in Huayuan."

"Aren’t we lucky?" He smiled. "Now, we just have to pay her a little visit after her dance performance."

As her bare feet glided across the stage, the cheers grew louder and frenzier. The transparent mask on her face added an air of mystery as she let out a melodious chuckle. Each step, spin and pause was a symphony of elegance, imbued with a touch of sensuality that left the crowd breathless. As the beats of music swelled, so did the pace of her steps. Yong finished with a dramatic spin, her veil fluttering and settling perfectly.

The crowd erupted into applause and whistles roared through the air. Yong gave an unforgettable performance that marked the beginning of Huayuan’s annual martial arts festival. At the end, Yong slightly bowed and left after which, the emcee took charge.

"Welcome to our one and only and the most awaited martial arts festival!"

The crowd erupted into another roar of applause. But Jia had no interest in watching the festival unfold. Her gaze solely focused on the departing Yong.

"Let’s go. We cannot lose her."

"Always behind you, Spicy~"

Making their way through the crowd, Jia hurried to catch hold of Yong before she lost sight of her. From a distance, she caught her entering an alley and she quickened her pace. When they reached, Yong had just exited, taking a left turn and she further sped up.

Mingshen said, "I will take that turn. Looks like a shortcut."

"Okay."

She agreed to divide and conquer. They separated ways and Jia ramped up her speed. When Yong exited the second alley, she took a right turn next, entering a second street market that was parallel to the first one.

Where is she going...?

Did she realize that I am following her?

Though the crowd gave Jia a good cover, Yong was not to be underestimated. She almost felt dizzy, navigating through Huayuan’s zig zag interconnected alleys.

Jia suddenly slowed down, an odd but familiar feeling gripping her.

What was I trying to remember...?

It was just for a fraction of a second but Jia’s temporary stupor made her lose sight of Yong. When she looked back again, she realized she couldn’t see Yong anywhere.

Ah shit!!

Jia now burst into full speed, apologizing for bumping into passers by. She took one of the many turns, trying her best to catch even her silhouette if possible. But Yong was nowhere to be seen.

She took a sharp right turn and crashed into a man, who caught her in time.

"Woah, woah!" Mingshen’s eyes widened.

"Mingshen?" Jia was momentarily lost but quickly gained her momentum back.

"Did you see Yong anywhere?"

"Nope. Alas, it wasn’t a shortcut," he pouted. "I don’t know how people find their way here. What happened to you? Weren’t you following her?" he blinked.

Jia cursed herself. "I got dazed out for a moment and lost sight of her. I don’t know where she disappeared to. Ugh!"

She combed her hair in frustration.

"Well, I don’t know where she has disappeared to but we sure are back to the plaza."

"What?"

Jia took a look at her right, recognizing the familiar stage where Yong had danced until a few minutes ago. She stared at the plaza for a long moment.

Mingshen was puzzled. "Why are you staring like that?"

"Ah..." she said, "Now I get why it felt so familiar."

"What felt familiar?"

She looked up at him. "Let’s find Yong first."

"Beautiful brother! Let me take you to a super cool place!" Danya brightened.

"Super cool?" He blinked at her.

"Yes. The best view to watch the festival is from that building there," she pointed at the tallest and more traditionally built buildings with sophisticated balconies.

"Th-That’s true..."

"So let’s go there!"

"B-But I have to find s-sis and Boss..." he anxiously hunched to her level with a stressed countenance.

"Don’t worry, beautiful brother! It will be easy to find them in this crowd from above, right?" She chirped.

Bojing beamed. "Oh yes! That’s a g-good idea."

Holding his hand tighter, she merrily made her way to the building. They climbed up the stairs and as Bojing looked around, he felt as if stepped into some private club. He curiously studied the customers casually strolling around the lobby or what seemed like a lounge area. It felt like he was in some ancient Chinese civilization.

"Oh wait here beautiful brother. I will bring Mom here too. Then we all will enjoy the festival together!" She laughed. "Also, she would love to meet you again," she sincerely nodded.

Danya hopped away with Bojing standing frozen.

"Y-you are leaving me behind!?" He cried. "I don’t w-want to be alone..." he trembled.

"Just stay right there beautiful brother because I will be right back!" Her voice joyfully echoed.

Bojing gulped. He turned around, pressing his fingers against each other, nervous and hesitant. As he faced outside the balcony to the plaza side, watching the festivities going on in full swing - he noticed a shadow creeping behind him.

Bojing paled and his heart rate sped in his chest.

H-He or she is just passing by, right?

But the shadow remained still behind him. Tears brimmed in his eyes.

Is D-Danya not back yet?

He saw the shadow’s arm move closer towards him and he instinctively shut his eyes hard.

But as opposed to some violent confrontation he seemingly had imagined all in his mind, he only felt a poke upon his shoulder.

"Senior Lu?"
