The Devil Doctor's Spicy Love -
Chapter 269: The devil’s demand
Chapter 269: The devil’s demand
"I...never thought that way! The dress was truly bold and uncomfortable for me!"
Jia felt her patience thinning out. Everytime Mingshen opened his mouth to speak, it was as if he was using some magic to read the unspoken depths of her heart. It was an intrusive thought that even she didn’t know if it came to her mind, but now that she contemplated...
She realized that the concern of her weight had struck her a few times. She brushed it away thinking that exercise would shed it off, but this morning race with Mingshen made her think back yet again.
When was the last time she really exercised?
She shouldn’t have felt so breathless and tired already. She shouldn’t have fallen behind in the race. She shouldn’t have felt as if she was dragging her body to move as opposed to it moving fluidly like always.
Jia used to like exercising as a part of her routine and not because it was necessary for her job description, but she genuinely believed in a fit and healthy mind and body.
Then when she did she started to avoid it...?
The uncomfortable realizations pricked Jia and guilt filled her heart.
How can I be like this? How can I be slacking!?
"You are not slacking."
She jumped in a jolt as his voice broke her reverie. Without her notice, he stood close to her, only a narrow gap separating their chests. His black eyes looked at her with a serene smile but with a little hint of playfulness. They held her gaze as if they knew every little secret she was carrying by herself. Yet as opposed to feeling threatened, she felt like an invisible safety net surrounding her.
"You are not slacking, okay?" Mingshen repeated firmly, slightly tilting his head.
Jia pursed her lips, her gaze still locked in his. She could feel that he had more to say but he rather wouldn’t. Her heart felt inclined to believe him. Mingshen wasn’t the type to lie to keep someone’s heart happy.
I...I am not slacking? She couldn’t help but question herself. S-So I am not getting lazy right...?
It did relieve her from one stress to know that she wasn’t becoming a version of herself she didn’t want out of laziness.
But then it meant that something else was at play which was hampering her daily routine.
Jia slightly averted her eyes, thinking about one possibility that was erupting the fight or flight mode in her. She didn’t want to think about that possibility at all.
At that point, Mingshen smiled. He merrily whistled and said, "Let’s go."
With his hands in the pockets of his loose and comfortable pants, he set out towards an unknown destination.
"Huh?" Jia blinked twice in shock.
She quickly followed him and then matched his walking pace. "What?"
He turned to look at her questioningly. "What?"
"You have more to say," she said suspiciously.
"Is that so?" He raised his brow with amusement.
"Just spit it out."
"I don’t have to if you have realized it yourself right?" He smiled.
Her brow twitched with bitterness. "I don’t know what you are talking about."
"You don’t have to say it out loud. As long as your heart knows it. And as long as your heart knows it, I will too~"
"My heart is not your spy."
"It has been ever since I saved it," he winked. "Your heart has been mine since ages now."
This man...
They walked some more and reached a small food truck where an elderly woman with a kind smile sat across them.
"Oh hello dear. I see you two are done with your morning run. It’s so refreshing to see a young couple having healthy goals, hoho."
Jia was speechless.
Ugh this misunderstanding again and again...!
She quickly waved her hand. "We are not-"
"Absolutely Mam," he brightly shone. "Aren’t we such a perfect couple~?"
The grandma shyly waved at him. "You remind me of my younger days with my husband. We were just like you. He sprained his back unfortunately or else he would have loved to meet you two too."
"Aish, that’s a bummer," he lamented.
"When did you two get married?" She eagerly asked.
Jia - "..."
"Mam, we didn’t-"
"Two years ago," Mingshen cut her off. "It was very romantic, you know~ My Spicy was injured terribly and I happened to save her. Fate pulled its strings. The sparks flew. Since then, we fell in love so deeply that we are inseparable~"
Jia’s face blackened.
The utter lies...
She threw pointed arrows at him like usual which he ignored as usual as well.
"Oh my, that is really so romantic!" She squealed. "You two are made for each other!"
"Thank you, Mam~ On such a good note, can we get two lovely cups of boiled corn please?" He sheepishly grinned.
"Right away dear! Hehe and don’t tell anybody, but I will give you an extra portion~ You are such an eye candy," she blushed a little.
Jia’s jaw dropped.
What the...
Mingshen held two piping hot cups of delicious buttery and slightly spicy boiled corn. He offered one to Jia and sat beside her on a wooden bench at some distance from grandma’s food truck.
Jia scowled. "You were really enjoying it, weren’t you? Fanning the flames of misunderstanding."
He innocently blinked. "What flames? My feelings towards you have always been sincere and pure."
She threw another glare at him. She then stared at the cup of boiled corn and its flavorful smell made her slightly drool. She bit down on one scoop of spoon and her eyes immediately sparkled.
"Mmnn, delicious!"
It was just the right amount of salt, butter and chili powder that made her taste buds tingle with joy. The warmth felt like seeping into her very soul.
"This is so awesome!" her face shone like a child.
Mingshen stared at her with an unreadable expression and a very light smile unknowingly curled his lips.
"So~ time for the loser to accede to the winner’s demands~" he chuckled evilly.
"And here you ruined my lovely experience," her gaze darkened. With a heavy heart, she then asked, "What do you want me to do?"
Mingshen beamed with brilliance. "Spend your entire day with me. Just the two of us. No work and no distraction. That’s what I want. I want you today all for myself~"
