Chapter 267: An invitation for a morning jog
Jia’s head ached terribly as she returned home. She was thinking of ways of getting entry in Huayuan to meet Yong which seemed impossible as of now. But she still had hope through the game of Survival Grounds. She still remembered how Mrs. Lai mentioned that game which eventually led her to the She gathering cult.
I should download that game and check out what it is all about. How the hell does a game bring a middle-aged woman to such a dangerous cult?
Jia thought about Mulan she met today, whose game product it was. She still couldn’t believe that she was so ready to marry Mingshen without a second thought.
A loud grumble escaped from her stomach that signaled the source of her hunger. She was in the mood for some cheese pasta but as soon as that thought crossed her mind, Mingshen’s words hovered in her ears.
You know what cheese and junk food does?
Her face reddened with fury and at the thought that he blamed her as an addict.
"Nope. No outside order tonight. He thinks that I have completely given up on healthy food?"
So Jia wore an apron around her waist and got to work in the kitchen to cook a warm, healthy meal for herself. She was quite satisfied with the end result and had a hearty dinner. She thought about it and didn’t really feel the temptation to eat unhealthy food.
That gave her the assurance she needed.
"This is what I was telling him! I am in complete control of my urges and he thinks that it’s depression? Everybody eats junk food now and then!" She gritted her teeth.
But an idea struck her and she smirked victoriously. She took a picture of the leftover meal she had prepared and sent the photos to a certain devil’s number.
’What will you say now?’
She placed her phone back on the table and snorted.
Cat got the tongue now?
A beep sounded a minute later and she quickly picked her phone.
’Just like one bad thought doesn’t mean you are depressed, one good meal doesn’t mean you are not depressed either. Good that you had a healthy meal tonight but this needs to be consistent, which isn’t in your case."
Jia scowled. She was sure she got Mingshen with that but then again, he was the devil doctor.
’You just conveniently choose to ignore my efforts!’ A fume of fury escaped the top of her head.
He replied. ’I never ignore my patients, especially my Spicy~ And...if you have to call out eating a normal, healthy meal as an effort, then it means that your normal is not so normal anymore, right?’
Jia stared hard at the message and his implication became clearer. She read her own message again she sent to him and shut her eyes in lament. She unconsciously let it out that it was hard for her to carry on with her usual diet.
"I....I didn’t mean it that way! Of course it’s not any effort to eat healthy. This was always my lifestyle!"
She exclaimed that to nobody in particular but still wanted to feel that she was heard. Her fingers slightly shook as she typed back.
’You just read too much into everything.’
’Sometimes, it’s part of my job description.’
Jia grimaced and could imagine Mingshen’s irritating and playful smile curved on his lips.
Another buzz of a ringtone came.
’Just like how I can guess that you are planning to stay up the night on the pretext of working on the case.’
She stiffened. She had indeed thought to stay up the night and investigate Survival Grounds.
She quickly typed back. ’I am not a robot. I know it’s time to sleep. You are the one disturbing it!’
’You are the one who messaged me first to celebrate your victory~’
Jia wanted to throw her phone in the trash.
Ugh! It’s pointless talking to him!
She took a deep breath and thought that she should go to bed. The only way for her fatigue lines below her eyes to disappear was if she would get a proper sleep.
I ate a healthy dinner tonight. Of course I can get a good night’s sleep. That’s what I will do!
—
*DING DING DING*
Jia covered her ears with her palms, her brows tightly furrowing.
*DING DING DING*
Ugh, who is it!?
She pushed away the duvet and checked the time with a yawn. It was six-fifty in the morning. Her eyes slightly widened as she glanced outside the window.
It’s morning already?
It was then that she realized that she actually got a proper sleep last night after months.
*DING DING DING*
And that person is ruining my lovely morning!
Jia stomped her way into the living room and opened the door in a fit of frustration.
"Good morniiiiiiiiiing Spicyyyyyy!"
The bright, shining face of the devil early morning dropped Jia right into hell. She blinked twice, thinking if she was asleep and dreaming. She wanted the solace with the latter thought and began to close the door.
Mingshen jammed his foot in between and grinned. "Spicy, your handsome husband is here. Won’t you greet him good morning?"
"Can I greet you ’rest in peace’ instead?"
"Ah. Your spicy comebacks don’t miss their marks even when you have just woken up from your beauty sleep."
Jia stared at him from head to toe. She was now completely wide awake, questioning the reason behind his arrival at her home, who was dressed in a comfortable tracksuit as if he was out on a morning jog.
"Why...Just why are you here?"
Mingshen carefully looked at her face and smiled. "Seems like Spicy had a good sleep."
That perked her ears right away and she let out a sneer. "Yes. I had a good night’s sleep like any other night. It wasn’t difficult because I am not sick like a certain devil is convinced of."
Mingshen beamed with a golden brilliance. "Perfect. So if you are not sick, then you are definitely in a mood to sweat up for a morning run, right? So go get changed~"
"...Huh?" Jia stared at him, speechless. "Morning run?"
"Yup~"
"With you?"
"Yup~"
"Bye."
She was about to close the door when he chuckled. "Depression makes people lethargic to go out and exercise."
She froze.
"Hmmmmm, does it mean that Spicy is not feeling well, who is already so used to keeping herself fit as a cop?" He pouted.
A vein popped on her forehead, his words successfully triggering her. "Sure, let’s go for a morning run after which I will bury you in the same ground," she said with a seething rage.
Mingshen shyly waved his hand in dismissal. "Like I always say Spicy. Death by your hands is always welcomed~"
