The Devil Doctor's Spicy Love -
Chapter 276: Roulette (1)
Chapter 276: Roulette (1)
Jia stormed away in long strides after exiting the shooting arena as she made up her mind to leave the private club once and for all. Her face was heated and embarrassed after what had just happened.
"You are an idiot! And this time, I definitely wasn’t seduced!" Her gaze darkened.
Mingshen, who was casually keeping up with her pace with his hands in his pockets, chuckled. "I know your heart, Spicy. Don’t lie to yourself. You were craving for the second kiss~"
She turned her head and glared back at him. "This day is over!"
"Not yet. I still haven’t taken you to the casino."
Her expression twisted. "I don’t care. I don’t gamble in the first place."
"That’s why it’s time to spice up that boring part of your personality~"
"..."
He took her arm and dragged her to the casino anyway.
"It’s my birthday!"
"And I won the race. Losers should stay quiet," he sneered.
The casino inside The Zenith’s Lounge exuded an air of exclusive luxury with soft golden lighting casting a warm glow across the room. Polished marble floors reflected the dazzling chandeliers hanging from the high ceilings, yet a tinge of darkness lurked.
On one side, Jia heard the hum of conversations blending with the quiet clinking of glasses. On the other side, the subtle shuffle of cards created a rhythm of tension and anticipation. She felt the nail-biting stillness in the atmosphere.
Dark wood tables were arranged across the floor where impeccably dressed attendants guided the guests through games of chance. Her nostrils twitched with the scent of expensive cigars mixing with top quality liquor being served by the staff.
Jia felt like a country bumpkin in this whole setup while Mingshen blended right in as if it was the most natural thing in the world. Eyes peeked at them, especially at Jia, studying and scrutinizing her.
"I want to leave," she tugged at his coat and whispered urgently.
"I want to play."
"Who cares!?"
"Me."
They noticed a little crowd that was formed at a faraway distance and Mingshen asked a passing by attendant, "What is happening there?"
"Oh that’s the Roulette area," he respectfully said, "One participant is on a winning streak so curious people have followed."
"Hahaha, I won again!"
Jia’s ears buzzed with the loud voice.
It sounds familiar...
Mingshen grinned at Jia. "How about we test our luck?"
She looked at him, speechless.
How can he act so indifferent after the two-!?
As they reached the place, the crowd immediately made way for Mingshen, recognizing him. Jia was surprised to see the faces she had already seen before.
The man celebrating his victory was Fei Nanyou, Hou Tengqi’s good friend. He was playing against three other people, one of whom Jia recognized once again.
The man in the wheelchair - Zhuo Syaoran.
"Hah! The goddess of luck is shining so brightly on me today~" Fei Nanyou smirked. "How many times have you lost now, Syaoran? Don’t feel bad okay~"
He smiled politely. "I don’t."
He paused and feeling a strong gaze at him, he slightly glanced at the side. He blinked once and a small O formed on his lips.
Fei Nanyou followed his gaze and his expression immediately darkened.
"You...Dr. Yang Mingshen. You have the nerve to show your face after what your employee did with Tengqi and Meng Rin! And even bail him out!"
Jia was expecting a disdainful comeback from Mingshen but he was awfully silent. Instead of a rebuttal, she noticed him staring at Zhuo Syaoran with a strange emotion.
Fei Nanyou gritted his teeth. "And now you are blatantly ignoring me too."
Mingshen tore his gaze away from him, directing that same cold gaze at Fei Nanyou.
"Strange. Your so-called best friend is in the hospital and you have the nerve to enjoy your time at a casino? Is this hypocrisy I am smelling?" He smiled.
His brow twitched hard while some people in the crowd silently chuckled.
"You-"
"Nice to meet you again, Dr. Yang. Miss. Song," Zhuo Syaoran said, cutting off Fei Nanyou’s violent burst of anger.
Mingshen didn’t reply while Jia smiled back. "Same here."
"I must say..." he blinked. "I didn’t think a private club was to your taste."
"It is not but somebody..." her deadly glare silently fell on Mingshen, "thought it was a good idea to have a change in pace."
Zhuo Syaoran glanced at Mingshen. "I see you are very close."
"..."
The kisses made their way to her mind even though she was trying to shut them out with all her will.
I don’t want to be that close!
Fei Nanyou erupted again. "You are that cop, right? I remember you now! Even you are colluding with this doctor! It was an open and shut case, yet that bastard got released on bail! How?"
Jia’s eyes narrowed. "It was the court’s order, not mine. Plus, the investigation is still ongoing, Mr. Fei."
He was dumbfounded. "What investigation do you even need in this? We all saw what happened!"
"You saw the situation after you opened the door. The before part might be a totally different story and it’s a cop’s job to investigate from all angles."
"You are just making up an angle because of Yang Mingshen! He hates Tengqi so you are colluding with him."
The pleasant atmosphere was quickly turning heated and confrontational.
"Sixteen."
Jia looked at Zhuo Syaoran, who calmly stated his number.
"I place my bet on the number sixteen."
He then looked at Jia and politely asked, "Would you like to join, Miss. Song?"
"Syaoran, you don’t care about Tengqi at all? Your families have always been so close!" Fei Nanyou was flabbergasted at his indifference.
"Tengqi is being taken care of just fine. We must focus on our present actions which right now I believe is playing roulette. Isn’t it why we are all here?"
He grimaced.
"So," Zhuo Syaoran looked back at Jia with a smile and asked again, "Care to join Miss. Song?"
